  1. To ride Jo'burg tar roads of course
  2. I reckon getting all three in balance is too hard, so I focus on eating and resting only. Works for me.
  3. That saddens me, as Tullio Campagnolo was a brilliant engineer and innovator of cycling technology. We all use the rear parallelogram derailleurs he designed and after a icy race where he lost time struggling to undo his wheel nuts, he came up with the cam-based quick-release we all used until TA became a new standard (but in some ways a backwards step). Sitting with his mates long afterwards they gave him stick because he struggled to get a cork out of an old bottle of wine. He sketched on a napkin and the next day filed a patent on the "two wings" corkscrew we still use. I was gently musing on Sunday as I could hear the chain on my Dura Ace, that the best ride ever was on early 2000s 10spd Record (no Super Record at the time). Better than Red, better than DA and better that 11spd Super Record on my C59 'Nago.
  4. In a market where products are not really functionally distinguishable, service makes the difference. Here is my story: I bought a Kickr Core during one of the lockdowns and it died yesterday morning. As I had to be in that part of Pretoria yesterday, I dropped the unit off with iKhambi Distribution the local agents at lunchtime, rather than returning it via the dealer. Shortly after 9 o'clock this morning I got a message from them saying they are doing a warrantee replacement and asking where they can drop the new unit off. I could have collected it today, but they are bringing it to me on Friday. If you are in two minds about which trainer to get, I recommend a Kickr for no reason other than the service from the local agents. Thank you Christian and Sibusiso, I appreciate it.
  5. I've ridden the pass in both directions and enjoyed both. And going to Prince Albert from Oudtshoorn is well worth doing. However, if you don't mind tar I enjoyed the road from Prince Albert via Klaarstroom, Meiringspoort, De Rust and the road past de Rustica and the caves back. (Essentially the first 70% of the Swartberg Gran Fondo. Do it either way. From PA over the pass to Calitzdorp is 100km and a wonderful day on the bike. After the pass the road gradually loses altitude towards Kruisrivier and onwards to Calitzdorp, with some nice rolling hills. It is possibly my favourite ride.
  6. I'm seriously cheesed off........and not sure I will be supporting you. The whole year the SPCA has been encouraging us to adopt an animal - so I go there this morning asking for a large turkey and suddenly, there are a million questions..........🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣✌

    The Munga 2023

Does an Everest count as an idiot thing ?
  8. Does anyone have the contact details for the 4iii agents ? The website lists an e-mail address but I'd like a telephone number as my mail has remained unanswered.
  9. No, he got his pills from a pharmacist in Durban.....
  10. Or this : a Revelate feed bag. Straps onto your cockpit and holds a bottle or, if you do not need water, food or tools, etc. https://www.revelatedesigns.com/index.cfm/store.catalog/Cockpit/MountainFeedbag
  11. My girlfriend came back from Cape Town at the end of March with a mild touch of 'flu'. Two days later I developed a sore throat, a day later I tested positive for Covid and on 4 April I was admitted to hospital. Seven weeks later, three of which in ICU, I was finally discharged on 24 May, 18kg lighter. Despite its efficacy, this is not to be recommended as a weight loss program I have not been on a bicycle for close on 3 months, nor have I been able to do any other exercise beyond my sessions with the bio-kinetisist. Hopefully I can start riding by the end of the month.
  12. Go to Giant Jo'burg in Greenside. Best for this sort of thing.
  13. One thing to be aware of. If you ship it to SA from Europe or UK the seller deducts their d8mestic VAT or sales tax from the chat and you pay VAT here. If you use AGS and they ship to their domestic address, you pay VAT there and again here. 20% makes a difference. I only used AGS for stuff that they won't ship to SA.
  14. Meanwhile, in the wild west, playing u/20 rugby against Randfontein or such in the early 80s, laaities would run up and down the touchline shouting, 'moer hom Pa'
  15. Springs, Boksburg, Nigel, Brakpan = Springboknaaipan
  16. I did it rigid, SS some years ago, the worst for me was the death by a thousand cuts as you went into the forest after the climb at 58km. At speed every small imperfection, and there are lots, stones, dips, ruts, roots, etc. were much worse than the wapad or the long descent and just sitting and putting down some power whiles trying to hang onto the bars took a lot.
  17. Yes, without a doubt. Where was this taken ? .
  18. It happened to me on Saturday 1 April, see: I will report it once I am out of Hospital
  19. Just a heads-up of a new to me criminal approach. Cycling up Gordon Avenue, Blairgowrie at around 07h15 on Saturday, a grey Toyota Corolla drove up behind us and wouldn't pass for a block or so and then pulled ahead. I turned right into Standard Drive and just after I turned left at Barkston towards the top of Conrad, I felt a tug as the a guy lifted my gilet and grabbed the phone out of my left rear pocket and jumped into the Toyota which sped off down Barkston towards Randburg. Keep an eye out for a dark grey Corolla with a broken left side mirror driving near you on this very well-used route. Only the driver was visible as it drove beside and behind us with his accomplice obviously hiding down. This was a well practiced routine and had obviously been used before as they knwe exactly where we were heading and also where we would be going slowly and looking out for traffic approaching from the right at the 4-way stop.
  20. I have a new, unused XT 11 speed derailleur and shifter if you are interested. I bought an upgrade kit some time ago and decided to stick with SS. DM me. Ps. I also have a well used matching drivetrain (34 chainring, cassette and chain) I'll throw in for the cost of the shipping
  21. Thanks HdB, Jean at Cycleworld sorted us out chop chop
