  1. who's worried about weights. Just get 2nd hand parts that work and fit together..ie sometimes you cant use the 150mm fork with the 3mm XC softtail...or the Shimano shifters with SRAM RD. and check that you have the right size FD,BBs, seatposts, clamps etc..
  2. i used to run LX brakes and have changed to J5s. Personally i dont have the squeeking anymore, the pads last longer and i dont have to set my brakes every so often..... But that's just me!!
  3. hi..I have a shmano hubbed m475 hubbed mavic 317 wheelset and a DT swiss X1900 wheelset. The DT swiss is lighter and probably not as strong. The question is: my grilfirend rides a dual suspension bike, and does technical stuff in tokai but very slowly and generally likes XC races..., so which wheelset would suit her better. I'm worried that if she gets the DT swiss X1900 wheelset it will buckle within a couple of weeks, months? any suggestions or imput would be great
  4. personally havent ridden a Trek top fuel, but i did ride an Anthem at the ride b4 u buy. Wasnt that impressed with the ride. The bike felt very hard and cornering on a downhill made me feel jittery. I rode a trance and that felt better but still not as good as the genius does.I ride a genius MC and i love it. Very comfortable and very sure footed. It even feels better than the commencal meta 5.5 did. But that's my opinion. The GT marathon carbon probably felt the best out of the lot. And it's about R30k newm, which is about the genius 2009 starting price.
  5. i'm pretty much ok with the prices of stuff at my LBS but somehow every time i take something in for a minor repair i end up with a whopping bill. Makes me think 2x about going there.
  6. i was looking to bring in a carbon frame formyself. What would that code be and VAT, import taxes etc? I think the more expensive stuff should still be cheaper to bring in, it's the less expensive stuff that may be worthwhile at your LBS
  7. was wondering when they were going to enforce that - it has been the rule for quite somtime now. For about the last year they have only been doing that when it was consigned to a company' date=' not an indiviual.......thank goodness I'm a customs clearing agent......[/quote'] What's a customs clearing agent and how much should we pay you to do the necessary???
  8. hey Oxwagon, I have a 2005 MC which i have upgraded. I did break a rear chain stay clean through on a ride once. Had it replaced and no problems since. I believe they do have problems with the rear stays breaking though although thank goodness it hasnt happened in 2 years and i ride a lot wilder now. Having said that i didnt even service the rear shock for many years, until recently. I've never had major leaking problems with mine. I dump and repump air in on a regular basis and it works great. Very chuffed with the bike.
  9. Hi, I have a top peak comp 150 wireless bike pc and i have managed to reset the distance . But now i cant get it to pick up anything. I've gone to the web and downloaded the manual but it doesnt say how to start it again. Any help?? suggestions
  10. hear hear Shaun, Better to choose the bike on a frame not on components. U can upgrade your components but getting a new frame is gonna cost. Always frame first. Just saying that cos i love GT bikes
  11. i agree. Depends on what u want to do with the biek? XC , all mountain?? I upgraded to a set of Easton XC one wheels which are suopposed to be 30% stronger than other wheels and ended up buckling them in 2 months. Still i saved tons of weight on the bike just from the wheelset and tyres.
  12. what about the bubbles in the disc brake fluid. doent that move? Just wondering cos they said i shouldnt store my bike upside down.
  13. hey 79-2 is Breyton Paulse on his Scott Genius!!
  14. i think i broke my rear stay, had a major puncture, had to go through major bike renovatuions , all in 3 months. Then i've been lucky fior awhile and now again teh buckling of both my rear wheels on my training bike and on teh all mountain bike. Guess you just go through times when u refine your technique b4 u get more adventurous.
  15. yep..and all emergency services were placed on alert for the day so they definitely knew that the argus was on
  16. hi Cyclistmom, Sorry about your son, hope he's recovering well. In defence of the fire department and volunteers, they all do a stunnig job fighting the tons of fires going at the moment. All fireman are also required to have a minimum level 3 first aid. I am assumig that since noone even looked at your son, they were probably not supposed to be using the vehicle and that they were not fire department personell but rather friends of someone in the department. Having said this i think you do need to lay a charge against them because it gives the fire department a bad name, especially if people are abusing the vehicles. If they were fire department personell, then i wouldnt want one of them rescuing me if they are incompetant- I also volunteer for a rescue organization and we are organised and efficient. So by laying a charge you would be doing the fire service some justice... go for it!!
  17. thanx dude
  18. hey, anyone know who is the best for rebuilding or truing wheels in Cape Town?? Seems like i've buckled 2 wheels and the cant be trued....just want a second opinion from someone really good at it!! Thanx
  19. i always thought a good way of measuring was to stand over the bike, pull it up untill it touches your nuts, and seei f there is a t least 12cm clearance. or else u gonna hurt something.
  20. i hda a frame couriered form East London to CT . It was wrapped in Bubble wrap and cardboard and cost R80 to courier it by the post office.
  21. well seeing as the bike prices of new bikes have gone up 20-30 % i figure if the bikes in reasonable condition and is the right size for u, then it's an awesome bike to get. Specialized bikes ride very well. I reckon u cant go wrong.
