  1. I am looking for ideas for higher end single speed specific frames for a project. Rigid or suspention at front. Thinking about Niner SIR9, Santa Cruz Highball, Cannondale with Lefty There are some serious expensive titanium frames but that is out of my league Any ideas?
  2. Hairy, you are not allowed to post pictures like that. That is an awesome bike. Brand/ model?
  3. Dalem, the cheapest way is to just keep your bike in one gear. Do this by locking your rear deraileur in place with the screws that you use to set the limits. Next, break your casset into pieces by removing the bolts that keep it all together. Find another discarded casset and do thr same. This is done to get the spacers. Now, play around to find the gear ratio that works for you. Middle blade at front and something like 18 at back. Now stick your selected gear for the back together with the spacers on the hub with the gear aligned with the front blade. Now remove all the other bits and cables. This might not be a longterm solution or be very ellegant but it is cheap. The beter solution would be to buy a spacer kit with stronger gear for back as well as a proper chain tensioner Hope all of that made sense
  4. Thanks for the replies. I know William. Will ask him. My partner has self done a great deal of SSing. So he knows what will happen Only one way for me and that will be on a 29er
  5. Has anyone done Sani on SS? Asume answer will be yes. I have finally gotten a ticket to ride. Partner is cool with me wanting to do it on a SS. Is it worth doing it or should I just stick with normal bike? If so, what gear ratio will do the trick? Now I just need to start saving for one of those blingie bikes thats been flashed around
  6. I see the Hairy bunch is growing. Beats cycling alone
  7. Ek is nou amper reg om te huil. Oh, maar dis vrek mooi
  8. Cool! I know that face. The guy with the heaviest cummuting bike around but also the friendliest? Maybe all the sourfaces each morning sould take note :-)
  9. I use it daily, sometimes with company, but mostly alone and haven't had any issues. I will not use the N1 because there is already enough bmw, audi and fortunner drivers that tries to kill you. Taxis and busses I can deal with
  10. Depending on were you bord your train, you might have to pay R10 extra for the bike (or not ;-) ). Entering or exiting at Cape Town station, you will pay Whatever you do, either lock the bike onto a pole inside the train or sit on top of it. Most spacious place is to bord right behand the train driver, otherwise people bump into you all the time
  11. I'm turning my cyclocross into a singlespeed. Been testing the runs in and out to explore my options. Cycling from Durbanville to Cape Town city with a serious hill in between. For the lazy days I can take train and save 20k. But it takes almost the same time to get back home. The cool thing is that you get to do some training and see the sun rising Regarding visibility: if it glows, blinks and flashes, use it. I use lights, reflective tape and construction worker reflective vest. And never asume somone in a car/taxi/truck/bus will be looking out for you
  12. Remember that what the chiro do mostly involves your spine. If your muscles are the problem, then no amount of chiro work will solve it unless they also solve the muscle issue. The muscles will just pull your neck / back out of alignment. My chiro also do dry-needling if he finds any musle spasms. But a physio is better qualified to solve these muscle / fascia issues. They work hand-in-hand. No use solving the one problem and not the other PM me is you want his number (Durbanville)
  13. Remember that formulas are used to calculate those values. And it is based on averages from previous surveys. Your final position might differ from those supplied. No formula is perfect for everybody. Only you yourself can determine if you are comfortable or not

    Custom bibs

Accept for my Fox baggies, my Assos investments are the best shorts I have (oh, and my old-school leather shammies) Honestly I find that Panda shammies to thick and the bib to warm for summer The FTech bibs are good and Anatomic ok Don't know about Veltex All depend on the usage
  15. Cool. Will contact them
  16. In the end it is about the fitter and not the methodology. There is nothing to doing a Ergofit or BGfit but doing the changes after the initial adjustments are were the difference lies. Getting you to a generic fit is not enough if you are not exactly perfectly build and aligned. And that is were the difference lies
  17. Question: what would you be willing to pay for a professional fit? Also, should a fitter be associated with a LBS or methodology? Someone who knows what they are doing and not just measure a few things, stick it in a computer program, get an output and send you on your happy way. The body is far more complex to simply stick you into a generic mold and then expect you to be properly fit. In the end you must be comfortable and efficient on your bike
  18. I am sorry to highjack your request but what is your impression about the Speedplay pedals? I'm considering buying but since nobody sells them it will have to be via the internetweb. Where did you buy? Anybody maybe have impressions on the Speedplay frogs for mtb?
  19. As long as everything works, you can do it on a R4000 second-hand bike
  20. Unless you want to compromise on things like your frame and fork (cranks, bar-ends, etc), how do you expect to seriously loose weight on you bike? Just because you have always liked it doesn't mean it is going to cut it when you want lightweight. Money solve all weight issues (and maybe laxatives :-) )
  21. Look at http://reviews.mtbr.com/blog/category/lights-shootout/
  22. What about a Scalpel? I have ridden the Specialized 29er that was far (and I mean far) to big for me and it still rode beatifully (incuding rockey singletracks, etc). For 29ers you might have issues finding components and stuff in ZA (think tires here). Ride the different bikes and make your choice. You will know when it is the right fit for you
