  1. Is the XTR package at R450 really so much better than the cheapies at R60? I suppose they last longer...
  2. I don't know exactly what outer cable it was (except that it is shimano), but it did have some sort of grease in.
  3. I decided to replace my gear cables today. Bought cheap shimano cables (R15 per cable) and shimano housing (R20 per meter, 2 meters required). First off, WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The gear changes are now quick, precise and easy. Change took about an hour. (next time should only take 20mins) I started off by opening up my shifters, loosening the cables from the derailleurs and pulling the cables loose. I kept the pieces of cable housing for the next step. I then cut the new cable housing to the same lengths of the pieces I was replacing. This was a bit more difficult than expected, seeing as I have a basic cable cutter, and the cable housing is quite tough. I cleaned the cable housing plugs (the bits that go over the cable housing to ensure that very little dirt goes into it) and then sprayed them with Q20 (dont know if it will help, but I'm hoping it reduces rust and water entering the housings). I cleaned the inside of the shifters with a bit tissue and then also sprayed it with Q20. There was quite a bit of dirt in, which probably means I far too often sit at the back of the pack in races and hence sit in the dust... When the shifters were clean I fed the cables through the shifters and through all the required holes to the derailleurs (also putting cable housings in correct places). Back derailleur : I forced the derailleure to put the chain in the third smalles sprocket (3rd fasted gear). I then put the barrel screw on and screw it all the way in and then 1.5 turns out. This ensured that if required, I could loosen or tighten the cable. I fed the cable through the fastening bolt, pulled it tight with a plyer and tightened the bold. Front deraulleur: This was quite easy. I screw the barrel screw at the shifter all the way in and then 1.5 turns out. I pulled the cable through the fastening bolt, pulled it tight with a plyer and fastened the bolt. Job done. Went for a ride afterwards and absolutely loved it. Cannot believe cable changes makes such a big difference. If there are any hints, please post it.
  4. Yes, pretty sure the bluetooth wearlink transmitter will work. Just don't know where to get one... Even Polar's site only has limited info on the transmitters.
  5. Does anyone know if the Polar bluetooth wearlink will work with any nokia? And, where can I get one? I have the Nokia N73, and not the Nokia N79 Active. However, Sportstracker works fine with my phone, and I suppose if I have a bluetooth wearlink I will be able to record heart rate as well! https://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/main/n79_polar.do
  6. I am doubtful now Apparently some family thing on Sunday morning!
  7. I don't know what anyone looks like...should we wear red roses on our shirts to recognise each other
  8. Hi I currently have el-cheapo v-brakes on my bike. Does it really make any difference to have really expensive v-brakes compared to cheap ones? Is there a noticeable difference?
  9. How did the Dart2 perform before it broke? I'm thinking of getting one.
  10. Eat the hamburger and return the rest!
  11. Yes, I would also like to know how it compares... Thinking of doing the 75km Monster!
  12. That is crazy expensive. Crazy cool also...
  13. So Sean, how does it ride? Cos, from what I understand you had the whole weekend to try it out? Must ride like a dream!
  14. Well, they did manage to get you guys talking about it...
  15. I'm still waiting for my issue in the mail... 7th already!
  16. You get 175 as well...don't know however when you should use which length?!?
  17. For sure. Currently all the strain is on only a few muscles. If I can spread the load surely I will last longer.
  18. Great post! I have tried the "pulling up" as well, but also battle to continue this for a long time. I don't think I get more tired, just that I lose concentration and forget to peddle properly!
  19. What?!? This is a cycling forum?!?
  20. Does anyone know of a design to make your own car bike carrier? Bike carriers are very expensive and yet quite simple! Surely there should be designs for it...
  21. My critical mass is the mass I obtain right after a braai and plenty beers. That mass makes me top-heavy!
  22. Quite glad I booked mine well in advance. Should be a cracking race! Doing the 80km!
  23. I was also leaning towards normal jogging shorts.
