  1. SKLAR bikes This one won the North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2017 (NAHBS2017) http://reviews.mtbr.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/03-Skylar_nahbs2017_awards-7.jpg
  2. Since the Contraband become the SS, I have now converted my Salsa El Mariachi for bike-packing and gravel travel Still need to take pics . . . (been so sick that I have not had time to ride it since the conversion)
  3. Eric Barone also tried this and fell hos "gat af"
  4. Been looking for a steel Salsa Firestarter fork for a LOOOOOONG time. http://salsacycles.com/components/category/forks/firestarter_fork Going on my Salsa El Mariachi steel gravel grinder. Attachments mountings to fit all sorts of stuff for longer trips.
  5. So after Googling and reading this article (of which I understand only half) . . http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/ It seems if my schemes of mixing and matching will not work. Seem if I want to keep 1x11, with the MTB cassette at the back, some sort of SRAM group-set is the only way to go.
  6. http://mercerbikes.co.za/ "Mister Miyagi voice" You must practice Googling my son Quick Google: "Bicycles made in the USA" http://www.usalovelist.com/american-made-bikes-trikes-high-performance-ultimate-source-list/ Not even going to do a UK Google.
  7. Been pondering a Monster Cross. But I want to keep my 1x11 setup with 11-42T at the back. Long story in short. What road shifter/brake assembly will correctly shift a Shimano XT M8000 rear derailleur? (Perhaps this have been covered so pardon me for asking again.) I know buying a SRAM Force CX1 drive train will be bomb, but costs makes it a no-go option. Is my reasoning wrong? 1.) Shimano Road different pull ration than Shimano MTB (unless you match 10 or 11 speed road with old 9-speed derailleur (before Dyna-Sys) or something like that. 2.) SRAM road and SRAM MTB pull ratio the same. So that will work. 3.) Is Shimano MTB and SRAM MTB pull ratio the same? I think so. Here is possibly my biggest assumption and flaw. 4.) So then a SRAM 11-Speed Road Shifter will correctly shift a Shimano 11-Speed XT rear derailleur? Something like a SRAM Apex shifters on this Salsa Fargo Build. http://salsacycles.com/bikes/fargo/2017_fargo_rival_27.5plus 5.) And then one can buy "megafters" that you fit to the derailleur to make the pull ratios the same. http://www.jtekengineering.com/shiftmate/ Is Nr. 4 a possible option? Advice from those who have been down this road?
  8. Since you been out of cycling for a while. 26ers are gone. We ride 29ers now . . . .. Welcome back on the bike. Best of luck, we'll be watching,
  9. You will cause some serious arrhythmia with some Hubbers posting stuff like that!!! Nice.
  10. Was the average speed because of the wind or the beer at Tiger Reef? Nice pic
  11. Now that is schmaart!! That is a collectors item!.
  12. With the chorus of Radiohead's "Just" on repeat in my mind.
  13. True . . . very many uses. I am not arguing with you. But as an anti-emetic ? In a first aid setting at a race. Surely metoclopramide, cyclizine, promethazine, ondansetron is preferred anti-emetics available on the market in this context?
  14. R6000 saving!! This makes me very much malignant towards the local distributors/retailers. Good on you man. Enjoy it.
  15. Very nice photo's, some serious skill with the camera.
  16. Will definitely not mind a new, chromed Battaglin frame for a nice build.
  17. Sorry to read this. It makes me scared a bit. How do one guard against this possibility. Last thing I want to do is make my kids dislike cycling because of there overzealous "Ou Toppie" (This happened to me with regards to running at school, and I still dislike running till today) Though my little guy have all the cycling goods a 3 year old can possibly need, he is not very keen on it. He cycles for 100 meter then gets of and walk/run everywhere and I end up carrying his bike. (he loved cycling with me in the baby carrier on my bike, but he is to big for that now.) Though I am little bummed about it, I promised myself I'll never make him cycle if he does not want to. Am I maybe to eager? Any other Hub-advise from those that have been though it?
  18. Been a week or two since I finished this build. Must say I love the ride of this bike. It just to much fun and evoke a playfulness whenever I am on it. Nice and stable with the 120mm Reba upfront. Yet still nice, nimble and flick-able in runs. Was afraid about to much bouncing when out of the saddle but the handlebar lockout work good so far.
  19. Agree. I will definitely remove spacers. Looks a bit dodgy now!
  20. Thanks . . . . . It is a the Brooks Swallow. Not like any saddle I have ridden before. Feels very hard (I understand that). But definitely some pressure on some strange areas.
  21. Well . . . had a late night one last night. (see time stamp on post above) Shortening brake-lines, bleeding brakes, ext. Still need to get the handle bar height sorted. Get it lower. (Seems if I was a bit conservative with steering tube cutting) BUT ready for the weekend . . . here she is!! (some quick pics the morning)
  22. It's new. . . . Don't tell my missus
  23. All in good time . . . Obviously it will be steel. . . with an EBB . .
  24. Did not have much time last night to fiddle with the build. Bolted together some teasers.
  25. Meanwhile, north of the border, many stuffs finally came together for a new SS.
