  1. Always scream at the taxi pulled over to the side of the road to let him know you passing him on the right and so as not to take you out. Passing them on the left to risky with passengers erratically disembarking. I love my 1600lumen light though most motorists do not I figured by the amount I get flashed at ( would rather still be seen and avoided ) been mistaken for a motorbike is always cool Commuting on the MTB is awesome specially when theres single track next to the road and every little bump becomes a jump. Pedestrians never move In the direction you expect Taxi drivers are generally cool guys,(but I still *** when I hear one coming) racing and beaten cars between traffic lights is great fun!!! As hard as it is some mornings to get up and on the bike soon as im clipped in im happy no matter what the weather!
  2. Whats the story with this guys? I use beryl street as training quite often and see they've just cut the grass there.Plenty of space to put in both a BMX and dirt jump tracks.Even possibly I nice flowing single track line with some jumps and other obstacles to improve skills. Iv got time on my hands over the next month. anything actually going to happen?
  3. Tough descion you have there. I had the same problem with my reba about 3 months ago, picked up some scratches so sent it in for a service and new seals etc, when it came back it wasn't holding air anymore.apparantly the old seals had deformed to hold the air. I couldve used it for another year before it failed on the old seals. New stanchions were quoted. At R3600. My suggestion would be ride it till you can't anymore or just buy a new fork.
  4. I'm probably only still alive today casue I wear a so called flimzy helmet.everyone to their own whether you wear one or not.but it sure as hell makes a difference, and I will not ride without one.
  5. That sounds good! I'm in! PM sent.
  6. I will follow this thread,am definitley keen to join if this happens. See most guys are in bedfordview, possibly start a whattsapp group?
  7. If you need any after sale service on your Ghost bikes I'd advise going to 'Ballistic cycles' they are also a dealer.search there details on google...I normally use my local LBS but when its ghost specific things I use them and have always had great service.
  8. Layer as much as possible, but know how much you can carry If some need to come off. I invested a bit more in warmers and got giordana(extremely happy) tried those and first accent and there's no comparison! Anatomic thermal socks For longer rides I will wear a 2nd skin or thermal, cycling jersey and a jacket that's wind proof. Buff is a must have!!! Asides from the obvious reasons, breathing in warm air through the buff is a luxury in the cold. Last of all my early morning training around 4am to 6.30am.I wear a 1.5mm westuit top.its is amazingly warm and wind proof! Also helps me burn the extra fat I got atm.you sweat profuseley and your bib will be soaked(Do not ride with this during the day though you will over heat) Maybe that can help
  9. I may be keen to join you, what would your plan be?
  10. Just my thoughts of an enjoyable ride...I would take the cowies hill road into westville, from there get onto jan hofmeyer road, and work your way down to the M13 rockdale interchange, take essex terrace and travel parralel to the M13,yo can then join onto the M13 for about 1.5km.(There is a large shoulder)..from there I would ride down through sparks road(busy area so be cauios).from here you can go over the ridge and straight dowm towards the beach ot turn left onto brickfield and travel down to umgeni road and from there head towards the beach front....I'd recommend the same route back....safest,most direct route I can think of.good luck... P.S hope my directions make sense.
  11. As accustomed as a lot of us have become to it...still cannot believe that after leaving your bike(assumed target) that they are so hell beant on physical violence aswell...will avoid that hill and stick to busy roads as I usually do...hope your bike was insured...and I can't promise anything but if I happen to be in the area with time on my hands ill have a look.
  12. Hey patrick Really sorry to hear about your bike, really is horrible.hope you are not to badly beat up.My concern Is I stay in bedfordview and ride through kensington daily and often up onto the ridge for hill training...any advice or tips you can give me on what the guys looked like(realise this may be a dumb Q) or how they approched you, what time of day it was? Assuming you were going up hill and so travelling at a slow speed...I will save the pic of your bike and keep an eye out,may also be worth stopping by any pawn shops etc on jules street and see if its found its way there.Hope you recover soon. And sorry once again.
