    [Event] Xhiliraces

This was the best shorter distance (30km) race I've ever ridden! Tough climbs, technical downhills, awesome singletrack. i suspect some riders will moan about being too technical for a 30km race, please don't change anything for next year it was perfect! PS event organising afterwards needs some attention...no beer/wine...coffee took for ages (old story).
  2. LOL ok...will put the relationship to the test one more time and pace her up StH. Gotta break this voodoo asap. Good insights all-round, txs. You definitely forget how terrifying this whole thing is in the beginning.
  3. Hi, pls help - racking my brains for good places to ride that are easy on a beginner. Trying to get about 20km in with moderate climbing. I'm experienced, but my partner not. Stairway to Heaven at Meerendal ended in tears twice Any good suggestions? Hoogies/Conties would be too challenging. Thanks!

Hi Hubbers I've been a bit lax...super busy at work...so little training and doing last minute organising for Tue's Trail. Just organised shuttle/accommodation previous evening/massages. From reading above, proper GPS a must? I have an Edge 500 that is not really ideal for following maps. Should I upgrade? Still need a place to stay at Scottsburgh were we finish - I've been told there is a bit of a vibe in the town (general or a specific place?) so better to stay there than go back to airport side for flight next morning back to Cpt. Anywhere good or any place specific to recommend for accommodation? Thanks!
  6. Appreciate what you're saying, happy to call this my personal decision based on a number of events done in the area. In this race, what really got to me was Hillcrest - descending that horrible, steep and loose gravel and then climbing the awesome ST through Elastoplast Valley. That's where I decided "never again"!
  7. Never racing where I live (and ride) again! Very disappointing 40km route, as if they deliberately tried to take all the fun ST out of it and make it "afkark". Share the sentiments around organisation as well. No 99er, Ashburton or Durbie Dash for me again. Stage races aside, the smaller ones are much more fun ie Philadelphia, Darling Brew etc Really didn't enjoy this Ashburton race.
  8. You don't decide to get addicted though...
  9. 2x11 group set and American Classics White Lightning wheel set.
  10. My 2014 Camber's upgrades to date: XT brakes American Classic Wide Lightning wheelset (awesome!) Eventually replaced groupset with 2x11 XT Carbon handlebar and stem
  11. Agree with OP. Only started cycling 2 years ago...but ride a lot in the Tygerberg area with plenty of single track and switch backs. Average W2W rider's technical skills are shocking! Slow on ST en horrendous on switch backs. Guess I'll just have to climb harder. Shaved 2.5 hours from last year's W2W so getting there! Was an awesome race nonetheless, damn fine riding. Even with yesterday's chaotic weather!
  12. CAN NOT WAIT! Roll on Friday.
  13. Great race, 60km is a perfect prep for W2W! Tough, but fun.
  14. Powerbeam Cycleops is brilliant. Fantastic software too.
  15. Easy. Specialized Camber. Next question? :-)
  16. Can't give you balanced advice. But went from stock on Spez Camber to AC Wide Lightning about 2 weeks ago and it's been a PR Strava fest!
