  1. If they have been caught and are in custody maybe they can be handed over to the MTB community for a few hours. There are some people who would like to talk to them and educate them as to the ill effects of being rude by pointing a gun in someones face and helping themselves to whats rightfully not theirs. I for one would like to teach him the err of his ways. Glad Malcolm is ok, been there experienced that and not pleasant at all.
  2. There was more but it didn't post not sure why.
  3. I agree with all of this. and an extra cent. Should we not take a page out of the proverbial book for preventing collisions at sea but simplified? The manoeuvrability is key here. Going up should move as we do already. It is easier to stop and move than coming down at a speed where stopping distance is increased. A runnner has way more manoeuvrability than a bike and should give way.
  4. Raced a BMW F800 a couple if times but from 1 black bike to another is what I want.
  5. Before and after! Just sold this baby.
  6. Whilst I agree rogue is not acceptable, there are many people that do not want to purchase an annual fee for various reasons. Hence the need for day permits, there is no reason why they cant work and help keep people in the sport. Conties is simple - sign indemnity with details, pop money in box and off you go. Why should this be a problem anywhere else. I think Lebanon was the same with an addition of a plastic sleeve with a number on it which had to be written on the indemnity form to help prove payment. What I don't understand is why when I have paid, some oke, who has his Tygerberg board on, does not have the courtesy to stop and ask me where mine is, instead shouts as he rides past saying where is your board. Screw you dumbass, I paid for my ride and my indemnity is in my pocket. I obeyed every rule that was set out for me. If you think someone is rogue as a member you have the right to ask them for their indemnity or to leave the trail. If you don't want to spoil your ride by stopping and asking then leave me to ride in peace!
  7. The difference is we are able to do something about it via this forum, barring stopping your vehicle and telling the person to stop what they are doing and concentrate on driving, there is no forum that will get to that person. We do however have a Traffic Dept who should be doing just that, but don't get me started on motorists, this is not about them, it is about us who ride bicycles, for whatever reason.
  8. Yes the wording was intentional, however I do not know the people involved and with the possibility of 50 or more riders I am pretty sure the LBS may not be too concerned about it. Again I state the intention is to make people aware and maybe with the wording someone will know who to speak to and do there bit to keep our riding community safe. Also hopefully the person/people in the wrong will take it like a man and accept responsibility instead of shout and swear like many motorists who do something wrong and shout at the person who calls them out on it.
  9. Forum newbie - please explain, I have only posted 11 times not 7727 I am not new to cycling and this may be clutter to some but it continues to happen so maybe people need to be reminded of their own stupidity. Take the Cape Town incident where the riders got frustrated in Sea Point and attacked the driver and passenger, riding 3 or 4 abreast taking up a whole lane.
  10. Understandable to a point but that will be those people on their high horse that I was talking about. Am I allowed to go and make my own bowl of popcorn?
  11. Why do cyclists always complain about how close a car comes to them, when passing, but yet they are willingly to put their lives in danger? Yesterday on my way back from a ride just after 10am, I was driving along Parklands main in Blouberg. A row of cars came up behind a group of 10 odd guys on MTB's, wondering what the motorist was doing, I was looking up ahead and watched as the group rode half next to each other, half behind and some even 3 up, "totally oblivious" to the cars behind them.I watched as half the group ramped the pavement and the other half swerved into the road, without so much as a glance over their shoulder, to overtake a MyCiti bus parked in its normal parking/stop area. It took some time before the one vehicle attempted to pass with no oncoming traffic, but not knowing what the cyclists were going to do, the driver did not want to take a chance. After about 100m I hooted to which the reaction from the group was to look around in shock and suddenly make an effort to fall in line. All the cars passed safely with no further delay or issue. Why oh why, on R40 - R100k bikes in our Specialized gear, do we ride so selfishly and irresponsibly? The 1m rule is not there to be abused by riding abreast and irritating other road users to the extent that I will bear the brunt of a motorist who has had enough of obnoxious groups of cyclists who bitch and moan at them because they are so vulnerable. Wake up people, you are solely to blame if you ride like an idiot. If you hear someone shouting out to ride in single file, its probably me, stay off your high horse and do it. Talk after the ride over coffee, for goodness sake. Disclaimer: I do not know the people involved. It is of no use to request they are contacted by "their" LBS, so this topic is intended to single out us riders and make sure that we start to educate ourselves and our fellow riders properly before we lose someone due our own stupidity. PS. Edited for spelling
  12. D spank him on just one ride making sure he does not see the blood pouring out your ears or face or legs
  13. That is a very nice looking bike. I will pick up the Roubaix today and give it a bash. That "granny gear" is most likely going to be troublesome to me aswell.
  14. So then a 2013 Roubaix (105) with a few hundred km's for R16k is not a bad buy at all.
  15. Thanks for the reply. Sorry if the topic bores you to death but it is important to us getting into the sport especially those who cannot throw R30k at an "entry level" race bike. Its neither my thought nor is it a suggestion not to ride, however it is a reality. Not being able to buy a duel sus 29er like so many have told him to and by saying don't waste your money on a 26er will mean not riding until he can buy one. As for the duel sus I have already replaced a rim on the HT because I landed badly on a jump i did not mean to or want to go over, so there is a lot to the decision. If there are other topics with these discussions please point us there.
  16. Hey Hubbers So the wheel debate has been going on and has even moved past the 26" to 27.5". A friend and I have debated, discussed, asked and been told all sorts of advice on what bike to buy. Following the unwritten rules of size, type of riding and wheel size, we are still in a dilemma. A L or XL 29er seems to be the best option for wheel size, both of us between 1.85m and 1.95m tall and weighing 105 and 100kg's respectively. He has ridden a good spec duel sus 26" carbon on a few trails in Tokai while I have a 29" HT with average spec. We both seem to be liking the trails especially the single track and I ride to work a few days a week. Thought that would be more what I would do hence the HT now thinking to add duel sus 26er to my options. The big question is budget: 1. Does he buy a good spec 2nd hand 26" for about R10k now considering the price of a 29er if it means being able to ride and maybe upgrade a year from now? Or wait and buy a 29er later when he has the budget for a 15-20k bike but then does not ride until then. 2. Do I buy a 26" duel sus as a second bike or sell the HT add some cash and buy a duel sus 29er or keep the Rockhopper for now? 3. Where can we get test bikes in CT where we can ride them back to back on a decent trail so as to get a proper idea of how we feel on the various sizes vs the riding experience? ie. I ride one half way up come down and swap do the same thing. I think neither of us know the trails/bikes well enough to ride them on different days and be able to make an informed decision. What say you?
