  1. All positive moves, but not nearly enough. The acid test will be when we send the next batch of young hopefuls to the Olympics. Lets see how many administrators vs athletes will be going to Rio next year.
  2. OK more specifically, why was Cherise Stander not selected to go to the last Olympics? She qualified and was the form rider at the time. Why did Maroesjka Matthee and other track cyclists have to try and make their own way to the world track champs earlier this year? What happened with that diabolical tour of SA 2 or so years ago? Where is the cycling academy that should have been established years ago (or at least taken over by CSA when Neotel dropped doper Hoffman)? I can go on and on, but this is why CSA will not see any of my cash.
  3. You are missing the point. I said that I'd gladly pay more if CSA was less useless. Whether I pay R120 or R1200, or whether CSA is trying to re-invent themselves as a lifestyle reward scheme for that matter, is irrelevant. The only thing that will get me onboard is if they become less useless. I would gladly support CSA (even at R1200 opposed to R120) if they at least partially executed their mandate.
  4. The problem is this "dibs" thing. It means different things to different people. it can be: - I'm taking it, we just need to confirm time and place for the final inspection - I'm moderately interested and will ef you around for 2 weeks while other buyers lose interest only to tell you that I'm not taking the stuff, or that I am going to try and shaft you out of 50% of your very reasonable asking price. Whenever I have sold items here it has always been on a first come, first served basis.
  5. I'd gladly pay R1200 if the bulk of the money actually went to cycling, and not administrators flying business class and staying 5 star. CSA has not been able to put a Tour of SA together, nor have they done anything tangible for development of the sport. We see that promising athletes have to compete internationally without their support and assistance and when it came to selection for Olympics etc. in the past, the best riders often found themselves not being selected. None of this is Europcar's fault, but a small % off my next car rental is no benefit to me.
  6. now that's clutching at straws... What would be a REAL benefit is if Europcar can supply bike racks to CSA members with cars being rented and also store bike boxes at their airport pick-up points. No one wants to rent a van just to get 2 x bikes, luggage and 2 peeps from the airport to their destination.
  7. Yes, thats roughly what the Bok emblem weighs. Its a heavy burden to carry.
  8. the biggest disappointment to me is the absence of a decider. Much like our shortened series against India this feels like putting down a good book 2/3rds through. It baffles me that they cannot find another 5 days in the itinerary. If a 3rd was a dead-rubber, by all means cancel it and have 2 x T20 games instead. A 3rd test would have surely received more interest than the first 2 as the series would be so delicately poised right now.
  9. Well played Black Caps! Have they ever won a series in England?
  10. Both are in the current setup. Morris struggled with an injury last year if I recall. Wiese got some game time and bowled well last year. Morris also have a few caps but was not taking wickets prior to getting injured. Who do you propose they leave out of the playing T20 11?
  11. There is nothing wrong with evolving a brand name. Many brands have evolved over decades: - Hilux, Corolla - BMW 3, 5, 7 series - Carte Blanche (the TV show) - the Cape Epic - even thehub has evolved
  12. Much like going from 30 gears to 1? Not quite. This is revisiting seemingly 'obsolete' systems and applying the latest available materials and tech to create what looks to be a good compromise between efficiency and comfort. I don't see it becoming 'mainstream' (it therefor will appeal to the wannabe hipsters out there who cycles with beards, and without shoes and only drink fake beer). It would be interesting to see what Absalon can do with this bike, much like what Nino is doing with 650b in a 29er dominated discipline.
  13. I quite like the concept. it seems to provide lateral stiffness and only vertical flex with minimal weight penalty and virtually zero maintenance, which is what you want from a suspension design. I don't think the idea is to replace rear suspension, it is merely an alternative for riders that would prefer something slightly more comfortable than a traditional hardtail. If I was a competitive marathon racer I would seriously consider this bike.
  14. R 8 for a PVM bar?! Are you nuts? A peanut-butter sandwich will cost about R2 to make, even if you put jam on. Seriously, I'd consider a R40 bar if it tastes better than most of the bars out there.
  15. IPL cricket has many intricacies. You may for instance only play 4 foreigners, meaning that the star Indian players are valuable commodities. Imagine if an IPL side ends up with 5 international Indian players and then can pick and chose their International players to fill the gaps that they have. It is a lot different than having 2 Indian Internationals a couple of haz-beens and a whole bunch of young Indians. Often an IPL side's success depends on how well the Indian youngsters do, not just the International senior pro's. The coaches are also not typically involved with the purchasing decisions and are often contracted on more or less the same basis as the players are. 3 weeks after a world cup is also not nearly enough time to work on any of your players' techniques. It does seem that the teams with strong Aussie representation show some good early form. One would expect this after a very successful Aussie WC.
  16. Ntini was way too one dimensional in his bowling, but that does not mean that he cannot coach. Has he done any first class coaching or consulting? The perfect bowling coach would be Jacques Kallis as he can also assist the bowlers to think on what the batsmen wants least in a good spell of bowling coming from the other end. Someone with good franchise experience like Paul Adams may also do quite well in the national setup.
  17. I see Alan Donald decided to call it quits with the Proteas. It will be interesting to see who will take over from him.
  18. I think Meerendal is responsible for their own maintenance and would be covered in the 3 year agreement signed between ACE and Meerendal. Perhaps chat to Meerendal Multi Sport about this?
  19. RIP Richie Benaud http://news.sky.com/story/1461998/voice-of-cricket-richie-benaud-dies
  20. I see Deysel got 7 weeks. I missed all forms of sport this weekend. I see that SANZAR took last year's 3 week ban into account as well. Can anyone comment on the offence and whether 7 weeks is justified?
  21. then why are so many of the shorts sizes out of stock?
  22. ahh the old bait-n-switch... Get 3 x items in stock. Make it ridiculously cheap to get people interested and you switch to another item / brand at the same place. Old... simple... effective...
  23. Being on the trails is a privilege, not a right. The least we can do is support Sanparks and Cape Pine in what must still be a very sensitive time for them.
  24. Being a serial 'vuilgat' is catching up with him. Like Butch James, he will also attract cards whenever he even thinks about tackling illegally. It is a pity that such a talented player also has seemingly unending issues when it comes to authority and discipline.