  13. Thanks EdEdEd will give hima shout! Glad you took a minute break from the 26 vs 29 thread to reply! Work has been extremely unproductive over the last week due to pics youv been posting! ( Not that I'm complaining)
  14. Hey guys/gals Heading back to my home town durban this weekend for 8 days.Hoping there are some group rides during the week or possibly the weekend... or any hubbers willing to let me join them for a solid ride? Also any events worth doing in durban over the weekend of the 7/8th june?
  15. Go out and ride that distance a few times, make sure you doing a reasonable amount of ascending.and then judge how you feel. Even better yest go and train for a 60km event and then the 45km will be a breeze.
  16. Iv been riding an RT lector 7400 for almost a year now, hate the elixirs that come with it.but the frame itself I have had no issues with and I'm loving it!
  17. Just cause everyones having a blast at it... For me my last 4 years in durban were spent spearfishing, almost always a shore dive.so swimming out past and through some moerse surf, fighting with currents, always trying to be alert, and at the same time keep my heart rate as low as possible so as to have a mong down time.when I would come out after a 3 or 4 hour dive I would be mentailly and physially exhausted and on a few occasions happy to be alive!
  18. My local spot when I stayed in durban, try and ride all the trails mix it up as you go along, guys are right about the snakes aswell,iv had a black mamba go straight over my front wheel there before...the freeride trail is pretty awesome aswell, just make sure you got company with you as some sections are knarley.
  19. hey Fabs I certainly did not predict the future! I see what you mean by the time stamp posted. On my side it shows I posted at just after 2am on the Saturday morning. Which is even earlier! iv been advised that I have the wrong time zone set to my account. But this is irrelevant none the less. I have been informed by a marshal for cycle lab that on a Saturday the club rides are in the cradle. I am not disputing that. However as mentioned before anyone can don the jerseys and take to the road on a non official club ride. Which I presume now is the case, it is then unfortunate that they chose to wear their club jerseys while doing this! I certainly hope that this riding is not in any clubs rules, but their are always those who break them. Their are other eyewitnesses to riders donning the lab jersey and running reds that morning.so I think that settles that problem. hope all enjoy the holiday tomorrow and are able to get some time in the saddle!!
  20. Hello Fabs Indeed it may be a group of guys with fake jerseys. However... The jerseys in question if I remember correctly were white and blue, they had the Toyota and cycle lab logo's (names) on the jerseys. Not sure how that is the time you have of my original posting as the incident happened at about 08:45am on Saturday morning. Probably about 15 of the guys had the cycle lab jerseys on. And there was 1 guy on a mtb with them if that makes the group more distinguishable. Main reason I posted in the first place as it is not the first time iv heard of people riding under the clubs name commit the above mentioned offense...Its a problem when im sitting at the traffic light while they go through it and I can see the frustration in the drivers body language and faces next to me, That becomes a problem for other riders later as those drivers who have watched cyclists disobey rules will be less willing to give us 1.5 metres passing space or more patient with us etc. As mentioned in previous posts it just creates a more dangerous riding environment for all of us. hope I haven't offended you and that you and your fellow members can solve any problems you may have within this topic and avoid things like this in future if it is in question your club members I witnessed.
  21. Trying to stir me up hey! lol..... I was already slowing down to come to a stop when the group came past me and went through the robot. they then had a 300m lead on me when I got going again and was still able to catch the tail end of the group by the time we almost summited, so not to sour! specially considering they were all on road bikes and I was on a dual sus 26'!
  22. Definitely cyclelab unless other guys are all buying the Toyota cyclelab jerseys and riding with them all at once. Was the long downhill coming down from woodmead area and up past kayalami.am new to jozi so forgive my ill knowledge of road names.
  23. Riding passed waterfall estate on my way up to the kyalami gates I got passed by a group of maybe 20 cyclelab riders,on reaching the 1st robot all the leaders went straight through taking the whole group with them.I asked (made a statement) one of the last guys 'you guys are going straight through a red robot'!? I got a blank stare back. Cannot believe how blatant this is! With all the effort going on for cyclists rights and to be noticed and respected on the roads its frustrating seeing this done out in the open with no care and in club kit! Senior members of the club should be addressing this! Sorry to those sick of hearing the same thing but had to say something.
