  1. Feel for those that was going to use this race for their K2C seeding.
  2. Well it is probably the safer option, at least they providing the notification in advance, and not two days beforehand. Might just go do a ride during the week (or night ride), as properly cleaned and serviced my bike last night
  3. I rode the NissanTrailseeker on Sat, which seem to have been the right decision, the route marking, waterpoints, route planning, parking, was all on song.
  4. Also saw that, just thinking how dangerous that descent is going to be from the top of Groenlandberg with the puddles hiding deep / loose ruts
  5. Snap.. I also jumped off FB, but luckily could still get the screen grabs
  6. On their facebook site there are some route profiles
  7. What a wonderful event, was a shame that the field looked a bit thin but with all the other events over this weekend that is to be expected, this did help with nearly no bottlenecks at the back. Regarding the event it was tough but had technical descent, gradual climbs and more climbs. Very good route marking, waterpoints were also spot on and being in C group when I got there, there were still more than enough stock left. In spesific the water bottel filling worked very well. And then it was all wrapped up in a more practical finishers "Medal". All in all I hope other organisers of events learn from what worked well here (which include board to confirm you are actually on the correct route). Regarding the final distance, I might have missed it as there were some contridictions. The boards were for 70km, the route profile was labelled 60km and the final distance was 65/66. Also not sure why they added that last loop just before the end or was that just to add 2 km to the route? Lastly just want to thank Nissan and King Price for their support, it is much appreciated.
  8. Nope, I am not on the racing side, more in the B or C group. For me I am more out there to enjoy the ride. And if need be and I am sitting behind someone going up a single track slowly I will just use the time to recover a bit, or politely ask them if I can pass when it is convenient.
  9. So should I be ready to hear / ask politely ... "Stay to the left" This weekend has a few races actually, between Backsberg and Staalwater also happening.
  10. Just having a look at the profile for the 60km, that is over 1800m climbing, so does that mean it is one of those Mountain hiking races?
  11. Have wondered why not more of the races do this. Or is it because they know that on the day they might need to incorporate some route changes last minute?
  12. Agree with you fully, if they can close one lane for road works, then they can close one lane for a morning. It will be nice if the cyclist all behave of course and stick to the closed lane only and not move over to the "vehicle" lane
  13. Now very jealous of you... we staying over in PiketBerg, so getting up the next morning to make it in time for the 7am start, and getting the other bikes will be touch an go.
  14. Yip. But always was the short bit, this year the route got in the N7 from phili, and there were feedback (unconfirmed) that some of the groups did not behave on the N7, with some officials indicating that they might not get approval again for that stretch of road. But it could have just been a story.
  15. The day before is the Piket-bo-berg cycle
  16. Best of luck, it clashes with another race else we would also have been there. And really hope that all the cyclist stick to the rules, because just maybe then they will still allow the 99er to make use of the N7 again.
  17. Normally if someone notes a concern and mail them they are very good in correcting it. It is a fine balance between riders wanting to see their results out as quick as possible and validating the results. But yeah understand it can be frustrating
  18. Signed up for the race ;-) Realised the weather is the weather.. but so far looks like an amazing day on the weekend, just brisky in the morning
  19. Bibs do complicate things quiet a lot But some articles on the matter... "Surprisingly, most of the pros with whom we spoke said that their method of peeing on the bike was to stop, drop, and go. They mentioned full-zip jerseys with stunning frequency. Others swear by the up-and-over method: pulling one leg of your shorts as high as possible, then shifting the chamois to the side. And a few riders discussed the finer points of simply “letting it go” while riding. Don’t try that on your shop ride, please."
  20. Very few of the MTB races actually have portable loos now I think about it, but about the stops I can also attest that they were stocked, but maybe it was soooo good that the first bunches took more than they should.
  21. Probably just used the previous years route. So maybe the final route will be a bit shorter / longer
  22. Think in future when people start complaining about whatever just refer them to the new rules.. think it covers most aspects
  23. And I doubt the security would really challenge someone except if it is really obvious that something is going down, else there will be a storm over profiling.
  24. The hospitality area worked so much better, I can understand if some would prefer the end and that area to be closer but thinknit worked and they will take the learnings , for example bigger bike park area, sorting out the parking. But for me it was a success and enjoyed the ride for what it was. Not sure how it was on the sharp end of the race but did not have any problems with fellow riders. Most were friendly and in good spirit, and to the guys that rode for 5 hours.. kudos in keeping on going
