  1. Try Dirtwash - Disc Brake Cleaner Spray. It's R125 @ CWC.
  2. Been riding with the Shimano 540's for 3 years now, no problems. You can adjust the tension on them which is nice. I prefer to ride with low tension to get my feet out for the occasional unplanned stop.
  3. Mine did the same on a new rotor and disk pads, took the bike to CWC and they cleaned the rotor for me. Noise and vibration gone. Must say it's not nice going downhill with brakes squealing like nails on a black board.
  4. So it's still cheaper to join Tygerberg MTB club for R250 per year and the Contermanskloof permit for R350, total R600. And you can make use of the green belt from Majik to Hillcrest.
  5. He's obviously a firm believer of the motto: "If all else fails, use a BIGGER hammer"
  6. Agree, the Louis Garneau Evolution are very nice.
  7. Used a pair of Diadora MTB shoes for 10 years - no knee problems. Replaced them with Shimano MTB shoes, now my knee and ITB is acting up. Shimano shoes sole is pressing against the pedal and prevents the float on the cleat to work freely, thinking about doing some artificial wear and tear.
  8. It looks real funny to have roasties only on your fingers after using your hands to stop yourself and the bike
  9. There's more than one Plentipotential out on the road. Wonder sometimes if the roadies hands are glued to the handle bars?
  10. the quality of the rim has absolutely nothing to do with how well a wheel is build. JB will give you a lifetime warrantee on his wheels that he build with those rims. Remember' date=' each rim has its own limits. For example, you can not expect a lightweight wheel/rim to handle drop-offs and jumps.[/quote'] I agree, the wheel build is important. Although the quality of the different parts will play a role (rim / hub / spokes).
  11. I have DRC MT17 on my second set of wheels used for training. They work pretty OK for XC riding. Only had to re-align them once so far in 3 years. Don't think they will handle any serious drop-offs / jumps though?
  12. The RavX works just as well.
  13. I agree. Also do my price comparisons using CRC, but in more than 70% of the cases my local LBS (CWC ) is cheaper and it is a lot easier to get service from them if something is not to my satisfaction - AND so far I have only received very good service from them.
  14. I've been riding with contact lenses for more than 10 years. No issues. Sunglasses helps to keep most of the direct wind out of your eyes - wind tends to dry your eyes out quicker with contacts in. Did the Ama Rider 100 miler - with all the rain you could not see through sunglasses and even then the contacts worked fine.
  15. Depends on what you want to use it for, the Polar is very nice, but as far as I know it does not have GPS.
  16. Been running Kenda SB8 (UST version) for 18 months now. No issues, nice tyre. Rear one almost needs replacement +/- 3000km. Can probably get another 500km out of it
  17. Camelback M.U.L.E- can fit everything in that you need.
  18. This is for the Fox 32 FRL from the manual: So you weigh 60kg, that's 132lbs (according to Google). The specs states:125 - 135 lbs. = 50 psi Then you have to check the sag, to much increase pressure with 5psi increment. To little decrease with 5psi. If you do 60kg = 60psi, don't know if there will be any sag at all - sounds like a rather bumpy ride to me
  19. What is the best way to fix/connect the chain after swopping it? Use one of the SRAM connectors or just break it on any pin and fix the pin in again?
  20. The url that Splat supplied in his post did the job. (http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/08/eng/2008_om_eng.htm) It is a link to there Help/Support website for their 2008 products - exactly what I was looking for. This link http://www.foxracingshox.com/fox_tech_center/manuals.htm will give you all the manuals from 2000 - 2009.
  21. Thanks for this. I was looking all over to found this info, mislaid my manual for the Fox shock somewhere.
  22. Got myself a pare of Tacx (T4050) jockey wheels with sealed bearings. +/- R100 for the set. I'll try them and see how long they last.
  23. I think I will have a look at my LBS over lunch and see what the prices are. Seems KCNC is more about the bling than any better performance?
  24. Did a search for this but couldn't find anything on the forum, so here goes... Need to replace the deraileur pulleys on my XT deraileur - what to buy? I know KCNC are favorites. Are they that good or will BBB/Shimano do the same job?
  25. Just finished cleaning the bike. Seems I'll be needing new set of disk pads front and back, there's nothing left. No wonder the brakes where making those funny sounds towards the end. The derailleur pulleys and chain is probably also on the list for replacement. Yes, the rain was hard enough to sting like crazy. Cape Storm Stratos jacket kept me dry for about the first 5km. After that it only kept me reasonably warm (read just above hypothermia). Still, great race. Will do it again.
