  1. Probably 2 - 2.5 hours to make up for training during the fast, leading up to Comrades if I am able to do it. Either just after sunset or 2am.
  2. Hi guys For those of you who run at night, is this a decent unit to light up my path? https://www.capestorm.co.za/vision-200c-headlamp?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsMnw49eN4QIVApPtCh2niQvnEAQYAyABEgJdV_D_BwE
  3. So since this post 2 weeks ago, I am up to 248km for the year now. I know that the increase in mileage is a lot but I'm still feeling good. I have entered the Jackie Gibson marathon on 31st March, and I feel that I should be ok to qualify. Still not sure about actually doing Comrades but I should have a good idea in 2 weeks. I'm just hoping that I won't be tired on race day.
  4. I was hoping to have a solid base but I was enjoying my time off. I have just over a month to decide, and whatever choice I make, I know it will be a very careful one. Thanks
  5. Fortunately I am used to training whilst fasting. This, however, is gonna be the worst I will ever go through if I decide to give it a go. Thanks
  6. True about the races going nowhere but I don't think I'll want to do it next year, or any other year. Thanks
  7. Hi Everyone This may be far-fetched but I would like to ask the following. I have been injured with my ITB issues, started building again recently after some physio sessions, and completed just over 134km for the year so far with no qualifiers entered or completed and no Comrades entry. Should I try my luck with the time left and go for it? I also have the month of Ramadhan in-between. TIA
  8. Sorry about the experience. Speedy recovery Andrew.
  9. 10km is still 10 more than me. No running since 4 November at Soweto Marathon. Physio has asked me to start running from tomorrow. Starting from scratch...again...while undergoing treatment on my ITB. Speedy recovery to you and everyone else experiencing any niggles.
  10. Well done to all who did the reverse 947, and to all the runners in their respective events. Excellent effort Barry.
  11. Thanks but I'm not interested in running anymore. I will train for the sake of health and fitness, not for an event. I have always been an athlete so I will do something to stay in shape.
  12. Hi Guys and Girls My Soweto experience yesterday has signalled my retirement. I did 12km in the first hour mainly due to the flats and downhills, I was feeling great. At 18km my ITB reared it's ugly head and that was my race. I walked the majority of the rest of the route, trying to run 400m and run 600m of every km. Slowly but surely, more niggles slowed me down due to overcompensation. It has been 'fun' at times but running is definitely not for me. I will now go for an assessment on trying to rectify the problems I am facing regarding my ITB but that's it for now, and probably for the rest of my days. Thanks to all for the chats and tips. Enjoy yourselves and be safe. Good luck to all of you in your races.
  13. Hi Everyone I'm gonna be offline for a few days and just wanted to wish everyone well for the Kaapsehoop and Soweto Marathons this coming weekend. Enjoy and start getting those Comrades qualifiers done and dusted.
  14. Condolences to you and your family Stretch, may your Dad rest peacefully :-(
  15. I really don't wanna know your approach if I said 11000
  16. It seems like entries will get to 10000 before this thread does
  17. I'm not going to enter. I'm sure that I can do a sub closer to the time. For now, I need to get through Soweto and if I am still in one piece, I may reconsider retirement.
  18. Welcome back. Glad to hear that you have recovered.
  19. Thanks SeaBee Sorry to hear about your injury. All the best with your recovery too.
  20. Thanks Barry, I'm thinking the same but I have to admit that maybe I needed some humbling, which is why it didn't go according to my plan. I was thinking to myself, OMTOM was probably an excellent day in comparison because I can't really make others understand how easily it went Cape Town. Yesterday should have been a walk in the park.
  21. Well, this was disappointing due to injury. Another DNF to encourage an early retirement. I had an excellent start, I was going faster than expected but not pushing too hard. The indicator was that the little group I was running in had heavy breathers and I was relaxed at a 4'30" pace. In comparison to last year, my splits were way better, but I was slowing down. My hip flexors were giving me issues and I couldn't swing my legs, and had to resort to a shuffle which wasn't helping much. I then walked a km to the next water station and asked them to alert the sweep vehicle :-( Covered about 29km, a very sad day at the office for me. Inside of my right Achilles is feeling it, quads are shot, lower back is in pain too but no ITB issues.
  22. Shaper - All the best for tomorrow.
