  1. I'd guess it's in Numbers but by the end of a marathon you're probably experiencing Revelations.
  2. Talking of which, have you seen the Asics Metaride that just launched? It's their answer to the Nike 4% but with that Asics twist of being bulky, over-designed, over-padded, heavy and ungainly. The DS Trainer is still the only shoe I like in their stable.
  3. Saw her at Dischem. She came in with the 2-hour bus, though that is pretty meaningless given her credentials. She didn't look all that comfortable or happy but I know she went through a pretty rough year with both life and injury so perfectly understandable if her head isn't in it for 2019. That said, she's the type of person that could bounce back at any time given the kind of determination she has. Still, when you've got people like Anne already busting 200km weeks, it's hard to see how one would play catch up. But then it is Comrades and there are zero guarantees for anyone, regardless of their training.
  4. I'm really inexperienced as far as Comrades goes so take what I say with a pinch of salt. Things in your favour: • You qualified comfortably, which is a good indicator • You have the mental strength from your cycling history • Comrades training only really ramps up in March so if you have a base for January and February, which you do, your mileage to date is a non-issue. Challenges • I'm not sure how long you've been running consistently but if you're relatively new to frequent training there is the injury risk associated with ramping up the mileage. This can always be mitigated with a training plan that builds gently • You'll need to do at least two ultra training runs before then. • Time (if you want to balance the bike and the running) So I think the only barrier for you is simply whether or not you really want to do it. If you do then you'll likely be absolutely fine.
  5. I'm not a morning runner at all but I've learnt that if I hesitate it doesn't happen. The trick is to race out the house and start your run while you're still mostly asleep.
  6. I hope your daughter is okay? Not an ideal way to start the morning. You'll love PMB, just a brilliantly hosted race. John Hall puts so much effort into that race, hence it being one of the few IAAF certified marathons in the country.
  7. Nice work on Deloitte, Ferret. You seem to be the go-to man for people wanting to run a sub 3 now! I'd love to join you guys for one of your Anvils. To be honest, I find the thought of running with you lot even more intimidating than the thought of a race.
  8. Oh, right. Was it related to the whole ban on Parkruns holding pre-event runs for their volunteers? I know that my local event was really upset about that as it has always had a thing where volunteers can run at 7am after setting up and prepping the course and still have their result count.
  9. Thanks, Candz. Such a lovely course that, it's got corners in all the right places to keep you going. How slippery was that roadworks section before Duzi, though? I nearly went bum over belly there. So bleak that I didn't see you guys at the end, would love to have shared a coffee (or a beer!) afterwards. I see you and Haydn ran great times as well, congrats!
  10. Well the current mile record for running in denim jeans is 4:16 Running in blue jeans is a thing.
  11. You could also try the "Couch to Comrades in 6 weeks" programme pioneered by Andrew Steer. It generally involves taking up running in April and then somehow, through sheer bloody-mindedness, completing Comrades a couple months later.
  12. If you're enjoying your running then you're doing it right.
  13. That still rates as the best mid-range running watch for me. The features are perfect for everything from training to racing, the battery life is good, the interface is very well thought out and you quickly realise how well Garmin has tested it when you try to adjust something relatively random but necessary midway through a run and find that they've made it easy to do. I loved that it isn't overburdened by statistical minutiae that you don't really know what to do with. Throw in a great phone app, easy synching, plenty of customisation for the kind of information that you like, and an online resource for data fields to expand the functionality and it's pretty much perfect.
  14. Ja, it's an odd way of initiating the feature since I don't know many people that run with their phones any more but once it's saved it's pretty easy from there.
  15. I had no idea about the Garmin version, just located it now thanks to your comment. Very handy!
  16. I've heard that it's apparently only available on iPhone so not sure if you're on Android. If you are using iOS then you need to start a new activity from your phone then set a route. Once you're done, save the route and then you can access it via the website and transfer to Garmin, etc. from there.
  17. Tried it the other day, was a fun way of doing a new route. I just dragged it in a circle around my neighbourhood, sent it to my watch and headed out. Impressively simple.
  18. Thanks for the heads up. Their Mohair socks are a thing of wonder.
  19. How long did you take off for your stress fracture?
  20. You're getting great distances on those shoes. I tend to burn through mine at about 730km and then they become my short run shoes whilst I wear in a new pair for my longer runs. Mine is more an issue of burning through that blown-rubber tread. It's super soft and grippy but also, I suspect, a form of engineered redundancy since the rest of the shoe still looks new.
  21. On the topic of trail shoes, has anybody here tried Peregrines?
  22. I'm afraid I don't have enough experience with trail to give any educated opinion. Dave would be the best person to ask I think.
  23. For the Altra fans, the Escalante, Lone Peak and Superior have just arrived at the Randburg Runner in Linden. Those Superiors look damn racy for shorter trails! I'd be interested to try those Escalantes for road.
  24. Eish! Sorry, Mr Steer. Not a nice way to end the race but you still got in a very tough 37km training run, part of which was a blitzy 21km. I hope the legs come right so you can get in some gentle miles this week.
