  1. Tempting..
  2. Thanks for the good news, and here is hoping for some good rain to help with the build and repairs
  3. As far as I am aware, they have this year increased their visibility again, from last year, with lamppost boards, banners at certain shopping centres, putting up stands at certain intersections, as well as number of radio discussions on stations in Cape Town. Then I am not even talking about the number of stickers that are distributed that can be placed on your vehicle that will further increase the awareness. Are they doing all that can be done, maybe not, are they doing something, for sure. The idea of arm bands is actually for me a nice idea, to increase the sense of community of all cyclist on the road, not sure how many will actually wear it.
  4. Was wondering how they going to check that, or just trust each rider to do the right thing?
  5. If I look at the Stravas of the guys the 60km "only" adds about 200m of climbing for the extra 15km. Not sure how that compares to the official stats.
  6. For the guys that did the Durbie Dash. How does the two compare?
  7. Wife also did the 25km, bit of a fall but finished ok. She said it was hectic and the total climb does not represent the effort needed as accurately
  8. Congrats to all that participated and that finished. Was a hot day and think we went up most of the hills in the area.
  9. ag no man. hope he does well
  10. so to camelback or not?
  11. If I look at the starting loop, we might have to consider topping up on the sealant, is there not a lot of thorns on the inside of that track?
  12. Seems I was wrong, they just sent a link with the starting times for all Seems there are 711 riders signed up so far
  13. It is mostly the 60km route that gives you access to areas you are not normally allowed to ride, but damn think I will stick with the 45km. But yet if it was not for my wife I would have skipped the race and rather do the route on my own on another weekend.
  14. Entry ninjas, for some reason I think everyone start at the same time (per route)
  15. I think the only thing about the 60km is that extra bit that is normally not open to tygerberg mtb riders, the section above bloemendal. But also thinking I prefer a fun day than a suffer day for now and rather split the riding between a 45 on the Sat and maybe Bottelary on sunday (minus the yellow route)
  16. Who is racing this? Or more riding this race? How much of a challenge is the 60km?
  17. Hope the damage is limited, all the best with the fire fighting efforts.
  18. From the sounds even the racing guys upfront could not finish all 3 on their bikes
  19. My garmin 500 recorded a 1220, which is surprising that it is so close to the reported amount as I never get close. On strava I see reported between 1000m up to 1200m The 13km one was about 220m ascent
  20. I might do the shorter one next year of I am not much fitter. Heading for that second hill into the teeth of the wind costed me a lot of matches. last year we also took a wrong turn about a few km before where the last waterpoint was today. ended up at a farmhouse fromwhere we could see the route continue
  21. The did mention at the start that they knocked off 3 km, so not sure if that also had something to do with it. What I took from it, I need to train more, my legs were sooo tired in the middle / end. But I did my bit and stopped at each water point (think there were 8, I sort of lost count) The sand had its challenges but did not the thorns, those two climbs I think it is best not to mention them to much.
  22. And with the bit of rain hopefully it will also be less dusty
  23. Picked up the board yesterday, and sounds like there are more participants than last year, and they have changed some of the old route too to exclude some of the sandy bits. Also reading the flyer.. they saying there are 8 waterpoints on the 76km, 4 on the 40km, and 1 on the 13km. {I am sure I must have read that wrong} Damn.. .those are a lots of waterpoints
  24. One thing I remembered was nearer to the end the field gets so spread out that I was riding totally on my own for long sections. This year going to ride with softtail so at least hoping it will be easier on the behind.
  25. Based on last years route, it is very little technical, some small pathways and farm roads.
