  1. Nice. What about Meerendal, which has also been somewhat ravaged since the Epic?
  2. Cool, it's amazing how similar the landscape is.
  3. There is just no place like Namibia. Well done Fire Engine.

  5. I propose that all the moaners, whiners and whingers who deem it below themselves to ride the Argus Lite donate their entries to the pilots and fire teams who bravely fought this monster in our midst, and let these absolute hero's ride a lap of honour in the midst of the people who really love this city. Damn, I will be honoured to ride with them, even if it takes me 5 hours to finish. Maybe even give them your bikes to ride on, then you can go stand on the sidewalk and really let rip with your self vindication.
  6. No, actually they can't, you see I want to go ride at CONTERMANSKLOOF on Sunday after the funride, and I really do not want to get caught up in all that traffic...
  7. I will be at the start line on Sunday in my 8A chute since I have never done one before. I will trap that 47km like my life depends on it, I will get the best time I possibly can over the distance, I will enjoy the vibe, I will have a beer afterwards with my mates, I will enjoy the crap out of the day, I will most likely go do a lap around Meerendal later in the arvie, I will look back with fondness on that day because of the gees of the people in this town who are willing to unite in the face of disaster, and mostly I will smile in years to come remembering this day when it is mentioned for the zillionth time in the news when people talk about it, saying "remember that year the tour was only 47km" At least I will be able to say, Yeah, I was there!
  8. Duuuuude! I am doing the event on my Crossmarks...I even did a 120kay training ride around the peninsula three weeks ago on those puppies. No problems at all...
  9. My money is on this year's tour, which would have been my first, is gonna be cancelled. No way the tour trust and City of Cape Town are going to let people ride through that devastation, with the inherent risks that involves. The smoke from this fire will linger for days, and the ash and dust which is going to be kicked up by the wind on Sunday will make for extremely difficult riding. People who are not really fit will definitely find it hard going. People could suffer respiratory and cardiac problems in that kind of environment. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see another outcome to this.
  10. Regardless of what the decision is, I am grateful that I got to do some training rides along the western seaboard between Seapoint and Noordhoek a couple times. That really is a special place to ride along Chappies etc. I also managed a full lap at least once.
  11. Plus, it can be used to "ream" a couple holes in the next baas-ted who tries to skaai a mtb on a trail ride. To me that is the clincher...
  12. Whoops, my bad. Yup, I'm so used to having dealings with Gerrie that I typed his name on auto-pilot mode, but yes, I meant Mathys. Still, top man Gerrie is.
  13. I for one would like to see Phil Buys and Gerrie Beukes have another crack at a podium finish. Those two absolutely beasted the Cape Pioneer, and if not for Gerrie's tyre woes, who knows what could have been.
  14. how about it Absa Cape Epic, how about sponsoring this fine man an entry for next year. He is riding a Pyga after all...
  15. Lekker, I'm out there like a bear. I have all of the above except the ND filter, but I will make a plan with that. I will definitely post my results. it might take some time, but I will show my result for sure
  16. Cool video, I have just been re-invigorated to pull out my trusty D-SLR and go try this. Cape Town has soooo many spots where this will work amazingly well. Thanks
  17. I was in the Negev in 2012. I wish I could go back to ride there. It is just such a special place to be. b.t.w., is that a Capra YT? Those bikes are just mind blowingly beautiful
  18. Kudo's are great when you have REALLY earned them, such as getting PR's and such. but when you get Kudo's for just riding even a short distance, then for me that kind of deflates the meaning a bit. I like giving Kudo's to my mates when it is clear they did a monster effort like climb a big hill, go for a rider bigger than they normally do, or put in just that little bit extra.
  19. Dit sal nou omtrent hier wees wat ek my geheelenal bek@k
