  1. I don't think so. As I understand it anodizing is like a stain, it adds nothing to the protection of an object, it's purely cosmetic, though according to wiki, anodized alu is stronger than un-anodized alu. My climbing equipment is anodized and the finish didn't last long at all, loads of scratches showing through. If you're happy to anodize, then you should rather powdercoat, it's the strongest paint finish available. And as for the worm holes, I've had 4 frames powder coated so far, 2 steel and 2 alu and I haven't had that problem? Sounds like maybe the prep wasn't as good as it could've been. Last frames cost me R120 to powdercoat each, and R60 to blast.
  2. the only problem with anodizing is that it's not the hardest wearing finish, it'll show signs of use pretty quickly (depending on how often you ride and how you ride). Powdercoating is a better option for mtb's, and you can get a clear powdercoat. With powder coating just take the time to seal up all your threads as the coating will add mm's on.
  3. I was going to order from singlespeed.co.za but got sidetracked by injury. Will order from them a bit later in the year when my new frame arrives.
  4. i reckon you should be fine provided you keep riding in a group of 3 or more at least.
  5. There used to be a guard hidden in the bushes about halfway along that dirt road, surprised the sh*t out of a couple of times by stepping out and saying hello. Along that road you can build up a nice bit of speed going into Giba so I would say it would be hard for them to stop you going in, going out though is a different story.
  6. I was doing a circle type ride, from hillcrest down stockville road, through westmead, along the dirt road where the highjacking occured, then riding through Giba and back out through Gaia.
  7. wow, I ride out of Giba that way almost every weekend, and mostly by myself! This is the first time I've heard of something like this at Giba in a few years! *sigh* just can't win.
  8. True but again surely that's his prerogative? And this is what I meant earlier, the media shouldn't be speculating, but reporting, at least this is my view on the media's role. Speculation is dangerous without evidence. Lance stands accused by his team mates of doping, why is the press not saying "prove it", otherwise it smacks of sour grapes. As I remember, not all doping authorities agreed with this and the juries's still out as to the validity of the micro-dosing.
  9. Fabiani as spokesman did what he could under the circumstances, what else can he do but deny. Reportage on this though I don't think has been balanced. Tyler Hamilton admits to doping and yet the press is more interested in the possibility of Lance doping. I think the press should be questioning Hamilton's motives far closer and asking him how Lance could have doped and never given in a positive sample.
  10. Fair enough, but then you should also report accurately on the number of tests he has undergone since the start of his career, as well as the number of positives/negatives he's had, to me that's fair and ethical, it presents both sides of the story. The accused also has the right not too reply, which could harm his reputation to some degree as well, in which case I would argue the journalist has an even deeper responsibility to present both sides fairly.
  11. Well I guess you'd have to examine the motives of the guy making the accusations. I would consider that ok, only if the other 3 riders were themselves clean and above suspicion. What does "Journalism Ethics 101" have to say on the matter?
  12. How can you report on something without some sort of corroboration? If you do, surely you're just slandering someone?
  13. Posted on Bike Hugger on the matter of George Hincappie's admittion of doping before a grand jury... If we’re going to really tackle the problem of doping in cycling we have to look at all the dopers, otherwise it’s a witch hutch. It doesn’t matter if Lance was dirty if we only focus on him and ignore those around him who also were dirty
  14. Lets all be honest here, the matter at hand is not whether Landis or Tyler took drugs, but rather whether Lance Armstrong did. At the end of the day we can speculate all we want, but in all those year of cycling and dope testing, Lance never once handed in a positive sample, this in spite of a blatantly hostile testing/governing body. The guys that admit it now, they're just looking for some attention and cash is all, they are a bunch of pathetic losers and dopers, and now we're supposed to believe them, after all their denials!? Please. Lance is the 'king' until proven otherwise. Everyone else can go whistle dixie.
  15. i've often ridden from hillcrest up to drummond and never had a problem. same as camerons, don't go into the valley by yourself. there's are rides that leave from cyclelab on friday and saturdays, just give them a call.
  16. I'm keen to get some stuff, when you planning on ordering?
  17. From "Unholy Rouleur"...
  18. cool thanks
  19. Hi guys, I'm pretty sure one of the hubbers here sells the On One bikes, anyone got a name for me. Thanks
  20. On my way back home from visiting a client, I stopped off at my favorite bike shop. He carries a lot of 2nd hand bikes of yesterday. In the back I found these two. The first... A Raleigh Pioneer Classic 5-Speed that's in far better condition than it looks. It's got all original stickers as well as the Raleigh badge still. The second... A Peugeot Record Du Monde that needs a bit more work than the other one. But still in good nick for the most part. The best part... R200 for both My nights are now sorted for a while.
  21. nice pic. how'd you take it?
  22. how about twisting admins arm and creating a "classic/retro" section instead of just this thread?
  23. I don't agree. I think our constitution is one of the strongest in the world, it can't just be shrugged to the side. And quite honestly any law has to be enforced by the legal system. If the ANC somehow does do away with the constitution which I think can be done be a presidential decree or something, then I guess that will be the call to arms. In my opinion, Malema is just there to voice out loud the very things the ANC would love to say and do but can't, which explains why no one is reining him in. What we need a loud mouth from the oppositions side who can do the same and call things the way they are with the odd "hand slap" when the bounds are over stepped. Malema is also handy in distracting the masses from the mess the ANC has realized it's in. Maybe it's about time the white's started singing "bring me my machine gun"!
  24. actually at no point did he say "whites", though the inference was there (according to news24 anyway). I reckon it's just campaign talk, and it's too be expected. As for actually carrying this out, my understanding is that the constitution totally prevents it, so it's just a load of whistling in a storm.
  25. I remember playing in the bush there as a young 'un some 20 odd years ago, but couldn't honestly say now. I visiting a mate in chiltern road this weekend so may just drive down there and look around. you think it's safe tho?
