I've seen videos of kids who look about 7 doing motox and have on these helmets that look hilarious because it makes them look like a bobblehead. but i do worry about the safety implications of such a big heavy helmet being supported by such undeveloped neck muscles and bones. Kali protectives have a theory (i dunno, its pretty logical, probably not a theory) that a thinner helmet produces less torque on your head/neck when it hits the deck, i think this could be a big issue for smaller younger riders. when helmet shopping take this into consideration, having something light, smooth (doesnt get caught on anything while sliding) and thin will make a massive difference how it handles the fall, there must be child specific lids out there that incorporate all this stuff, as the foam required to stop a a grown person's head safely will be like a rock when absorbing the energy of a 7yr old's head hitting the ground... good protective gear is expensive, and he'll probably outgrow it in about 15 minutes, but you only get one noggin, and it's worth taking care of.

I approve of this comment Sidenote: the mid spec one (pictured above) with a lyrik RC2 is absurd value for money It's important to note though that the tyres this comes with might need replacing with something heavier, so dont take it as 14.2kg, more like 14.6kg

washing the tyres would defy the whole point of the bike!

this is my Hardtail to replace the Artbike, by contrast this has no paint on it whatsoever the epitome of ride hard and put away wet, the lack of maintenance this requires is amazing, just pull it out the garage and go riding!

considering thats a factory 36 fit grip 2 and probably some expensive cranks that'd put it at about 45k for frame and shock alone, which, whille totally insane, puts it inline with other boutique brands like santa cruz, and cheaper than a yeti sb150 Edit: i think those are raceface aeffect cranks, which arent totally expensive actually, but still, 45k is about right

Last year my time down SS4 was Just over an hour... it was also by far the most expensive race stage ive ever done of any kind. So obviously this year i decided to help with timing.

I ordered my package last thursday, have been really impressed so far with their service. It was scanned into joburg on monday morning and midday monday it said that it was in transit, i assume to cape town... it has been in transit ever since, not yet scanned into cape town hub. At what point do they usually start messing with me? when should i be worried?

As much as that is on my shortlist of dream bikes (just like the evolink 140 was), I am weary of dirtmountainbike reviews. if its british its the best thing ever, and nothing is ever long, low or slack enough...

I did a Rondebosch to montague gardens commute twice last year (didnt have the willpower to wake up at 5am) anyway I actually couldnt carry enough food, your body becomes a black hole of snacks, it explains why the flash is always eating

I had the old durolux RC2 140-180TA I really liked it, not on quite the same level as the lyrik on the bike that replaced it though. it did everything pretty well (besides being heavy). it overforked the bike it was on by 20mm so i ran it sagged down to where it would be if i was running 160mm and it was extremely plush then, totally comparable to a pike i rode back to back against it, in fact it was smoother. strange thing though, when i got the lyrik it was way more composed in fast rock gardens. I'd be interested to give that new durolux a try, although that PB article is a bit slating. suntour's QSP (quick service product) thing is really cool though esp on the new high end stuff where you get grease ports to quickly lube up your seals!

if their old range is anything to go by, they still have to fit in the shova, shova LT and Mbuzi before things get all triple clampy... my guess is that the bike you were all hoping this to be is actually going to be the shova/shova LT, and then the mbuzi will be the one everyone will buy anyway because it'll be the closest to a dh bike.

Damnit morewood! All you needed to do was follow 3 simple steps Step 1: Look at Kona process geometry sheet Step 2: Copy that and make a 160(ish)mm bike with makulu style assisted single pivot Step 3: Profit but noooo instead theyre making a silverback mercury lookalike!

You take glitter, pour some (quite a lot) into a bowel, and mix in a about 50ml of engine oil, then stir until the glitter is all fully oiled up. then, in a second bowel, pour another 50ml of engine oil and then empty a 100ml tube of contact adhesive and stir until consistent. after that mix the 2 bowels together and divide between 2 tyres, if the mixture is too viscous, you can either add more engine oil, or a small amount of acetone, but not too much or the contact wont dry. once installed you have 10 minutes get your tyres seated and at the desired pressure, making sure to keep the tyres spinning to avoid pooling, but not so fast that your sealant doesnt reach the bead. Then bake at 180 until done. EDIT: I prefer engine oil instead of engine coolant as the tyre doesn't get hot enough to require it, only the likes of Josh Bryceland and Steve Peat really need to actually use the coolant EDIT No2: Do not attempt this with a stans WTB rim/tyre combo, you will break tyre levers!
