  1. I’ve been asked for my opinion but will rather share my experience of running a small workshop in Prince Albert for the past 8 years . i am sorry I have never kept track and recorded bikepacker and bike tourists coming through. It would have made a nice book. In addition to those all the Freedom Challenge riders and similar races pass through. the European cycle tourists use much simpler bicycles that us locals do . I see lots of 26” hard tail rigid fork cantilever bikes with 3 x9 or 2 x10 drivetrain. Which is sensible if you are going to cycle through Africa . with a single exception not a single broken frame . The exception was a friend of Stan E from Scotland whose 20 year old steel 26” frame developed a crack at the BB caused by Scottish rust from the inside . And was welded expertly by our local handyman. I think we all make too much about frames breaking. If you look after your frame it will look after you whether carbon steel titanium or alu. what causes problems are wheels . Spokes hubs tyres and freebodies . And brakes . The odd BB . My 2C
  2. A local labourer was gifted a Dahon folding bike by a departing employer and I am trying to source 18” tyres and tubes. No response from the Dahon shop in CT don’t know if they still around ? Anyone with a lead please ? Arno 0833959038
  3. I followed a Dutch bikepacker Thijs Pankras on Strava who has just finished his 11000 km ride through Africa in Cape Town . His Strava ride yesterday of 101 km mentions that someone in his group was violently robbed ? The day before he joked that he was relocating to Stellenbosch after riding with some guys there. Now we won’t see him again .
  4. Did 2 with my youngest son when he was 15 and 16 respectively. Best memories . Ride so that he wants to do it again . And again.
  5. I am hoping to do the official nr 21 in 2025 at age 76 . First one was in 1988 . Actually finished 21 Tours already but was DQ in 2015 for starting 5 min early . No idea how that happened. Included were 2 with my wife who is not a cyclist but wanted to do it on a tandem and 2 with my youngest son when he was 15 and 16 years old respectively. Despite a few sub 3 ‘s on the old Kamps Bay finish my best memory is my 2hr 43 ride with my son on the tandem when we were 16 and 45 respectively.
  6. Who can remember when the route was shortened to the end of the Blue Route ? was fires or protests I think what year was that ?
  7. Possibly correct statement but not cool
  8. See if you can get hold of Ron Thompson walking library of bikes that old . Got a set of decals for my DHC road bike from him . In 2022 Ron’s number was 082 570 3650 Arno
  9. A bit late now but I watched both men’s and ladies races live on Tizz without hassle
  10. Mine is Groupset for sale ..and then what is for sale is not a groupset but some parts of a groupset What is yours ?
  11. Has the question which is best/fastest bike for K2C been answered? Won by Tristan Noortje on a mtb in a record time
  12. Those predictions were amazingly accurate ! my first Mtb was a MB-3 and also owned a Radac . A garden worker in Prince Albert rides a MB-1 to work . Tried to buy it a while back . Must try again.
  13. Jake . Left the UK 8 months ago . Helped him to convert to tubeless Monday this week before he left for Greyton.
