  1. there was one more probably 20 meters on too. They views from the top was really amazing, makes you forget we are having water problems with all the green vines
  2. Again and again these trails surprise me in how much fun I have on them. Tried the new blue route and it was really tough at the start but so rewarding (and glad we did not take the short cut halfway to the yellow route) Two comments, luckily for us we have ridden the route before but there were two directional boards that was either not visible or where the arrow was gone (both on the red route) Second comment, think it has been mentioned before, there are 2 tree trunks across the ribbok trail (and yes they were to big to move and doubt my leatherman would have been helpful)
  3. Yes it will but with a penalty because it was so long ago
  4. So what happen if you tick you believe you have a licence but do not actually have one?
  5. Some one day only specials that I am sure is going to sell out.. get there fast. https://www.onedayonly.co.za/29-aluminium-mountain-bike.html AboutThe V-tech aluminium frameset designed for the enthusiast mountain biker making the frame stiff, responsive and light. With geometry that is race ready and offers the rider the competitive edge through technical terrain and pedalling efferently and still inspires cycling confidence. The internal cable routing ensuring smooth clean lines and 29” wheel format gives traction and control while comfort with stability are always our primary concern. Suntour’s XTC HLO suspension with manual lockout making this the perfect match for the 100mm travel designed frameset. Shimano Altus 24 speed groupset gives the rider a broad range of gearing suitable for any terrain which might be presented
  6. Looking at the budget for next year so might also do it, and looking what other race it will replace
  7. So does that mean this is a bucket-list or favourite race to do ?
  8. The change is very interesting, agree that it did add to the vibe of the race, going up and down that bumpy road with the water point at the top. Can't keep everyone happy I assume, else they might just have brought back the gravel part.
  9. I just assumed he backtrack back to his car
  10. Are the results out yet ?
  11. What I liked about the race, even thought it is mostly the Stell Cycle race, the change of starting point changed the race quite a bit, I know it is not always practical to change the starting point or to switch the direction but it really adds a different dimension to a race.
  12. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. That was a race I soooo enjoyed (not so much the 40min before when I mis- stepped and got a gash on my leg that will probably need a stich or two. Luckily it was not so bad that it stopped me enjoying the race. First off, the weather... could there be better without it being called cheating. No wind, moderate temp, etc. Second off the route, I so much prefer it over both the Stell Cycle and the One Tonner. Nice fast start to warm up the legs before hitting Hellshoogte at around 27km, did of course underestimate the Windmeul though. Thirdly the fellow riders was such a joy with some nice chats Lastly, felt very safe on the roads, not sure if it was all the marshalls or early start, we even had one of the mobile medical vehicles protecting our behinds for some stretches through Wellington. All in all big thanks to PPA for organising the race. Hope it continues for many years.
  13. Ok, will be a fun day, seems that weather wise it is looking good, with the exception of a bit of heat around Wellington. But I was thinking, there are probably going to be a 90 / 10 split at the race between road bikes and mtbs right? Going to stand out more than at the One Tonner
  14. Any update on the road surface?
  15. Like most things in life, depends on the view from your perspective different arguments will start to carry more weight... in life and business
  16. Lots of success with this
  17. OMW, a whole new world has just been opened ;-)
  18. holding in my breath not to build on that comment.
  19. Agree with you fully, really enjoyed doing the shorter route with the family on Sat and the longer route on the Sun. Also noted they changed the routes and seems there is one less, with now only a 20/40/60 routes available. But what I have read there is more single track included... “The Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge 60km route is a proper test with extended single-track runs and big climbs,” says Bellairs. “We have increased the distance from last year’s 55km to make sure that this medal is one that is well-deserved.” At Muratie Estate, the 60km riders will veer off to take on the trails at Quoin Rock, Knorhoek and Delheim Estates before heading back to Uitkyk where they will rejoin the 40km route to the finish.
  20. Being more in the middle I did not have that much congestion last year, but do hope they do not take a page out of the Burger MTB challenge, where the solution to riders complaining about bottlenecks were to cut back on the ST.
  21. Ok I was one of those that did the 60km.. omw it was so much fun. Yes I got the longest shower I had in a long time, but the trails so made up for it. It was a test and a challenge with brakes that squelled and especially in the first few km with having to fight the handlebars and not to go sideways. Highlights was probably Oak valley and the trails they have there. And then not forgetting the waterpoints with some serious friendly people. And lastly those message boards for example "Dam" nice view overlooking the one dam, etc was also priceless. The was probably my first mtb race in the rain and with some serious wind and it was not as bad as I thought it would be, but not sure yet how much damage was done to the drive chain.
  22. Did anyone receive any communication / emails regarding the registration or start times?
  23. Yeah was happy when it sort of returned more about the excitement of the race and preparartion. Maybe should have thrown in the fact that I think the MTB entries have also opened. Or has that already been shared?
  24. I agree, it may be a bit of what happened last year, but think in general there is less and less people that is willing to pay for the costs involved (including the travelling costs).
  25. Hope he is a monster with a wetsuit.. early predictions are there might be some rain. So conflicted as will love to ride the race without to much mud, but we REALLY need the rain
