  1. I have spoken and received lots of advice from Hubbers who import Chinese carbon frames and how to avoid paying tax for importing "Gifts". Some okes even resell on the hub. Lets not start a raid on here about what is moral or not. This can even end up as a political debate if you want. DIPSLICK, Do as you please. I love using my real name on forums as it keeps me responsible for what I say. I might not always make sense or be correct. Unfortunately due to some people acting like asses I no longer associate myself with my place of work as people feel their anonymity vs my openness should and must give them an advantage.
  2. Jup me think so too. And the Swedish Krona is also not that bad against the ZAR. R1 will buy you Kr 0.65. My brother stays there and that makes everything so much easier. He comes over every second year and our family goes to visit there regularly. Myself has never gone but have received an ultimatum to come visit.
  3. Does anyone have experience bringing in a bicycle you bought on a overseas trip and bringing it in as luggage. Does customs check the bicycle or does one have to declare it to customs. Is it possible to pretend you took it with in the first place or is the best just to pay up. I have a beaut in Sweden waiting to come make love to SA trails. http://www.blocket.se/helsingborg/Cube_stereo_120_hpc_race_29_53526414.htm?ca=23_11&w=3
  4. Sounds interesting. Send me an IM if you are sure you are going to do something from there
  5. I go as far as Rooihuiskraal but go straight back east from there. And only get there at 05:30
  6. Thought so about the liver! Was more a joke. I think one I get to race at a faster pace I will re look my affair with gels. Then I'll probably also not need to use so much of them if my ride is shorter in time.
  7. At some Fruit and Veg stores they butter the nuts while you wait and you can choose the nut type and actuall nuts
  8. I agree that everyone is different. But it takes constant awareness and testing to find what works for you and then some more as even your own body can change over time. Therefore this form helps. I have lost 14 kg's thus far this year and most not on LCHF. But rather something similar. LCHF has helped me break a plateau and I have also realized that LCHF is not a protein fest and that has helped me break that plateau. I have also in the past used the sugary stuff and bars on the road and got stomach cramps after 5 hours on the road. I also went through sugar crashes which were worse than bonks. Now without sugar I don't seem to reach my limits.
  9. Now I want to ask a stupid question. If like me you are a regular drinker. No I do not have a problem. I might or might not have an enlarged liver. Do I store more glycogen? Then is it better to start off with a good meal +- an hour before a race and then get the factory started or rather try on demand sugars just before you run out of energy? Or maybe a low concentration of carbs from the moment the race starts to avoid taking high concentrates later on. Edit: I have no experience in stage racing but for normal racing do not go empty the body of glycogen the previous day or even two if you have not adapted your body to deal with that through long extensive training for multiple day riding and metabolism. And for F sakes nothing will work without proper hydration. Rehidrat is for before the race not after the race.
  10. Yup. Awesome ride for the City. And you can cycle there and back. Or like others you can pack the braai.
  11. I'd like one for city riding but I doubt I'll use it on the trail. And only if it works with a helmet.
  12. My biggest concern is that thing going off on a near fall and then actually causing a fall.
  13. I found this on the web. Have anyone ever tried one before or even seen or heard about it. http://www.hovding.com/ What do you think
  14. Who has still not tried Wolwespruit? Adrenalin Rush of note. A must do.
  15. I stay in Pretoria that's like a different continent.
  16. If you see a guy there with a blue cycle shirt say cheers. A friend wants me to go but I do not know if my wife will travel alone with the baby. And if I cycle home the moment would have passed.
  17. Another thing I realized while cycling in Kleinzee last December in the wind. If it is from behind in the heat you do not have the cool down factor that normal wind resistance offers and it starts getting hot quickly.
  18. Would you say a heavier guy with more power will do better than a skinny guy with less power into the wind. Is it about cadence or power??
  19. Now that is a plan. Kite cycling. I can see the headlines in the newspaper. Disaster
  20. Or Alexanderbaai. Now that would be a stage race to consider. Enough gravel and mountains to do it too.
  21. Die vrou gan vir my lag oor daai een
  22. Yup this year they are on Q here in Gauteng. This morning the wind was howling and thank my behind I was not cycling. Doing my usual route would have seen me very late for work. Hill training has it's benefits, right. How beneficial is it to train in wind. Seeing as time is limited I know that my distance will go down in the next few weeks if it continues to blow outside. Wanted to do my 130 km tomorrow but fear that dream might just fade away when I wake up tomorrow. How do you guys handle the wind and training.
  23. And now they are making Amstel Lite. Who ever saw that oom at Gilroys down two pints during his speeches. He certainly enjoys his career and product.
  24. If the BOSS MAN knew I was debating weight on here I will soon weigh very little.
  25. It depends. At van gaalens I gained lekker on the uphills but that decent had me bruised and later walking. After the 3rd tumble I was so paranoid even if I walked I fell down. I think it is all in relativity. You at least need to be able go down at a decent speed. While at that point one also need to discuss weight vs. reliability. Having mechanical problems might just put on much more time than you'd save using lightweight components. Also If you weigh a lot go for components that can support the strain in pedaling uphill and the shock of going fast downhill.
