  6. I think just one or two are missing from Myles' list, the Rocky Mountain bikes have really good options and This Way Out offer really good prices on them, and for 60k you can then upgrade them to your preference if you like. Depending what your definition of a trail bike is and what wheelsize you prefer they have the Instinct 950MSL, Thunderbolt 750MSL and the Altitude 750MSL. Really nice bikes with quite complete setups, I'd definitely consider one!
  7. Can anybody explain why Damean Oosthuizen wasn't selected? I haven't seen or heard more from anyone else in the junior road racing scene than him. Saw an article on facebook about him, he's gotten podium at every race he's entered and on national level as well. If i remember correctly his argus time was 2:39. It doesnt make sense to me how somebody with that talent isn't there? Maybe writing matric exams in that time period, but other than that it's ridiculous to not have him there while there are other names that aren't even heard of.
  8. I always use clean green and a lot of scrubbing with a coarse cloth, obviously not to an extent to damage the grip so be careful with how hard you scrub it.
  9. Single speed conversion kit, should be available at your lbs. You remove your cassette and derailer and put on a cog at the back with necessary spacers you get with the singlespeed kit, and also then put on a chain tensioner. Very simple operation. Shouldn't cost more than R400 to get decent single speed parts.
  10. My timing was spot on to my garmin. Really a great event and was very well organised, besides the above mentioned fact that there were no marshalls at the starting gates, but I'm sure that didn't ruin the race for anyone. Does anybody know if all of the trails used in the race are open to the public? And if they are is it part of a conservancy/reserve where you need to buy a permit?
  11. I saw 3 bikers also ripping through single track other side of Eden/Paradyskloof forest, as we got closer they went the other way so i couldnt identify them, unfortunately its a bit hard to identify people on motorbikes with full kit on. I wasnt aware they went through g spot, right after all the rain, I cant believe people could be so stupid and inconsiderate.
  12. Agree with what they've said, definitely consider the stumpy. The camber is for a good balance between xc and trail riding. Although I think if anyone is going to spend that money on a bike you should at least ride it first, if you go down to the specialized stellenbosch shop (judging by the places you said you like to ride) and ask if you can test ride your options they do have all your options in the shop I'm sure they will be happy to help then you can get a feel of which you would like best.
  13. It's as simple as this, you spend a considerable amount of money on a bike then you should be informed or you should at least do effort to find out the terms of your warranty. You took 2 YEARS to report this, you should have known your warranty expired. Specialized cannot give every guy who comes in and asks for a warranty a new bike, there is no proof that the bike was taken good care of, if you buy a car and notice when you're at home it has a dent in and then wait 2 years to take it back and inform the dealers, they are obviously going to deny your claims. Even if the other bikes stored in the same room did not corrode that means nothing, how sure are you that the corrosion didn't occur due to you not drying off your bike properly after a wash? Or maybe a leak in your bike room causing moisture on the frame?
  14. A big problem I have experienced is marking on the route, specifically for mtb. More than enough route markings are always good and make sure there is more than one arrow showing a turnoff, as its easy to miss in a race! Good luck for the event(s)!
