  1. Search the Hub, this question is asked regularly, and more often that not one name comes up . Richard Baxter He is not a "guy at Spez". He is not a bike shop employee doing set-ups part time, he is not some Suzelle DIY with a website and a calculator, he does not sell or service bicycles, all he does is professionally fit cyclists to their bicycles, and he does it very, very well. It is no surprise that his name comes up every time someone has a bike fit issue. He is experienced, meticulous, and truly professional. He has earned his kudos. He has two studios, one at Dunkeld Cycles and one in the Fourways area and there is a reason why Cape based Epic frontrunners come up for him to do their set-ups. Call him on 078 295 5037 and go and see him. He will sort you out.
  2. I'll just leave this here: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/158796-wahoo-kickr-owners/page/29/?tab=comments#comment-3809871
  3. In a market where products are not really functionally distinguishable, service makes the difference. Here is my story: Just before the 1st lockdown I ordered two Kickr Cores from CWC and received them sometime in May/June. A few weeks ago one stopped picking up the power sensor and I called Ikhmbi, the agents who are based in Pretoria who said I was welcome to just drop it off with them for evaluation if it was more convenient than returning it via the dealer. This I did and shortly got an email that it is being replaced and asking how they could get it to me. I said I'd pick it up and it was waiting for me at the arranged time. I forgot to take the cassette off or ask for it, but 1 call was all it took to get it back yo me. If you are in two minds about which trainer to get, I recommend a Kickr for no reason other than the service from the local agents.
  4. I don't argue with my daughters on life as a UCT student in the 21st century - they simply know too much about it, and I know nothing first-hand. Similarly, I am going to go with J Wakefield when he comments on the tour.... .
  5. Regrettably, I was precluded from doing so. It was a perfect Catch 22 as one would only use the Canyon load road slim saddle bag if you were a style icon, but if you were a style icon you would not use an underseat bag. So there you have it....
  6. I have black Canyon Tacx ones which I recommend wholeheartedly. A bit pricey, but I bought two and they came with an Ultimate SLX9.
  7. Well, as it is a MiTo, I suppose that settles it and I'll start there...????
  8. Thanks guys, I'll look for paint bull. Good call
  9. After 5 years at UCT my daughter's car has a bit of parking lot rash - nothing serious, a scrape or two and a ding here and there. She now has a professional job and wants her car to look the part. Where in Gauteng does one go ? It won't be an insurance claim, she'll settle the bill herself and doesn't need a fancy, "manufacturer approved" setup. Oh, I always used to borrow her car when down in CT for the Cycletour and put my bicycle on the back seat, hence asking a cycling forum.
  10. Where I came from, it was called padveiligheid.........
  11. As I am not an idiot and he asked about a roadbike, I obviously used 700c. Explain to me how crank "sizes" affect gear ratios.
  12. See below, and go from there. If you can ride up a hill at 18.82kph, you can run a 20. Having said that, I have set climbing PBs on my SS as one is just forced to dig deeper, and sometimes you find something extra there.
  13. Before they moderate and ban me, I want a last word. Corona is a k@k beer and is a complete waste of money. There, I have it off my chest.
  14. I was going to make the same point but a second large shot of Lagavulin chilled me sufficiently to pretend to ignore it
  15. Not everyone. Some okes do the CTCT on a BMX
  16. I can't remember all of the other 25, but there was one about some dude who did the Argust on a BMX last time..
  17. This is true, but you can do two things to get the more "pro" aero position, but ONLY do it if you don't compromise comfort and control. 1) you can remove one or more of the spacers under your stem and put them on top. No need to cut the steerer. 2) you can flip your stem around and have it more neutral and not pointing upwards. Do this in any event.
  18. I'm rooting for Laurel. They is so gorgeous ???? (Or should "they" as a preferred pronoun for an individual take the plural?)
  19. Agreed 99.97%. I believe that if it's not the pinnacle of the sport to win the Olympic gold, that sport shouldn't be in the Olympics. There is not a tennis player or golfer who would prefer a Olympic medal to winning a major. TdeF or Olympic gold ? No question which cyclists would choose. I make an exception for low-key sports where athletes do not make a fortune and where the Olympics are still the dream. Rowing, a sport close to my heart, being one. I'm sure there are more. Ps. Any event where you are are judged, rather than measured or timed, is not a sport and has no place at the Olympics. Sorry rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, figure skating, Eurovision song contest, etc. no matter how hard you work or how entertaining you are, you belong on Britain has got talent not a sporting competition.
  20. Ah, but the 10 speed Record Titanium that followed ????
  21. Buy this :????: Colnago Master Olympic Art Decor *PRICE DROP* | Bike Hub Ok, you don't have to go this old or this collectable, but this is a very lekker bike and everywhere you go people will dof their caps in appreciation. I bit like arriving in your DB5
  22. Roadbikes are not like Mountain bikes and there has not been the same development of technology as has taken place in respect of MTB's - No change in geometry, no increase in suspension travel, no boost hub spacing, no 1x, no changes in freewheel standards, for rim brake bikes no changes in axle standard, nothing as significant as that. Road bike development in the last 20 years has been relatively static in comparison. Road bike manufacturers have pushed disk brakes on the back of "better braking in the wet", but Egon Bernal rode away from everyone in atrocious conditions on a rim brake bike to lead the Giro. Bike have apparently got "more aero" but at the end of the day, the rider is still the greatest impediment to reducing wind resistance. Tires have become wider. In short, road bikes are all still 2x, rim brake bikes still use QR's and are winning Grand Tours and hub spacing has not changed in 2 decades. I can use my 2020 carbon wheels with 25mm tires in a 2001 frame. Everything has remained compatible and everything is inexpensive to fix. The difference on the road between your D/S MTB and any roadbike is the difference between the Wright brothers and the Concord. The difference between a high end, 15 year old roadbike and a new middle middle market road bike at 3 times the cost, is the difference between Castle Lager and Amstel.
