  1. Hi. What has become of the Trinity Sports series of duathlon and triathlon events at Germiston Lake? Not seen any change to the content of their website since January 2022. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere or earlier. Tx.
  2. Free to a worthy home: '42 Peaks : The Story of the Bob Graham Round'. Book. History of this great English Lake District challenge. One of the world's ultimate solo running undertakings. You must collect, I live in Atholl, Sandton. Russ
  3. Geomark, in the top image and vertically above the wing mirror, is that Compassberg in the hazy distance? Just wondered.
  4. Yorkshire: God's own country. Enjoy. ????????????‍♂️????‍♀️
  5. Running: 1142 kays. Cycling: 2590 kays. Push-ups: 25001. I'm 62 yo.
  6. Alex, you are one of the hardest blokes I've ever met. Well deserved. Russ (and Heather).
  7. That would be Tommy Simpson. MHDSRIP.
  8. Hi, Post #12 below, refers. (The one with the maps). Has anyone ridden the gravel road from Tarkastad to Cradock past the Commando Drift Nature Reserve? If so, please advise about conditions - rutted? steep inclines? much/any traffic? Any input would be appreciated. Ta.
  9. 'I suppose that everybody has a piece of landscape somewhere that he finds captivating beyond words and mine is the Yorkshire Dales. I can’t altogether account for it because you can easily find more dramatic landscapes elsewhere, even in Britain. All I can say is that the Dales seized me like a helpless infatuation when I first saw them and will not let me go. Partly, I suppose, it is the exhilarating contrast between the high fells, with their endless views, and the relative lushness of the valley floors, with their clustered villages and green farms. To drive almost anywhere in the Dales is to make a constant transition between these two hypnotic zones. It is wonderful beyond words. And partly it is the snug air of self-containment that the enclosing hills give, a sense that the rest of the world is far away and unnecessary, which is something you come to appreciate very much when you live there.' - Bill Bryson, Notes from a small island. From a tyke.
  10. Well done Frosty. I looked for you at the start, but didn't see you. Did the 10k in 52:19. So now perhaps you should consider Durban Ironman 70.3 - ? Russ.

    Who remembers?

What is a travelers cheque, anyway?

    Who remembers?

Always referred to them as 'radiograms', when I was a lad.
  13. Morning. I ran my first race as a Grandmaster on Saturday: Garsfontein Icebreaker 21k. Finished in 1:58. Chuffed. Life in the old dog yet ... . (Oh, plus free entry as a GM).
  14. Hi All, I endorse the sentiments of cycling in the Compassberg area. We have just returned from the second of two trips where we were based at Ganora guest farm, and did day routes from there. The best day out we had was on 'J-P's Loop', a 62kay route starting and finishing at Ganora, with 880 metres of ascent. Quiet, unbelievable scenery and solitude. So, and here's the reason for the post - I'm trying to contact Lucas Dreyer, who was the first to post 'J-P's Loop' on Ganora's website, and hence how we go to know about it. If you are reading this Lucas, please contact me via the Hub messenger service. If others have contact details fro Lucas, please sent to me. Thanx, Russ RussD1. Compassberg with snow Oct 2017.docx

    Who remembers?

(Bump) Who remembers? An oldie but goodie. Spent loads of brass there ... .
  16. (Bump) OMTOM: in the 2000's there was a historical record of all previous OMTOM ultra finishers: 'Captain's Log' or similar, it was called. Is this still produced, and, if so, is there an electronic version available? Anyone got a link? Thanx.
  17. Hi, Has anyone ridden Swaershoek Pass, in the direction away from Cradock? We are looking at 'slack-touring' from Cradock to PE in the spring. Any input/advice on the Pass would be appreciated. I already understand that there is some significant climbing to be done. Ta.
  18. Ouzo, If you are looking for another wooden, wall-mountable medal cabinet, contact me, as I have one for sale. RussD1. 082 5678 859.
  19. Apologies in advance if this should not be posted here. My mate is looking for an entry for the Birchwood 21k which is this coming Sunday, 22nd April. He's a club member and hence a registered athlete, so would want to do the sub legitimately. Can you help? Thanx, Russ.
  20. Cramers Coffee is corner of Harrison and Main, basically. Agree about the hectic cycling in town. I only ever commute just before Christmas when roads are quiet. Cramers hope to open on Sundays soon, so that could make it a viable stop on a ride.
  21. Morning. I'd hoped that the new-found impetus of this thread would be sustained. Latest offering for a quality coffee shop: Cramers Coffee, Marshalltown (downtown Jozi CBD) - killer Americanos. Not that many cyclists get there ... .
  22. We are all losers, as Café Trieste (Greenside) has closed its doors. Used to love hanging there with the paddlers, mtbikers, roadies, fellow runners. Anyone know why, or if the premises will be taken over by another coffee shop enterprise? R.
  23. (Topic change): Hi, I'm looking for some weekend-away races in 2018. Has anyone done any of the races at Aldam (Free State)? If so, what are they like? Well organized? Run on tar or gravel? Any input would be appreciated. Thanx. Russ.
