  1. Hope for a speedy recovery to Christo G. We also cycled past the incident on our training ride coming from the front. It really looked bad when he was on the stretcher with the paramedics attending to him.
  2. We goping for the Audax 300km ride. good luck to all that is doing it.
  3. agree mtb are about getting dirty but also one don't really want to damage your bike with the excess of mud on the route. Look at a picture earlier in the thread and that was from 2017 where it was really bad
  4. then chase him and do it to him also or are a Spez to fast?
  5. To be honest, i'm a bit sad that I was not at the event. Thought there will be a lot of mud and not looking forward to clean my bike, so gave it a skip. Big mistake from my site.
  6. sounds like they did improve a lot, not sure why people then complaining about the water shortage. Just make sure you do have extra water with you on the ride. 2 bottles or 1 bottle with a camel back Just heard that their was issues with the timing especially the top places. I did pick up directly that the person that did get the 1st place on the results must have been in correct, was soon after corrected
  7. Pitty I did not enter. Sounds like there was not alot of mud, damn missed out.
  8. every team aims for different outcomes. What makes the DC and Double 90 so nice It's all about the team tactics and who to sacrifice and when. For the mix guys it is so important to project and shelter the girls correctly.
  9. they are a bunch of good guys and gals still. Despicable because they won you guys? lol just teasing
  10. the Sandton bunch wont be happy that they are called from Brakpan okes lol. Sure you will come right at the end
  11. lol Mixed martial arts. Maybe look in Brakpan, sure you will find a few that can whip most asses but not in the cycling front lol Just a difficult time of the year. Myself and gf would have def been interested but not to sure if im strong enough as im no Magnus lol
  12. thanks not insured. Just taking the bit extra I can get.
  13. do you need that transporter thing that you can get from Tiger Wheel and Tyre? I don't have it and only started using the Insurance last week. On the vitality app they do say I achieved 2 x 100kms incident free drives. Will these count? This is meant only on the open period they have.
  14. last time I had an issue with my HR monitor belt I took it to Navworld and said they don't do any repairs or replacements anymore. It goes straight through Garmin now. I took it straight to Garmin in Rosebank, JHB to get it sorted but not nearly as helpfull as NAVworld was
  15. this past few weeks it was tough in the South with all of the wind. The later you wanted to sleep in the stronger the wind got for you It already looks good for the next up coming race, R4V with only 7kph in NE direction and sunny
  16. mmm that's impossible to say currently last year, some complained about the wind but can;t remember that their was alot of wind, just a bit of head wind on the stretch at Suierbosrand
  17. Not real J. Just from the start I said I wont do it anymore because of the pre-ride I did. But yes it is correct about the VA's, more that the VA's don't race as hard anymore as they used to no matter if they unfit or not. In general the people that do know me will see that I race a lot less now a days but def working on to get back where I where always. Seems like I was a bit wrong of the organizers of the event but there where a few situations that did occur. As most of the races you do find it but it could have still turned out ugly, that's really glad it did not.
  18. they where commenting on this thread so sure they can read or did already read it
  19. I don't think one can't actually base anything from years back as all has changed from temperament, tolerant, etc to others and with the amount of incidents. People in general just don't worry about others around them anymore as in the old days. Unfortunately its a sad truth but in no way does this not mean that races can't be held. I do think that the route planning was done incorrectly and everything was a rush decision on marketing the event and announcing it before even an route is confirmed and the necessary permission is granted. I'm also not convinced that the whole route was cycled ( by the organizing committee) before the time to make sure that most is correct. Agree totally that we as cyclist will most of the time encounter problems on the road with motorist, pedestrians and road conditions but also one need to think about when planning an event that the groups will not be 2 - 5 riders but in some cases it will be more than 100 riders in a group. That makes a huge difference on how to approach everything Agree that 8km is not a lot but for from other reports and post I read of inaccurate distances it did become an very sour feeling cyclist had of an event.Just also on the last 12km to the finish from top of Samrand, if it is an headwind then the slight downhill (only really fast section is down Lenchen) will not help. Yes it's part of racing but with proper planning and informing participants they do know what to expect and not get the unexpected surprise that they did 92% of the race and not 100% as they expected and planned for to ride. I do really hope that this event will be successful but just at this stage i'm not convinced.
  20. after riding the route yesterday. Decided not to enter. It will be fine for our racing cat but the open groups in the Wierdapark area will encounter a lot of trouble with traffic as the road at the Spur region has a very small shoulder and the traffic circles. Not to mention even the area around Diepsloot where you turn left with heavy vehicles and taxis using the road with no shoulder for most part. Just also bad taste to use the saying "full closure for racing groups" We also get it in races with the metro, etc around us. Just a bad marketing strategy done by die organizers. The route is not 87km but 95km roughly. We started at centurion mall and ended there. Skipping the small start and finish section. It makes a huge difference for people especially the ones that just want to finish the race after a lot of challenging sections and most possibly dangerous sections with the traffic they will encounter. Again the bulk of entries will not even get the benefit of a safe race after it was pushed as a safe race with road closures. Bad taste from the organizers
  21. I use the race chamy (can't remember what they call it) from Panda. Been riding and training in them for over 2 years now. Did more than 25k since between the 3 kits and they still good and feel comfortable to do 5 hours plus rides with it. They cost me less than 600 per bib
  22. mixture between the old Carnival City route and Old Emperors route in reverse will be interesting to see how certain sections will be done "restricted traffic zones". Still well done on all and great to see how you guys try to improve developing riders
  23. still waiting for the route confirmation before I will enter. Hope it will be a good route but just a bit worrying that an event is a go ahead without approval from the authorities to use the road. Possible Le-Tape coming up again?
  24. also heard that the race was a complete f up!!! 1. the water points was non existent especially for the front runners as the support vehicles of the race organizers could not get quickly enough to it 2. the tog bags was not there on time. for new clothing, supplement replenishment for much needed nutrition. 3. close to the end the gpx file indicated to go straight through a high game fence and the MC did not announce that they must not go over it. Proof been provided that it was not mentioned 4. check out was not done and thus organizers could not confirm where all of the cyclist might be on route. Just imagine if an search party must have been sent out. In the cold people lives was at risk if it happened. This is totally unacceptable. 5. route markings was poorly done even if an gpx file was available. Can't blame drunk people for it. possibly easy way out. Would actually love to know how many support staff was on route to help with all that was lacking.
  25. dalk n draai weer by Bosveld fees gaan maak
