  1. Sorry to piggyback on the post, but I need to get a new casette and don't know the difference between normal shimano casette, slx casette, xt casette and sram casettes. What should I go for?
  2. Aahh...thanks.
  3. Sorry, I feel like a bit of an idiot, but what is... Inline, set back? Aren't all seat posts straight?
  4. Erm...that doesn't answer my question. So, upgrading the seat post is all about bling? I suppose a bit of weight too? Or does it "feel/perform" different?
  5. Hi guys First off I want to say I am a sucker for new products for my beloved mtb. However, I think I am missing something. I see upgradable parts as derailleurs, cranks, brakes, shifters etc. But, there are loads of seat posts, bars and stems on sale. It seems as if a lot of people are pimping these items. Does another seat post make a big difference? Bar I understand I suppose, even perhaps the correct length stem. But a seat post? Maybe I'm too used to my crappy seat post and haven't experienced the joys of a pimped seat post... Am I missing something?

    Overtake

You are corrected. The speed limit is the limit. If the guy in front of you is doing 120 you cannot pass him.
  8. So, I have R2100. Do I go for the new RST First air, or a second hand Recon Race? I am certainly leaning towards the RST...it's new, it seems like the same technology as all the rest and it's not like RST is new to bicycle forks.
  9. What are the costs involved?
  10. Burry for the win!
  11. Yeah, I know. I'm currently torn between getting a second hand Recon Race or a new RST First Air. Roughly same price. I would like to hear from someone that is riding with one.
  12. Is anyone using one of the new RST forks? www.rst.com.tw RST always used to make entry level forks, but they are now trying to take on the big guys. Obviously a lot cheaper also. I would like to know how these forks actually perform. Anyone?
  13. How do you fasten the flat piece of metal to the bakkie? Dont the bikes slide around and ultimately fall over?
  14. No. When shifting gears, and the first 2 go fine, but after that it starts grinding and jumping, change the barrel. This doesn't mean that the 3rd and 4th will work fine but the 1st and 2nd not. It means that the derailleur will shift a bit more, ensuring that it doesn't go out my 1 mm on each shift, resulting in a 7mm difference at gear 8. (all random numbers) The barrel does change the amount the derailleur shifts.
  15. Surely setting the amount the derailleur shifts (barrel at cable end) you can get past this. Just ensure that the cable derailleur moves a bit less. Huh?
  16. Well, that's what I am asking. I have 8spd shifters and cassette, but want to slowly start upgrading...starting with the shifters first. However, I think it should work fine...given the right tuning.
  17. No, you don't get 9 or 8 speed derailleurs. You have to change the travel of the dr. I am currently using a XTR rapid rise on a 8spd cassette...
  18. Hi Is it possible to use 9spd shifters with a 8 speed cassette? Maybe by setting the High limit on the derailleur and thereby forcing the shifter not to be able to go past 8? Any idea?
  19. Hi How do I know if a crank will match a BB. Or do they all fit together? I have a entry level BB and crank and want to upgrade to a SLX crank. However, I don't know if I have to upgrade the BB as well. Also, do BB's come in different sizes? Pls help...
  20. Hehe, the legs were fine. However, the next day my arms were toast! Think it was a combination of the swim and manhandling my mtb to stay with the group! These triathlons are really a load of fun. And, they are as difficult as you make them. You can take it easy, or gun it! Already entered the Germiston and Van der Byl legs of the series. I know there is a Sasol Cross (off-road) triathlon each year. Anyone know when that is starting?
  21. I competed in the bsg energade triathlon this weekend at roodeplaad dam, and being a mtb'er did the 20km tar stretch on my trusty heavy mountain bike! I managed to join a group of riders and was amazed at the excitement generated when riding with a bunch. Chasing at the front, taking the strain until your legs burn like crazy. Then, just as you think you can't go any more, the group gradually passes you, allowing you to take a bit of a rest at the back. Then, slowly but surely, with legs revitalised, you move back to the front, taking on your fair share of work. Swishing past cyclists in the comfortable knowledge that if you stay with the group, the stretch of tar will be devoured in no time! Now, I was using my mtb, but I can only imagine how much fun it must be with a proper road bike and a longer race. I still think mtb'ing is a lot more fun, however, for that 20km stretch of tar I fleetingly felt like a pro cycling in the tour, chasing the leaders! Maybe time to buy a road bike as well...
  22. Hi Just want to give a thumbs up to Centurion Cycles (0126637642). Started out a while ago with me driving around looking for gear cables and housings. Tried 3 shops in Centurion, with Centurion Cycles being half the price of the others. Then, went around looking for brake cables...once again half price at Centurion Cycles. Spoke tool, Crank tool...you guessed it, much cheaper at Centurion Cycles. I then went by on Saterday (2 shops only this time) and asked if they could get the Big Blue Book Of Bicycle Repair 2nd Edition. Only Centurion Cycles came back to me and said it would cost R250. Online it sells for R300 excl the R130 shipping and excl taxes! Just picked up my copy from them and will from now on not waste fuel costs driving around looking for the cheapest place. I know where they are!
  23. Racingsnail, I have the same problem. Have a heavy entry-level hard tail and not doing too badly in races (well, middle of the field). However, I would love to know how much more I would enjoy the races with a nice bike...before spending all the cash on one... I am too bloody stingy to fork out the cash before knowing if I will like the bike on a 3 hour trip... :s
  24. Scott Contessa's quite a nice ladies bike too.
