  1. The other end is just the threaded axel. There is a rubber dust cap? and below that is the bearing. See image below as well as the exploded view
  2. I have looked to see if the axle can take an Allen key but it is round, so that's not it. I tried with a small clamp but I am scared I mess up the threads of the axel. I will give a vice grip a try at some stage today and see if that holds it. When I do get the nut off, how do I remove the bearings? Thanks for all the help thus far
  3. It is definitely a nut but I have nothing to counter rotate against in order to turn it off
  4. I have realised that since Sani, my rear hub bearings are grinding and have pretty much seized. I have decided to fix this myself since I pretty much do everything else on the bike without hassle but the hubs have me stumped. Firstly, I have never done a hub bearing so I am not too sure how to go about it. Secondly, It is a Sram X9 rear hub and there is no info on it online besides an exploded view on the Sram website. I haven't been able to find any videos on YouTube, not have I found a tutorial on the interwebs. I have disassembled the hub to a point but cannot get any further. I cannot seem to remove the black nut pictured below. Can anyone give me some pointers, or better yet, a tutorial on how to remove X9 hub bearings. Thanks!
  5. Not yet, will they sell to the public directly?
  6. Sorry for opening up old threads here but does anyone know where to get a lefty air filter from quickly?
  7. Anyone in canon rocks / Kenton area this week?
  8. Go for the Titan... Contact Dorpie on here, he has stock of these for really good prices
  9. The wait at the river crossing was the only downside. The route is exactly how a mountainbike race should be. It was tough, with all different types of terrain including grass, rocks, mud, hardpack, district road, jeep track and a bit of tar. I really feel that for the price, this is a really good value for money race.
  10. I have noticed the same. I understand that the rain caused absolute havoc but like 8848 says, it's not extremely expensive to repair / maintain. Maybe contact them via Twitter, Facebook or email. I tried to email them a while ago and never received a response.
  11. I must agree with Brian Fantana! I have found that by only having access to the 10 gears, I seem to conserve my energy in areas where I would normally push myself unnecessarily. This hasn't slowed me down at all but rather made my times faster. FYI, I am running a Wolftooth 32T up front with a regular 11-36 cassette with a non clutch derailleur. No dropped chains
  12. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/83276-giant-29er-mtb-2013/ This is a pretty good deal. Tubeless is already done and has a Deore groupo
  13. On road and off road
  14. Funny video I found while scouring the interwebs http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/83919754/
  15. I have been running a 32T Wolftooth chainring with a Sram X9, long cage, non clutch, 10 speed derailleur and I have not had one dropped chain either. I have found that the 32T is perfect for the riding I do but I am pretty sure that in a few months time, I will change it to a 34T just for those extra few kms of speed on the downhills. I currently top out at about 40-45km/h. This hasn't affected my ride times since its not often that I ride at that speed for long periods of time.
  16. I must compliment on Janos and Evobikes for the excellent service that I have received from them this week. I ordered yesterday at 1pm and the goods were at my door at 10am today. CPT to JHB in less than 24hrs. Awesome work guys!!
  17. From what I found, you need to tap the other arm out from the drive side
  18. I searched Youtube for about an hour and couldnt find that.
  19. Got it... Thanks Gents. Just to recap if others have the same problem. 10mm Allen Key used on the drive side and turned in an anti-clockwise direction. It was very difficult to turn at first but got easier. It was a self extracting. Just for reference the 3 bolts that hold on the spider are T25 Torx bolts
  20. 10mm
  21. Can anyone explain to me how to remove the Sram X7/X9 BB30 crank from the frame? From what I understand, the non-drive side arm needs to be removed first but I have no idea how. The 10mm Allen key slot has a warning that states "Do not remove" and I am also not sure which way the nut should turn? Can anyone give me a guide on removing it as well as if special tools are needed. thanks
  22. Purple Extreme
  23. Anyone know where to get a 120BCD 36T chainring
  24. Just looking for some advice on the 1 x 10 setups. I am currently running a 2 x 10 setup with a 39-26 up front and a 11-36 at the back. My rear derailleur is a sram x9 10 speed type 1 If I want to change to a 1 x 10 setup and I get a long tooth chainring http://www.evobikes.co.za/frm-single-speed-34t-long-tooth-chainring.html Will I need to get a chainguide? Will I need to shorten my chain? Do I need a type 2 (clutch) derailleur? Thanks
