  1. I got sent a link to a charity site that collects shoeboxes full of goodies. Please take a look and see what you all think. Santa's Shoebox
  2. really nice looking! If you're ever short of ideas, get in touch with Eleanor Moseman, worth a feature.
  3. Lunchtime bump.
  4. i think 8 would be a good time. anyone else?
  5. i'm sure i can arrange for a a trailer or two at the stadium. could meet their, drop the toy off, have a cup of coffee and then do the ride.
  6. i guess that's the idea in a nutshell
  7. cool. will extend the invite then to Durban critical mass. It's still early days, but perhaps the Durban guys can get started by suggesting a route, as well as a childrens charity/s they'd like to recommend? The route I was thinking of starts off at the stadium, heads down to uShaka. A cup of coffee down there somewhere, followed by a ride to the point and then back.
  8. is this purely a hubbers event? not sure how many durban hubbers there are, otherwise I ws thinking of opening it to the Durban critical mass guys and friends?
  9. I'm game. a ride from along the beachfront would be nice, from blue lagoon to ushaka and back, it's about 6km's one way, so 12 in total. and if it's a good day like the last few days, should be plenty eye-candy of course could always ride through the city center, has a fascinating history. otherwise a ride in umhlanga beach front, though it may be a bit far to drive for some, including me.
  10. a mate emailed me from Washington DC, it was on the news there and her work-mates didn't believe it was real, they reckoned it was faked somehow! After being pointed to the twitter feeds and youtube and even the hub, they all keen apparently to come ride with the wild animals in the bush. Nice international exposure this
  11. just marketing speak for "we found another way to screw you". well seeing is believing...
  12. I remember attending to an accident scene years ago with two kids in the back that weren't buckled in, they were about 4 and 6 I think. Mom rolled the car doing 60km on a corner, was a nasty corner that has a negative camber. Everyone was all right in the end, no major injuries, but my commanding officer insisted we bring charges against the driver. Just under a year later she was found guilty of endangerment, reckless and negligent driving and ended up with a 2 year suspended sentence. On top of all that we had to inform child care services who then visited the home for months after. May not seem like much, but her legal fees were in the region of 50 grand and the time it took up and stress of the child welfare visits did take a major toll on the family. Personally I thought it was a little heavy-handed but then I don't have kids and my c/o was fed up with everyone.
  13. not sure how accurate this is, but I was told to expect temperatures of about 36 celcius if so, drink plenty guys and good luck!
  14. Just found this on one of the blogs I follow and pleased I did. Always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, truly inspirational. I remember also reading about a guy who rode around the world on a bike I think in the 1800's, he disappeared if I remember correctly though.
  15. Some tips... 1. it's 105km so unless you're going for a top ten finish, chill out! Enjoy the first cuple of k's headed downhill and be careful, lots of places to wipe out and hurt yourself. 2. Once you out the single track and onto the roads, find a nice bunch and settle into an easy pace for the first 50k's or so. 3. If you're feeling good, up the pace for the last 50. 4. It's going to be hot out there, drink as much as you can, and then drink some more. 5. Don't forget to eat, you're looking at 6 hours plus in the saddle (my first time was 9 hours) unless of course you're a demon and and do it in 4 hours or something equally ridiculous. 6. Enjoy. The route takes you through some awesome trails you don't normally get to ride, take some time to look around and have fun. 7. Don't forget supplies; pump, bombs, spare tubes (if you using), multi-tool, cellphone, rehydrate... it's a long day out there. 8. Dress in layers. First time I was freezing in the early morning, especially when stepping out the bus. By lunch time I was so hot I would've ridden naked if the rules allowed Can't think of anything else, just enjoy.
  16. wow that's nice i'm jealous!
  17. i'm looking for a half-link for a ss (bmx) chain, is there such a thing and where can I get from; Dangle you got?
  18. the route has to be spectator friendly, no start and finish in two different places, remember with any luck a number of international visitors will hopefully be here so they may not have a car to run around in and they wont know the area. Would be cool to be a lap type race, or a "clover-leaf" type deal so at least spectators get to enjoy the day as well. also please have it where there's good camping grounds, some of us are on a budget and wouldn't be able to pay for hotels at sun city and such.
  19. For the animal lovers... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNMq8XS4LhE oops, didn't realise it had already been posted on another thread, sorry about that
  20. here's a video of the day, and right at the end is the part where South Africa earns the right to host 2012... pretty sure i recognised usher, but not sure about the rest of the guys, looked like fun though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWf0qWNevXE why bloem? isn't it pretty flat, dry and brown there? I reckon it should be held in Karkloof, loads of hills, nice green and wet
  21. well done to him, with all the traveling and stuff and still coming 6th is fantastic.
  22. oh wow, that is easily the hottest bike i've ever seen...
  23. frigging awesome!
  24. Just saw a facebook post about SA winning the ss world champs. Did a south african rider win the race, or is south africa hosting for next year? anyone have any info?
