  1. Ek is mal oor trailer park boys en my vrou bevraagteken my inteligensie agv daarvan. Van die seasons is minder goed maar overall is dit baie entertaining. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Reading my post now I feel the need to clarify: I am not some rich douch that have plenty of money to throw around...hence the need to stand out from the Rolex crowd. Understanding the principles of "the law of diminishing returns" is after all a qualifying criteria on a cycling forum. I feel so much more at home amongst people with totally illogical passions than with people without. The watch forums actually have even more of those nutters than the HUB...
  3. My main gripe with Rolex is that it is too mainstream. When you see someone wearing a Sub you have probably a 10% chance that the person is a horologist. With the Blancpain that probably goes up to 95%. The other factor is comfort. I like the bigger watches, which mean the only Rolex I ever considered was the Sea-Dweller deepsea. I like the look a lot, but it must be the most uncomfortable watch ever made. I used to have a IWC Big Piot, and as much as I liked that, it was also never a comfortable wearer. The Blancpain is similar size but way more comfortable. Both the IWC and BP are excellent for connecting with other horologists on airports and at conferences
  4. Not sure how come I have never noticed this thread, but it’s right down my alley. This is my latest addition. Just love the heritage that comes with this one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Was dreading the SA/England test series but maybe it might just be a cracker and the springboard we so desperately need! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. This was a great event. Thanks to the Wildekrans team. Even got 2 bottles of wine in the lucky draw. Will definitely be back! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I bought Indola for W2W and was super impressed. Punching way above their weight! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Have to add that both series starts reasonably slow but if you plough through (maybe first 2 episodes) you will be richly rewarded Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Peaky Blinders The Americans Both great series and I can’t wait for the new seasons to arrive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I thought both Day 1 and Day 2 was tougher this year than last year. Last year some of the A-Z single track was cut out due to a fire so day 1 was a bit easier. This year they made Day 2 a bit longer with more single track.
  13. Owning a W2W shirt that is one size too small is actually a right of passage. The sizes were not as bad as last year, but it was still hit and miss. If at least one of either your jacket or shirt fit then you have done well.
  14. Here is a clip I found on youtube:
  15. If you are ever in the Sedgefield area I strongly recommend that you try the Garden Route Trail Park. The Mountain Mania trail has a downhill that is the best I have ever ridden. On strava the section is called The Long Drop. This single track downhill is 5.2 km from top to bottom and you drop 227m in elevation. It's got big burms and switch backs that drops several meters in the bends. All very ridable and exhilarating.
  16. That's true. I used the 63km as a training ride for W2W, and boy was it tough! It was way tougher than any of the W2W days, but it set me up to be fitter in W2W than ever before. It was an incredibly rewarding ride though.
  17. Nice summary. For your type of riding and can really recommend the Piket-Bo-Berg race as well. By far the best single track I have done in a race.
  18. In 2014 the song they played at the start was David Guetta: Lovers on the Sun. Still my favourite W2W start song and I still get goose bumps when it comes on the radio. It will forever be a song that I associate with W2W.
  19. I also want to add that they do not inflate the drinks prices just because its a captive market. The CBC beers were R25 each for crying out loud. I think SPAR charges more than that!
  20. I am also surprised about all the bad reviews. I have done 5 W2W and the last 3 with my current partner. He is from the UK and the first year we did it together was the first time ever he has been to South Africa. Experiencing W2W through his eyes is definitely something else. He keeps raving about the nature and well organised everything is. He keeps saying there is nothing in the UK that can compete with this. He is now returning every year just for W2W. This year we approached dinner differently. The big tent gets very noisy and busy at dinner time so we hung around the chill area with a bottle of Pinot Noir until everyone else have eaten. We did miss out on the steak but there was still a lot of chicken wings, tuna salad and fresh salad (with still a lot of olives and feta) left. Dinner was great and not so crowded. Other things to point out that is great: - The logistics with the bags - The showers. Always hot water and no long queues. - The chill out area - The friendliness of fellow riders (at least back in I/J batch where we were) - The mattresses in the tents are actually not bad. - There are enough toilets so the queues were never too long - We quite like the Spur Burger at the end of the race - The logistics at the bike wash and storage was also good. There is a bit of panic in the mornings when you can't find your bike immediately, but not for long - Initially I did not like the new sweater we got this year, but I have changed my mind on that one. It's actually quite nice to wear around the house when its chilly All in all it comes back to the fact that everything is relative. Listening to my partner I realise how fortunate we are with all the choice we have regarding races. He just giggles when I tell him people on The Hub things that W2W is overpriced.
  21. Really sorry to hear that. I was also really enjoying your build-up to the event and the anticipation on registration day.
  22. A-Z used to have a very different feel before the pine forrest burned down. Now it is barren and sandy. It is very sad to see. Yesterday in the heat it must have felt like riding through a very hot desert.
