  1. hehe JC, I experience the same noisy stomach. It's as if there is a war going on in side. Do you also experienced elevated HR, both resting and when cycling? If so what does Ian say about this and will it goes back to "normal" once your body has adapted. What I've heard is that it is due to the fact that your body need to work harder to metabolise the fat than comparing to carbs.
  2. Me and my wife also struggle with cramps and dizziness especially after hard training days, which we never experienced before. We now take salt tablets on training days and problem solved.
  3. That book is really awesome. Try the chocolate cake. My wife baked it 2 weeks ago to take to a party we were invited to so that we don't have to eat the processed sugar stuff. everybody gave us k@k about our "cake" that is not a "cake", but when I want to go for a second helping it was finished and there was a lot of left overs of the sugar stuff I must brag a bit here, my wife can cook and bake. I am extremely lucky in this regard. we have another party this weekend and she will bake the carrot cake for this. Looking really forward to it. Yes she will bake two cakes for the anti- banting brigade
  4. HI JC, where can I buy these ketone strips to test the ketone levels. As said previously I started on a LCHF lifestyle on 16 March, but still feels very flat and can't do HIIT on the wattbike that I've done before. I also feel very flat. I stayed with the eating plan, very strictly but never track my food. I downloaded the Myfitness app on the weekend and was shocked to see that my Carb intake is over 40g per day so far. I assume that I am not in ketosis (because of this high carb intake) and this is probably why I still struggle to train properly after almost 3 months. The good thing is that I can see where my carb intake is and can now cut on those foods. Further my protein intake is much to low- about 60 g where it should be closer to 100g. So I guess I lost a good deal of muscle weight in the process and not only fat.
  5. I will follow this with real interest. I'm on LCHF now since middle March and still doesn't have any power to go really hard. Weight loss have been awesome though.
  6. Please help! How do you take the coconut oil? Just clean? one teaspoon/ tablespoon? Do you melt it first? Doesn't it taste awkward? I do take a nice strong Bulletproof coffee first thing in the morning with butter and oil. Also started yesterday with the fat bombs. This constipation is really killing me and not even Epsom salt seems to do the trick. After loosing 5kg last week, I gained 0.6 Kg this week so far and I'm not cheating. It's like we say in Afrikaans" 'n paar etes voor en 'n paar K@kke agter" After weighing this morning the spirit are a bit down but I'm still highly motivated to push through.
  7. I appreciate all the feedback guys. Thanks. I already start the day with a nice bulletproof coffee (butter and coconut oil added). A friend suggest to also add more leafy greens, but that things will normalise eventually. we will see how it goes.
  8. Thanks for replying. I think what I did wrong the first time around was eating to much protein. I now eat only two meals a day- brunch and dinner. In between I'll have a light snack, usually yogurt with fruit or some mac nuts with a fruit. Is one fruit a day enough low carb or can I increase it to 2? Currently I'm doing fine. I'm not really hungry and aren't really tired through the day. It is just the training that I can't do properly now. the other thing is, I'm very constipated. Will this normalise as well over time?
  9. I've tried LCHF last year but gained some kg's and felt terrible. A friend has lost some really big KG's so far and I have heard to many good things to ignore it. So, after the argus I started again and lost 5kg in week one. I also started to train again last week but couldn't complete one hard training session yet. Went for a short and easy (62 km) ride on Sunday and was shocked at how flat and energy-less I felt. Had another hard session last night on IDT, and again I had no energy. I didn't get to do one interval. I'm not tired during the day, but after I've warmed up on the IDT I can already feel that my energy levels are op. Is this to be expected because I'm not in full ketosis yet? When can I expect my energy levels to pick up again? My first race is only again September (R4V) so I am not too worried not being able to train properly. I am quite committed to go all the way- another 15kg to go - and are willing to sacrifice training time if that is required, although I don't want to lose the momentum I've build up pre argus. I am now the fittest I was in years due to a proper structured training programme, but I need to shed these extra kg's. I didn't go through all these posts, but did anyone else experience this lack of energy while training? Any advice? Should increase my fat intake?
  10. Well, lets go have some fun on Sunday and show support for all those affected by the fire. Cape Town better make up for this next year by having a windless day.
  11. It sucks, but at least I'm not coming down for nothing. I will show my solidarity to all those affected by the fire and just have a fun ride instead of racing. I appreciate all the effort by the CTCT organisers and City of Cape Town to still accommodate us.
  12. probably still half the climbing than in the 94.7
  13. What is the latest news on the Fire? Is it under control yet? Is the wind more fire friendly today?
  14. I guess normal food are always the best and safer option, but things that are wrapped are just so much nicer
  15. Taking into account the hype around LCHF and the fact that companies like Dischem now has a whole section on LCHF/ banting friendly products, I Just wonder how long it will take (if ever) companies like USN, Powerbar to start producing LCHF energy bars (fat boms). As far as I can tell it will do quite well considering the success Dischem had with their LCHF products.
  16. Thank You DaleE, I really appreciate your advice.
  17. I eat according to Prof Noakes book. Morning- 2 eggs + 2 bacon with a mushroom fried I coco oil wit thick slice of tomato. lunch- Tin tuna/ 130g pork/ lamb/ beef chicken with about 150 g of vegs (geen list) all fried in coco oil. Supper the same or a nice lentil with vegs soup. The portion sizes are plus/ minus. In between meals I will eat some nuts or perhaps a teaspoon or two of mac butter and or a apple. With the nuts and apple I stay in the recommended 50 g carbs a day. I forgot to mention I get extremely constipated - like 3 days in a row and then on day 4 I need to go to bathroom in total isolation. Its not safe in a 100 meter radius
  18. Hi Everyone. This is my first time on this site and I also started the LCHF diet last week monday. I've noticed that there are some people here who are quite well informed on the topic. Sine I started I've picked up about 2.5 KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel vet ,dik, bloated, gloated and after weighing this morning, sommer moerig as well. From what I read from the previous posts it is normal to feel a bit "af" initially, but is it normal to pick up so much weight? I can understand if I don't loose weight/ fat immediately but not to pick up so much. I can feel my pants also fits a bit tighter. I started cycling about 5 years ago, am 45 years old and are at this stage 23 kg over weight. Being the same weight during last years 94.7 I rode 2h58 and my best Argus in 2012 of 3h09. I know if I can lost these extra kilos, train smarter I can ride pretty descent times. I would love some advise from you guys regarding this LCHF and the weight I picked up. How long should I give it a try. I was extremely overweight after last years winter (that was a tough winter ) but lost 12 KG from beginning August till Nov. picked up a few over the holidays (phew!!) and lost about 8 up to the argus. Since then I slowly picked up 2 KG due to cheating and now another 2.5kg in a week and a half. The diet I were on is a very strict (weighing meat and vegs to the gram, only eat certain meats and vegs, very limited carbs and fat)) paleo based diet. I start loosing weight from the word go and also start feeling great from the word go. Although still being overweight, I felt stronger on the bike and had a solid 94.7 (my best) although I know I didn't trained as nearly as hard and wasn't close to being as fit as in 2012/2013. I'm looking forward to your valuable input.
