  1. Good discussion here. I too have recently started looking into coaching, but alas have not found a coach that I trust will take my cycling to another level. I wish I had the opportunity to train with a pro cycling team for 6-8weeks and have full exposure to all their specific training programs. However, working 40hours a week and some weekends, kinda makes it futile. Trying to be competitive in a race while carrying the responsibilities of work and family life is crazy, yet many of us get it right. So perhaps we are the ones who need cycle life coaches to help us stay on top of our game, without popping. Where one would find that coach? Who knows!
  2. Good reviews considering there is one selling on the hub for R8k I think.
  3. http://www.totalcycling.com/en/Contact-Us/cc-2.aspx Has anybody bought stuff from these guys? Total additional costs for shipping to SA?
  4. Here is what it says on the discovery website You can earn up to 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fees up to a maximum spend of R3 000 each quarter, and up to R12 000 in a calendar year. This means you can earn up to R1 500 cash back (50% of R3 000) in a quarter, and up to R6 000 a year. To qualify for cash backs on race registration fees, please take note of the following: The event must be one of the selected, timed events on the Team Vitality race calendar that qualifies for either a 25% cash back or a 50% cash back. You must have completed the event. You must be a Team Vitality member at the time the cash back is awarded. You will get up to either 25% or 50% cash back on the pre-race registration fee only (the cash back does not apply to the additional fee if you register late or to T-shirts, promotional items, donations, temp licenses, etc.). Visit ‘Claim points for outdoor sporting events’ on our website. Choose the event and fill in your race number, finishing time and other details. Follow the instructions to claim your points for the race. Cash back will be awarded after you complete the online form and we can verify that you have completed the event.
  5. I was referring earlier to the Tacx Neo Smart - looks just like the kickr https://www.tacx.com/en/products/trainers/neo-smart
  6. Tacx just released a "kickr" derivative. I wonder what its like. All I know is that it costs more, and its blue. Here's the link https://www.tacx.com/en/products/trainers/neo-smart
  7. does anybody know if there is a group ride on Saturday planned to go from Stellenbosch to Somerset West to Grabouw to Franschhoek to Pniel and back to Stellenbosch - 140 km I'm keen - but would prefer cycling in a group for safey
  8. I think the race should have just been cancelled altogether. No point in wasting money on infrastructure and paying people to support a 47km race for 35000. Take the money from entries and donations and support the City of Cape Town and all the brave men and woman fighting the fires. Next year the Cycle Tour committee can offer entries to all who have entered this year at 50% of the costs - or some reasonable discount. We are all still coming to Cape Town - we will cycle on the weekend - and we will support the city of Cape Town.
  9. Where is it ok to ride in Cape Town and surrounds?! I've paid for plane tickets - car hire - hotel accommodation - bike transportation. I'm gonna make it worthwhile come flames, ash, damaged roads, smoke inhalation .... Bla bla bla
  10. no no no no no no no no no... Thinking.... 130km coffee ride Saturday?! 150km coffee ride Sunday?! Where and what direction?!
  11. What about routes outside Cape Town? Stellenbosch perhaps or up the west coast? Race or no race - I'm gonna cycle.
  12. Been using canis on back and racing Ralph in front. Both had the same amount of distance on. Onza, is way more durable than racing Ralphs. Just replaced front with new canis. Grip and rolling resistance is awesome. Wouldn't use anything else.
  13. I have been cycling for about 2 years. Started competing in mtb marathons in the last 6 months. I recently started getting a pain in my left knee that only appears when I pedal (downstroke). I have had acl repairs done 9 years ago and thought its probably related to that. However, the pain only occurs when I pedal and not when I run, walk, play soccer, etc. I have been taking anti-inflammatory medicine, voltaren gels, and none seem to be getting rid of the problem. I have never had a bike fitment.
  14. I recently bought 29er 2.25 Maxxis Ardent EXC, LUST, UST/Tubeless (written on tyre sidewall). I bought these tyres from Cyclelab - Lynwood for 139.00 R . No jokes, R139.00!!!!! I'm a little worried if they would work in a "tubeless ready" setup. I do not have stans UST type rims. Ive been riding with Racing Ralphs, tubeles conversion, in the front - which look trashed after about 1500km. Any comment about the price of these tyres? and whether they would work in tubeless conversion.
