  1. Before I moved to jozi they were. my LBS,although pricey at times the service was always top notch!!! Went back there in december while on holiday guys were still just as welcoming and interested to hear hw things were going and got a few hundreds rands off some new giros for my feet. Two thumbs up for them!
  2. Is this what you referring to? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/taya-deca-101-chain-10-speed there's a Taya one going for R199,but that's for a SS.
  3. That's not bad at all will take a look at it! thanks
  4. Did not break where I joined it all on completely new links no where near the previous breaks. have already got two quik links from the previous breaks, probably time for a new chain!
  5. purchased and had installed a new XT chain about 3 months ago. in that time the chain has broken 3 times already!!! Most of the time when pulling away from a stand still. I am cautious with my gear selection so as not to put to much strain on it the chain up till this evening has done probably 2800km. Why is this happening? Anyone had this problem? Is there an alternate chain I can use? any advice?
  6. I use to have a few gels during a race, then saw to many guys getting sick from them while riding! I now carry 1 for emergencys, and find you can't go wrong with peunut butter with some honey to moisen it a bit! Two or 3 slice during a race mixed with a bannana and jungle bar gives you plenty energy to complete a race!
  7. Anything under 30km bottle on bike, bike tool, leavers taped under seat with emergency tube and rest in pockets.over that you can't go wrong with a good camelback that's strapped on properly, you don't even know its there...and never forget electrical tape is your best friend!!!
  8. I Road suikerbos yesterday for the first time, amazing ride.a group of riders road in while we waited for 7am,they came from edenvale,I'm next door in bedfordview...what would be the recommended route from that area?
  9. My first 8 months of mtb I rode flats! Eventually got the bug to swithch to cleats! Had a few falls on the trail at low speed forgetting to unclip and even infront of all the other riders at the coffee shop!...however within a few rides that discipated and now a few years on I unconciously unclip even during high speed crashes, except for those few knarley exceptions!...had some bad ones! But never considerd going back to flats!
  10. Rear derailer cost me R745 in the end. I did the change over myself. As previously mentioned there workshops aren't to great. Will commend bedfordview branch though. Have never been unhappy with there service!
  11. @shifter...I didn't really have to bargain the first few times, merely asked for a better price and got it! As for ripping off I disagree,I walked into tony impey last week, they quoted me R1100 for a new XT derailer...walked into cajees greeted and asked what price they could get the same part for and was told plus minus R700 but wud have to call suppliers! So really I dnt feel very ripped off.
  12. Cajees aint a bad shop to go to! Just stick to a few rules! The guys their are salesman and not cyclists! Don't use their workshop! But when you want something and you know what you want! Go their and youl get the best price! Just say cwc has it at Xyz price and see how quik the price drops!
  13. If there was an mtb route for it! I'd definitley go witht that! Chances are tho a lot of the normal mtb routes go through private land and won't be accesible...so looking to prob do this trip on the road.
  14. Fellow hubbers In the coming new year I'd like to ride frm jozi to durban with a couple friends. I want to do this without any support vehicle and to carry all that's needed on our backs. Would like advice on: Route? Places to stay? Or shud we camp? How many days to complete it? And do it on mtbs or road? Any tips and other advice please!?
  15. http://www.kman.co.za/products/lights/cycling-lights/ Bought a 1600 lumen from these guys last night, was extremely happy with it! Riding on the low setting was ample light for last nights course.and very light on the pocket! Def recommend them.
  16. Thanks will look into it! I can do most of the basic stuff fairly well already, and can most definitely strip a bike down, its putting every piece back together to work harmoniously with each that I want to master!!
  17. Sounds good! Be grateful if you could keep those of us interested updated on this mysterious persons intentions if or when ever he/she decides to start running a course.
  18. Would like recommendations on courses where I and some friends can learn to fully strip and rebuild our bikes properly and basically be self reliant. I'm in the JHB area. Thanks any adice would be great as the net and youtube can only help so much.
  19. Giba Gorge-near pinetown Durban. Gravity dice and the free ride trail there are awesome .(don't need to be minaar to ride it) Almost all there trails are really fast and have great flow!
  20. Did a few enduros back when I was in durban! Some of the best racing to be had on a bike...when and where are ther races in jozi? And where can I enter?
