  1. Good point. I want it to look right.. But really it's because I just upgraded my fork from 100mm to 120mm and the ride difference is incredible and also what I can do now on tech terrain. But it just doesn't feel right as it did before the overall fit. Also because I have relatively wide shoulders for my height (I am more stocky than tall 'n thin) and want to get wider bars. That means a shorter stem usually. I think wider bars will benefit my ride a lot and I'd feel more comfortable too. And finally because I have test ridden a 27.5 and the bike felt so much more nimble. The 29er to me almost feels like it is made for a tall person. I am probably wrong there but this is personal I guess. I just want the bike to feel as best as it can for my body shape before looking at another bike.
  2. Thanks for the advice guys. So I am experimenting with my saddle height and will get it right. I will also move the saddle back a bit. For the stack height I can't see how it can be lowered and if I can't get the bike right for me I will sell it and get a 27.5- I've upgraded this bike quite a bit so don't wanna let it go just yet. As for the longer stem, I was actually thinking of a shorter stem. Maybe I should keep the stem as is and put the saddle back- and perhaps try wider bars? I do think I have short legs relatively actually, I have a stocky muscular build not a thin roadie build with long legs
  3. Ok here are the pics- damn hard to take but there- I have flipped the stem. Bar is flat. No spacers. I should mention that I recently upgraded the fork from 100mm to 120mm. I was thinking 27.5 or a Medium 29er but reading all the above I am not so sure. My saddle is comfy for me as it is now. I could source a shorter crank its now 175mm but I could source maybe 170mm but they seem hard to find? Also as Myles said I am seriously thinking of a shorter stem which would slightly lower the stem height, paired with wider bars and as Myles said not a riser bar. Never done a bike fit. Maybe I should.
  4. Interesting.. never thought my frame was too small for me.. but maybe it is. I'll send the pic etc later on, I'll try that out....
  5. When I look at other bikes I see the saddle is higher than the stem/bar. On my bike the saddle is a bit lower. Maybe I have short legs as I don't think the saddle can go higher comfortably. I'm 5'8 and my bike is a Small 29er frame. Maybe it is the bike model or geometry. My stem is slightly angled up I could flip it- it has no spacers currently and the bar is the std Silverback flat bar with no rise. Why is my saddle so low in comparison to others? Also on a mtb is one not so supposed to sit more upright on the trail? Which would mean a higher stem/bar or is this not so. I was thinking of going shorter stem 45mm or 55mm (its now 80mm) and wider bars 740mm- 780mm (up from 700mm) thinking I'd get more control and a zero stem angle but then it usually means a riser bar and that means my saddle will be lower than the stem/bar.......
  6. I used ESI normal ones awesome. Then bought Luv which were cheap and delivery was fast. But they are a bit thinner it seems than ESI and can maybe twist a bit. I wanted the black Much Luv and they never have stock for months now. A few emails to them asking when stock is coming have been ignored. Will never buy from them again- mainly due to their lack of response which I see as a bad attitude and I don't wish to support that. Back to ESI from now on.....they are worth the money.
  7. My alu hardtail has an alu seatpost 31.6mm I put in a carbon seatpost FSA, 27.2mm, and used a plastic shim. That way it prevents merging of the alu frame and carbon seatpost. The thinner diameter carbon seatpost definitely does absorb trail vibrations I find. Just my experience. I don't do heavy riding but am scared the seatpost can break so I do check it for stress marks and cracks and haven't found any. For now it seems to work. If carbon bikes come with carbon seatposts then they must be safe and reliable, or not? Am actually thinking of taking off the carbon seatpost and putting on a dropper post which would make things interesting.
  8. I went to 6 diff shops yesterday and couldn't find any stock of the adidas s stealth sole mtb shoe for flat pedals. that included the adidas store in sandton. i also emailed adidas who said not all their products are always available online. just can't find a pair..
  9. this worked for me with a rocket ron that would't seal last week. first time i gone tubeless and the racing ralph sealed fine but not the rr. checked everything many times. then added more sealant and let it lie totally flat on one side overnight. then added more sealant and let it lie flat overnight again on the other side. finally it sealed.
  10. I need to order more but the black and green are outta stock. I slide them on easy with a bit of olive oil.. organic and slides on quick easy and then dries off overnight.
  11. I ordered a pair this week after seeing them on the Hub. They got couriered to me today. Awesome service. Awesome price. They are still in the packet but look good and thick enough and come with firm looking rubberish end caps (not plastic flimsy junk) which are colour coded to the grips (green in my case) which I do like. Very happy chappie here.
  12. oh yeh the access road had a few ruts.....the dirt roads inside Dikhololo are very sandy in parts so make sure your tyres can handle lots of sand.. and like others said lots of thorns on the single tracks/animal paths.. i don't run tubeless and had a few punctures.. the little shop there sells puncture kits for a reason!
  13. I am also going there soon. I have been before and I mtb'ed inside Dikhololo around the animals which was pretty fun especially seeing as I didn't realise how fast a giraffe can move and how curious they are.
  14. I have been using the Saris Bones 2 now for a while and it is easy to use and works well whether at speed on the freeway or down a steep dirt road loaded with two 29er mtb bikes and it fits them both very well too.
  15. You can mountain bike midday between Clarens and Golden Gate, up the dirt road to Bokpoort game farm and on to Rebellie game farm and then up the 4x4 trail to the top of the hills overlooking the Caledon river. From there you can take the trail to Camelroc, quite technical and not easy all the way to near the Calendonspoort border post with Lesotho. Would do it in a larger group though.
  16. I like my new little blade
  17. Hmm. I buy my own roasted beans. Grind them up. And use a plunger
  18. My sister bought a Makro special. I warned her not to ha. A week later she returned it and got her money back. Rather buy a used 26er that is a decent bike. That is what I did last year to get into MTBing. This year I bought my new Silverback 29er after using the 26 frame to experiment with and know what I like and need etc.
  19. I got pushed by some big dude on the Spruit a few months ago. I was riding in Delta up top on the path- maybe I should have let him have the path? Dunno? Next time I can go around him- walkers can use the Spruit too he had a big dog and a hot babe so maybe was trying to impress her. He pushed my mate too. He didn't push my 3rd mate as he is a big guy lol. Maybe he was a coward after all. Didn't bother me much though.
  20. I still think its overpriced. I use a used Saris Bones 2 that I bought off here for 1k. Works well, is solid, and takes 2 bikes. The Hornet takes one bike and is 2.3k....... more than the Saris Bones new.
