  1. Cool see you on the route, or are the one of the front racing snakes?
  2. Which route are you doing?
  3. How is this for a deal that cannnot be missed? https://www.onedayonly.co.za/premium-italian-dogma-f8-limited-edition-bicycle-more-sizes-available.html?utm_source=OneDayOnly&utm_campaign=c7b416902b-02_October_201702-10-2017&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_34763bf86d-c7b416902b-404675977
  4. Really looking forward to this race
  5. Agree about the final area, was not sure of it was due to issues before on the lawn area or of they wanted to get the finish closer to where the general festivities were being held. The behaviour of all on the trails were tip top and think the long start before the ST must make things easier with bottelneck. The only bottlenecks we found was on that last bit of ST before the end and generally the slower riders got out of the way after a friendly.. do you mind if I can pass when it is safe to do so...
  6. Just reminded me again today why I enjoy the vibe and race (tag system excluded). Was not sure about it after doing the Nissan Trailseeker but gave it a go. Saw some hub faces at the start but they flew so fast out of the chutes never to be seen again. Thanks to all for the organisation of the event and will be back next year. Not sure about the latish start (9am) but sure there must be a reason.
  7. enjoy all that is doing the race. A bit of a late start and sad that did not get access to the big lawns.
  8. My view is that you still have to put yourself in a position to be still achieve that goal, it is like a golfer saying that I am not going to hit those extra balls on the driving range because the chances of getting a hole in one is too slim, or someone not buying a lottery ticket because the chances of winning anything is so small (even those 4 ball match price). I train to be fit so I can enjoy the race and if I get a good group to join on the route, that I can stick with them and event do my bit at the front. From our side we excited about the race, as it will be my second full race and excited about the vibe and what ever the weather brings (I am sure it will be cloudy with a 5km/h wind just to keep everything nice an cool, and an average temp of 22 degrees).
  9. Looking forward to the route, seems they going to try and put a bit of extra single track in
  10. That is sort of what i am thinking, that there are lots of people that will be sitting back and first see how this one goes, and "when" it goes VERY well, they will all be excited about the 2019 race.
  11. Hopefully they still sell enough entries so they can keep there "marketing tagline" - World's Largest Timed Cycle Race But yes it is like any big thing, never assume you will always be the flavour of the month, things changes and the costs around it is getting expensive for certain people. Myself, I am excited to participate but do feel for the charities who will probably be hit the hardest as for lots of people that was the only option for certain people to get an entry, now they can access it directly, bypassing the charities.
  12. Would be nice to see.. not that it will make that much of a difference, already entered
  13. Any more updates?
  14. Just asking.. did the discount options not appear when you entered ? Mine showed with discount / donation to PPA / normal price
  15. Think that it is a nice gesture to those that did pay last time for the second lap.
  16. Notice from PPA: PPA members who had entered and registered for the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour will get the first chance to get their entries in from 7-13 September when entries for this group opens. “These members had missed out in 2017,” explained Robert Vogel, PPA CEO. “They had paid for their entries; had registered, and were ready to ride when the event was cancelled. In order to ‘give back’ to these members, this year PPA is giving these riders an additional R50 discount on top of the discounted PPA entry fee.” In addition, PPA members who had registered and paid to ride a second lap in 2017, will not be charged to ride a second lap in 2018 (should they qualify for and want to ride two laps in 2018).
  17. Or just ride with your MTB on the left side over the yellow lines
  18. Probably agree with you with that, if I stayed in Gauteng I would not be so quick to sign up
  19. Seems the most agree with that it is fair
  20. Can only compare it with other road races, which might be a bit cheaper, but do not have the same amount of organisation around it, which include full road closures. I understand that there is other sources of income, and more riders to spread the costs. For me, I will be paying it, if I compare it to what I am getting for it. Yes it might get to a point where it become a bit of a barrier for youth riders to participate, but I am sure that they have mechanisms for these to be catered for.
  21. I think that it is a good move, yes it will have negative impact on some, but generally it does allow more options for them and us.
  22. Don't think the R30 is worth a reason for renewing, my reason for renewing is more than even though they might not be doing everything that everybody wants them to do, but they are doing something, and I feel I want to continue to support them (disclaimer I spend more time on the mtb rides than the road ride)

  24. I thought it is the 1st of Oct. but might downgrade my race as I am considering also doing the nissan trailseeker the day before
