  1. Yes, for Comrades. I will only know on the day if I can push for silver but the idea is to spend less than 9 hours on the road. Thanks for your input.
  2. Chances are that the month of fasting would probably be 25 April to 24 May, meaning that I will have 3 weeks of taper(I would be doing a few HMs in the 1st half). Would it be ok to do my last long run of about 65-70km before I start fasting? I will be training throughout the fast as well so that I don't lose too much of my fitness, and I am hoping to do a back-to-back marathon over one of the weekends. Not sure how to approach this other than 'don't stop training'. Any pearls of wisdom would be appreciated.
  3. Went into Johnson Crane with only a single half marathon as my long run. Since I have already qualified for Comrades, speed didn't really matter so I spent 5 hours on my feet which I understand is perfect training. I ran the first half nonstop, and then did a walk/run to the finish. Due to the lack of distance, I could feel that my body wasn't too used to the duration of my day on the road but the good new is that my ITBs were silent. Well done to all.
  4. I recently purchased the Nike Zoom Fly FK with full carbon plate. I hope my time will improve in leaps and bounds :-)
  5. I have entered... Johnson Crane and Comrades(Q). Hoping to enter... Township(Feb), Jackie Gibson(March), and pump up the rest of my Comrades prep by doing my own thing. Might do a race just before the fasting month of Ramadhan.
  6. I ran in the rain 3 days this week already. I just wait for it to ease up to a light drizzle, whatever happens along the way is part of the mental training. So far, it has been quite enjoyable :-)
  7. I don't celebrate Christmas but I Nike this tree :-)
  8. It doesn't apply, it's just an example which proves that ear/headphones should not be used in TRAINing or racing.
  9. Not about running but here is a reason to avoid it. You don't have to read the article, it's all in the link already. https://metro.co.uk/2019/11/20/boxing-champion-killed-train-checking-phone-wearing-headphones-11190693/
  10. I was enjoying my break but I think the hard work only starts in January. I'll be starting my base from November. Don't tell everyone but I'm actually looking forward to it. Hopefully, it's just a once-off. See you all at the start, GOD WILLING.
  11. Give Eliud the same shoes from Mr Price that Bongmusa ran and won Comrades in, and he will still break 2 hours. All the negativity is purely sour grapes in my view.
  12. Here is why Eliud can turn on the pace at will... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzee0gPqcwE
  13. I bite smaller portions more often because if you take it at the wrong time, like whilst struggling to breathe, you will choke.
  14. It's no wonder that my 'overuse' of water is getting me nowhere. Maybe I should mix a drink LOL :-)
  15. Well done everyone. I ran a solid 26km(5'02") before I slowed down and eventually walked at the 30km mark. I then alternated between running and walking but finished the way I started. The niggles started from around 3km and I just pushed through it. Slight ITB, mostly, hip flexors and calves, and a little lower back. Humidity was unusually high for me too. I'm disappointed but I'm gonna work on those things. Finished with 4:24 :-(
  16. Best of luck to all Cpt marathon entrants(including me). Once again, I'll be hoping to go for a C seeding for Comrades but I haven't been feeling great. On the day, it may just come together. See you all out there. It should be fun.
  17. I only had a half marathon from March, not sure how much it helped. The only advantage is that I don't like starting too fast. It will take some doing to catch up but if I'm early enough, I can stand at the front of E, and basically be D.
  18. I got E. Not chuffed but I didn't have any race for them to reference. I wonder how many groups there are in total.
  19. Phantom niggles starting, suddenly everything you don't want starts to play with your mind. Come on race day.
  20. I'm aware of that, hence dipping under 3h40 is essential for my Comrades qualification.
  21. The probability is high but I'm gonna toss it if necessary. Since I'm from Cpt, I will know many people along the route so I can just leave it with someone. I'm testing it at the moment to see by how much it really slows me down, if it's minimal, I'll keep it.
