  1. Will check the levels every other ride, or when I fill up (Which is very often on the 950)
  2. The result of 4 x rides over the weekend where the engine gets up to temp and sustains the temp for a good while. Ignore the oil saturated in the old garage floor ... this is a project for Dec. holidays to clean and probably paint.
  3. Cool, will keep an eye on the sweat and rev it like a rental
  4. The fuel pump has been replaced with an upgraded unit that resolved the ex. KTM fuel pump issues (Thank fully). It is more of a sweat I would say, so a drop or two after a decent ride. I am two rides down now, and there is still no oil on the white paper I am placing under the bike.
  5. Took her out now this morning for a quick spin .... she (To me at least) looks, feels and sounds awesome.
  6. So the old oil leak/sweat that the KTM had I thought would have been sorted when we replaced the hairline cracked stator cover, did not go away. Took her back to the KTM dudes who took another look and are in two minds as to the leak. 1. The nice leak = o-rings at the fuel pump. 2. The ugly leak = the base gaskets, both of them on the v-twin. The KTM dudes cleaned the motor up nicely, and I collected her today in order to put a bit of mileage on her so that they can try and trace the leak. Gut feel though by the KTM dudes it that it is the base gaskets, and if this is the case, then I will have to rethink this bike in a big way. A. I can either just replace the base gasket and move on hoping that the bike is good to go. B. I can replace the gasket, sell her to try and recoup some money and buy a new bike, but I will be a good few thousand ZARS in the red. C. Bite the bullet, when the engine is open, do a full refresh of the motor. The only issue the price tag associated with this decision, and it is a price I do not think I am willing to pay. So by end of next week I will have a better idea of where I stand. BUT Screw this chop who I bought the bike from (To be fair he only had the bike for a few months and put around 400km on her), but more so the guy who he bought the bike from.....unless when he sold the bike to the guy I bought the bike from and declared the issues with the bike (Current and previous ones I have sorted out).
  7. You can tell her she is just bragging now
  8. you have a good wife
  9. Never know, you and your brother may just form something special over the upcoming ralley that keeps the two of you coming back, and keeping the the family in the race/ride/event
  10. Might still be available. https://wilddog.net.za/threads/1984-yamaha-xt-600.275832/
  11. White + Red paintjob with gold rims = 😍
  12. Hi All Do any of you have a GPS file for a Gravel ride running to Darling? I have heard talk of something from Parklands and another route from Durbanville.
  13. So the Sand Skill Class was postponed, and a quick spin out to Dirt 'N Dust for a few laps of the enduro loop (The trails are rutted out and loose compared to the last time I was there when it was nice and muddy) at a pace that felt so slow I was expecting a 5 year old to zoom past me on one of those black plastic push bikes. Leaving there I picked up on an alternative route option that took me on some gravel roads I did not know existed going in the direction of Philadelphia. I had to turn off at one point to get to the road linking to Phili, and was really curious how far the gravel road kept going on for. Just before hitting the tar section, the gravel road was flooded ... and I have not done a flooded off road section before, or had any idea how deep this section was, but decided to give it a spin anyway ... what a lot of fun this was. From here it was a quick and scenic tar loop home. Google maps tells me it was the Mosselbank Rivier crossing
  14. SAND SKILLS CLASS The guy who I attended the gen. skills class with at Dirt 'N Dust is doing a Sand Skills Class this Sunday at Zone 7 (Cape Town, between Melkbos and Table View) if anyone is interested. Cost = R650, this includes access to Zone 7. Time: 9:00 - 13:00 / 13:30 pending how things go Let me know if you keen to join as there are still one or two slots still open.
  15. Went to play around on the Parklands and Sunningdale North extents where they have cleared the bush for development, with the intention of doing a little sand practice/riding. 1. with all the rain we have had, the sand is a bit firmer than what one would see in summer for our area 2. there are wet sections that are properly saturated and are like loosey goosey 3. some firmer gravely type sections This was much easier than I anticipated, there are trails leading off from there in a few directions, some head out far and tie into more trails via longer swooping routes, and then the others veer into the more complex tight areas where the boys and girls play on their plastic bikes in the bush. Following these more adv bike friendly routes on Google Earth and CoCT higher res aerial maps, you can basically go from the R27 and ride around the perimeter of Blaauwberg nature reserve and then tie into the railway roads or other paths and end up in Atlantis without riding any tar. From conversations with others, you can supposedly also get to Darling from this rail road and then from here there are many other gravel road alternatives to further explore on. I am going to go back again, but will go with other riders as I did not want to go into the bush without back up and with informal settlements not far away there may well be a few skelms that also walk through the area picking off good guys walking through the bush taking short cuts to work and back.
  16. Also had a set of Karoo 4's fit on Saturday morning. From how good they felt on the road, and then on the dirt (Mixed surfaces from firm, sandy, muddy and snotty water saturated grass) Sunday I am looking forward to seeing how they fair going forwards.
  17. Did a skills course yesterday (Location, Dirt 'n Dust) and went from being anxious as to how the 950 will feel on dirt to having the time of my life. 4hrs well spent, and a big boost in unlocking bike handing skills and confident!
  18. Thanks, I will be riding predominantly on road before doing more and more dirt. EDIT: I also can not speak for how the tyres have been historically stored or treated as this is a new to me bike. Given the above, I think I should just accept I need a new pair of tyres.
  19. THE CONTENTIOUS TYRE QUESTION/S: My bike is still a new to me bike, and I am going through her bit by bit to get her rolling as well as I can. She came fitted with a Pirelli Scorpion MT90 on the rear and a Metzler Karoo 3 on the front. The seller also had a rear K3 that has a little usage on it that came with the bike. Went to take a closer look at the tyres this morning to see the manufacturing date, and to just get an overall health / condition check on them as I want to get the K3 fitted to the rear (Just because I have the tyre, so might as well run it). The dates on the tyres read as follows: K3's - Manf. 2012 MT90 - Manf. 2014 Now given the age of these tyres, should I just bite the bullet and replace them off hand, or would it be safe to just run them down first and then replace them. The side walls on all of them look good, with no cracking or wear whatsoever.
