  1. Is it just me is is it every time I want to look at points that there's always a message points not yet calculated, and this is for events two weeks ago? While I know I'm reaching my goals every week, my wife is bitching because she cant see where she is relative to her goals
  2. Me, but I'll be sitting with my fat ass among the backmarkers with my very noisy knobblies. It's going to be warm
  3. Thanks Bugger - I only entered today (as a PPA member). Silly me.
  4. Has anyone managed to confirm whether Sunday's Sportif can change your seeding (or not), given that race numbers and groups have already been allocated this week?
  5. So, how did she do?
  6. Just to confirm please, we can still collect numbers tomorrow morning? The SMS I got only referred to yesterday and today’s collection.
  7. Anyone having issues adding devices to the app? I need to link PolarFlow but it’s been giving me errors the whole week. Even doing it via the website doesn’t work.
  8. I thought it was bloody well organized. Well done Paarl Rotary
  9. I’m DM.
  10. Collected my number a few minutes ago. Start time on race number is 75 minutes earlier than the start time on the envelope... So which is the correct time?
  11. Incentive enough to not screw things up
  12. I had stuff in my Amazon Cart, so just added these. Relatively cheap but look pretty solid and quite large. So will see how it goes before I fork out loads of dosh. Now for some shoes.

  14. Hiya It's the noob again. In my other thread regarding going with wider bars, there was a response to my getting back into MTB after a long layoff, that my best upgrade (if I hadn't already done so) would be going flats. I generally now ride hybrids (flats on side, clips the others) I found this interesting in that my entire previous cycling experience I had gone clipless. Two things made me recall the discussion: The Dirtopia ride and run last weekend had me coming off because I couldn't unclip fast enough (stupid me). In addition I was getting peed off with my pedals, because when I wanted to ride on the flats, the SPD side kept getting in the way and it's a mission to sort it out without looking down. The other thing is I'm going to be doing Katjia's workshops as a refresher. Only flats allowed. I know a lot of things are personal preference and there are no rules, and opinions may be divided on what would be best, but what are peoples thoughts? When I do do some road rides (sies) I will definitely use clipless, but my MTB is pretty much spending my time around the Tygerberg rides and equivalent. Fire away. Any input is always appreciated.

  16. Thank you. Perfect
  17. It’s a known fact that grey and pink go really well together.
  18. Morning all. I'm a newcomer to the Tygerberg MTB Club, and looking forward to maybe meeting some of you. I was wondering if anyone has KML / KMZ files of the various routes open to members (or know where to find them)? Or perhaps GPX files which I can convert? I know there is a map on the website, but I like to interact with the maps. Many thanks
  19. They aren't https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/vitality/gym-devices-fitness It's worth noting that Vitality is dropping support for TomTom (for new signups only)
  20. Thanks for the input everyone. Can anyone recommend a cardiologist I can go to in the Cape Town CBD or Table View areas, and how much a Max HR test is likely to cost?
  21. I'm getting back into cycling but have been starting to go to gym to do some cardio. I've been inactive for some time because of the need for bilateral THR. I'm 42 and the (discredited it seems) max heart rate for me is 178. Now, the last couple of times I've been at spinning classes, my average HR has been around 156, with my max around 181. Even at 181 it doesn't feel like i'm going to fall over and die. At the end of the session I feel tired, but good. Now several articles suggest not exceeding 85% Max HR for any length of time, with statement like it hurts your recovery. But if i stick to less than 85% sometimes I feel I haven't done anything worthwhile. Should I be worried and tone it down? Get to a doc to see what my real max HR is? My resting HR is about 70-75 at the moment FWIW. Thanks!
  22. Hi Im 42. The reason for the Avascular Necrosis is not clear, but it seems a common factor is scuba diving. Lots of it. After the first THR I could walk pain free in that leg for ages, and I'm sure the bike would have been the same. I'm hoping the second one will be as successfull The surgeon has no problems with cycling per se, in fact advises it as regards exercise, but obviously the main concern, especially on a mountain bike, is the risk of a fall. I really don't know how impact resistant these replacements are. Anyway, as regards recovery, my plan is to start gentle spin classes in January, and hopefully climb back on an actual bike around May time frame. Thanks for the discussion
  23. I've recently undergone the second of two total hip replacements, following Avascular Necrosis. Now, prior to the initial effects of the AN, I was doing about 100km/w on the bike and about 3 hours spin classes. This was 5 years ago. I would like to hear from others who are now happily ensconced back in the saddle, after a single (or double THR). Now I'm not expecting things to happen in the blink of an eye, but I'd appreciate some advice on this. Many thanks.
