  1. Did you also get the e-mail for the medical questionaire? I tried to fill it in but the site keeps crashing
  2. Eddy Merckx said 'ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel, but ride!"
  3. Man, why do you think I follow this topic? I want to see seven hundred and sixty nine thousand eight hundred and twenty and seventy five thousand pictures of chappies!
  4. Do you have a drone to take these pictures? They're great!
  5. Compared to the rest of our 3 week journey to/in SA, the CTCT is an expensive day. It's even expensive by European standards. But what an experience! The memories are forever and priceless....if you can afford them :-) PS. The rand is remarkably lower then last year. Last time it was around 7,5€ for 100 ZAR, now it's only 6.6. Big difference on our total spending. Bad news for you though (:-(
  6. Thanks! That's what I think when I see all these pics from SA ;-) 7° my friend, 7°....
  7. I'm trying to train for the CTCT but it's cold here in the north. I cut my ride to 40 instead of 60km.I Should've brought my wind breaker. The fall colors make up for a lot.
  8. They are the ones who are fully booked already. Now I know why ;-) But it's cool, I got a reply from the other company. Last time I rented a MTB because I just started riding a road bike. Looking forward to riding a road bike this time!
  9. Thanks for the advice but bringing my own bike is also quite expensive. And after staying in CPT, we fly to JNB and have another 2.5 weeks for a roadtrip. It would be a lot of hassle of taking my roadbike along. I won't have much other opportunities to ride it after the CTCT. So it's a lot easier if I can drop the bike after the race. When we're staying in Drakensbergen, we will rent MTB for a day or so. We were in CPT last year, and I did a short ride. As a European and a regular cyclist, I still found it daunting to ride in Cape Town. Also, hubby doesn't cycle as much and I didn't want to venture to far out of town on my own as a woman after reading of the robberies here. we're staying in Tamboerskloof (close to the start) in an airbnb rental, where we stayed last year as well. Lovely host and great location.
  10. I'm e-mailing companies to rent a road bike for the CTCT. 1st one is fully booked, 2nd charges 3500ZAR, 3th charges 4500ZAR, I kid you not! That's completely ridiculous. I e-mailed another one who charges 2500ZAR, which I find reasonable. Waiting for his reply.(2500ZAR is about the same amount what we pay for our accommodation in CPT, weird!)
  11. My first and only CTCT (so far!) was the fire ride so I don't think those times count :-) I grew up in Ronse, next to Oudenaarde! I live 60km further away now. Weather in April can be anything from freezing to nice and sunny.....
  12. I just signed up as an international rider for my 2nd tour. Does any one have an idea what the starting time for internationals could be? Let's hope there are no fires this year so I get to do an actual full CTCT! I didn't ride as much this year, we had a shitty spring, just pouring rain rain and more rain from january til april-may. We had a lovely autumn until last week and now we're back to cold rain (6°...) . I still hope to be in shape by march, very much looking forward to it!
  13. You might be right. But I'm very insecure now since the last 2 times didn't go to well. Although, I did see some real improvement for the first time yesterday. He was really relaxed without the cone, slept on my lap for about 2 hours, and he looked angry at his tail bit but left it alone.... If he continues like this for the next days, I will let him go out again. here's a video of him from a few years ago, look at that beautiful thick fluffy tail (on a side note: if I ever get that son of a you-know-what who set out that trap....he'd better go running) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WELIrvOgD1o
  14. Here's our poor cat with his cone and the little tail....
  15. PS. Sorry for the typo's. I hate typing on a tablet!
  16. Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice. It's a a bit of a story: 3 months ago, my cat came home with the top of its tail bleeding. The wound was from a trap. The vet had to amputate the tip, we want to save his lovely fluffy tail. After a week, the bandage came off and he immediately attacked his tail. This led to a new open flesh wound. We had to put a cone on for 2 months to let that heal. The week before Xmas, it looked completely healed, even some hair started growing. So we thought it time to take of his cone..... but the poor cat was absolutely terrified of its tail. He hid himself in a dark corner and once again bit it's tail open.... at this point, the vet and I decided to amputate most of the tail. This way, we could start with a new clean scar, the skin at the bottom of his tail is thicker and more difficult to reach. Ok, so now his tail or what is left, has healed beautifully. So we!re again at the point where the cone can come off. With his cone on, he's pretty happy and relaxed. You can touch his tail bit, it doesn't seem to hurt. Only when he sees it from the corner of his eye, he wants to grab it. Now when we take the cone off, he's not as terrified anymore but the little stump scares him. He sometimes tries to bite but at least he doesn't wound himself anymore. But when he sees it, he jumps up and runs away, he's afraid of himself. I try to comfort him as much as I can, giving him treats when I see he's afraid, lots of cuddles and attention. I've been doing this for a week now. I don't see much improvement. Is that too soon to expect? Any one tips on how to get him accept his tail bit? After 3 frustrating months, I want my macho cat back! He's been locked inside obviously, and he wants to conquer the garden again....
  17. our cat is going through a rough patch: 3 weeks ago, he came home with the top of his tail bleeding. He must have gotten stuck somewhere. The wound was about 2cm long with a bit of bone exposed so the vet had to amputate the last bit. So he came home with his tail wrapped up, and had to stay indoors for a week. One week later, she took the bandage off and the wound looked nice. Within the hour after returning from the vet, the cat managed to bite the wound completely open again... back to the vet, new bandage, returned 3 days later, the wound started to infect, yuk! At first, the vet thought about amputating a bit more but we decided to give it one more chance by giving him a cone and letting the wound dry and heal without a bandage. Fortunalty, this seems to work! After a few days, a big crust had grown on his tail. The vet then took the crust off to clean the wound. Now she wrapped his tail but with a mini-cone on the end. This way, the wound can heal "in open air" without getting too much dirt in it. so now our beautiful cat looks like this.... http://i60.tinypic.com/21oyfxd.jpg he's a very active outdoor cat, so keeping him indoors isn't fun. The vet expects this to last a few more weeks we don't want to take any risk that he bites his tail open again. Even with his both cones, he managed to pick at the bandages at his tail....
  18. beautiful picture! And I love your daughter's ginger hair!
  19. a friend of mine saved a dog that was running around on a busy highway, a beautiful Beagle. My friend saw her running, pulled aside, and started calling the dog. Luckily, the other drivers slowed down and stopped. And the dog came running to my friend. She's with her at the vet this evening, to check if she has a chip. The beginning of the holidays, I hope the poor dog wasn't dumped ....
  20. friday night and a heat wave here in Europe. I'm eating my lovely dinner when the cat comes in with a bird in its mouth, birdy still alive of course. So I'm trying to save the bird from the cat, bird goes flying around the room, shitting on my white wall. Luckily I can catch it and release it. It was still very capable of flying, pfew, so I hope it survives. This is the result.... http://i60.tinypic.com/2yvqulk.jpg

  22. took the bike to my mum's in Ronse, the area where the Tour of Flanders was yesterday. 72 km, the last 20 in the hilly areas between Oudenaarde en Ronse, It was around 7° en very gray weather. I suffered but made it home where a nice Easter dinner was waiting and a nice bottle of SA wine
