  2. Then 717's would be my next suggestion. A lot of people like the DT rims as well. Maybe do a search, I seem to remember that JB wasn't too fond of them. Cant remember why. Opinions based on experience are worth listening to.
  3. I was gonna suggest him as well. Reasonable or cheap is all relative. You usually get what you pay for. Jeroen is a medical doctor @ the Sports Science institute. Olympic Cycles also do bike set-ups as do Cyle Lab.
  4. Why you ride toobs? My suggestions: Mavic 819 for thier full UST'ness Stans ZTR 355 or Arch - just add the yellow tape. Slightly more expensive, but quite a bit lighter. DT Swiss Supercomp spokes and a good builder.
  5. Its another mud slinging Monday! Roadies vs mounties vs cars vs everyone vs litter bugs...
  6. Measure the diameter of your wheel: Inflate your tyre to your correct pressure. Make a mark on the floor and the tyre and line them up. Sit on the bike and move forward for 1 wheel revolution till the mark on the tyre touches the floor. Mark that. Measure distance between marks on the floor and enter that into your computer. Get someone to help you. Accuracy is the key here. The accuracy of the readings are only as accurate as the settings and input you provide.splat2009-08-17 01:18:23
  7. Here is the deal you have been waiting for: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=58621
  8. If you can pick up a good deal on a CS400, then I would recommend that. I have had mine for about 1 1/2 years and haven't had a single problem.

    Stupid!!

    How is your bike?
  10. That's pretty quick wear. My Brother-in-Law has the Elixir R SL on his Specialized and was done with his brake pads in about a month. I got Elixir CR brakes on my X1 and have done about 800km and they are getting to the point now where I should keep an eye on the remaining brake pads. Mine came with the sintered pads. I don't know if the aftermarket or OEM pads are different or whether they are different from one model to another.
  11. You could phone 0860 111 502 or email Ben Blignaut @ blignab@sapo.co.za to find the SAPO tracking number. You give the the Parcelfoce tracking no. Your package could require a clearing agent, or they can't find the invoice (They don't look too hard 'cos there are usually 6 copies in a clear plastic pouch on the outside of the box).
  12. I have used ordinary inner tube puncture repair patches and glue with varied success. You gotta clean the inside of the tyre properly though. A bit of sanding. A bit of solvent (disc brake cleaner). A bit of rubber cement under the patch and a bit of superglue around the edges. Quite a P.I.T.A, but cheaper than a new tyre. The rubber worms sound interesting...
  13. Who was the bok player who had chest or lung or pulmonary problems just before world cup? All sorts of smoke and mirror stories there. Hardly any of the other sports ever test positive. Positives in athletics comes in waves. There is the odd story about baseball doping. Allegations about doping in golf were quickly squashed. Imagine the massive fall outs from all sides if the same anti doping measures were imposed. I reckon all the other sports are just hiding behind the big stories in cycling as that's where the attention is being focused.
  14. Or Cocaine to relax you during the off season...
  15. Apologies if this has been posted already (posted in wrong forum ) Article By: Staff Reporter - http://sport.iafrica.com/news/1857200.htm Tue, 11 Aug 2009 09:53 Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn tested positive for a banned substance during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Tuesday. Steyn, the world's number one fast bowler, was injured for the bulk of the IPL and only featured in three games for the Bangalore Royal Challengers. A urine sample taken from the SA star during the tournament indicated an excessive level of morphine. But CSA chief executive, Gerald Majola, indicated that the morphine levels ? Steyn was tested at 1.3 microgram per millimetre, which is only slightly over the allowed level of 1.0. ? can be attributed to the painkillers he was taking for a thumb injury. "We are aware of the result and submitted a report immediately to the IPL on why this has happened," Gerald Majola, CSA's chief executive told Cricinfo. "There was a marginal increase in the presence of morphine in the sample and that was due to painkillers he took during that period. We are awaiting a reply from the IPL authorities." CSA, meanwhile, is confident no action will be taken against Steyn. splat2009-08-11 03:21:39
  16. Park Tools Big Blue Book of Bike Repair Zinn and the art of Mountain Bike Maintenance. I think there is a road one as well.
  17. I also found that the contacts (press studs) between belt and transmitter need to be wet or the whole belt doesnt work properly.
  18. I wouldn't have thought that there were too many Zipp 808's in Botswana...
  19. I would have thought that the dry Oudshoord area is perfect Crossmark terrain...
  20. Explain nicely (as you have above), make sure he understands and give him the choice.
  21. Why go hard tail when there is a comfortable option? I didn't love mountain biking till I got my Giant Anthem. If you are looking for something to 'get into' mountain biking and dont want to spend too much money, then a hard tail will be better value for money. If you can afford to spend a bit, get a nice full susser and love it from the beginning.
  22. JB, I have wheels with 819 rims. How do I clean them so that they don't get gunked up? As far as I am aware, the nipples and collars were installed with an anti seize agent of sorts and not oil (or loctite for that matter).
  23. Just another thought. Have you had to had the wheel trued before? Any broken spokes recently? I know that after breaking a few spokes in a short time, its often a good idea to just rebuild the whole wheel with new spokes.
  24. Has the lbs even seen the wheel? How badly out of true is it? How can he make a call like that? I wouldn't even buy tubes from a shop that dishes out advice like that.
