  1. They are UP
  2. yep. My fd is dropped as much as it can be. Maybe I should shorten the chain even more? How do I know how long it should be? It only happens now and then. But as old murphey works, it is not normally at the best of times. Ok, I just want to run over this shifting thing again. If I am in 21 or 23 at the back and in 50 at the front am I more likely to drop it going into the 34 then? Opposed to being in 15 at the back while doing it or something. Surely the chain being at a bigger angle (15 or smaller to the 34) will make it jump off easier? Other question. With this fang thing. Will the chain fall onto the hook, or will it just not be able to move off the small ring towards the frame?
  3. Where can I get one of these neat little plastic things? I want one. I also drop a chain now and then. Normally at the worst of times as well. Chain length is fine and so is limit screws. But the chain just seems to like hopping all the way down on my compact. I never dropped my chain on the 53/39 but now on the 50/34 it happens now and then.
  4. If you are riding road then you dont really have much choice though. Alot of people are gatvol, so its time that we got some more offers on the table for road events.
  5. Well, I dont know if pushing for more events will do much. Isnt this post about them being slack as to start off with? What we actually need is a winter league. That will secure events and it will give organisers the peace of mind that there will be people riding even if it is raining.
  6. & also it is the last road race for the season so people feel they want to do it before hanging up their road bikes for a while. We really need to see more winter road events. I have got no problem with riding in winter. Even a bit of bad weather is fine. The rain is still better than the south easter anyway. What ever happened to those time trials that pedal power used to run?
  7. Some people have been waiting to get reseeded before this weekends race so that they could give their seeding a nice little boost at the end of the season. We are going to have to wait some time again before this weekends race will be included as well. I was looking forward to going through, but I am not going to bother anymore. Been moving the last week. Late nights, loads of junk food. No exercise so I am in a very bad shape now.
  8. We need another company to offer some competition to them now. We can see in SA that monopolies dont work. Lets get some more options on the table and then we will see them finally pull up their socks.
  9. Haha, calf muscles..... rather the lack of them. Shaun Oakes, If you want to work your upper leg more than your calf, then move your cleat further back on your shoes. Oh, sorry I forgot. That wont apply to you. Awesome people only wear flip flops when they cycle. But with all of that said, If you are indeed going to try to cycle to prove how easy it is. Then good for you. Also, why dont you grace us with your awesomeness at the road race that we are having on the 10th of april? It is a 98km race with only one real hill. The pros should do it in a nice 2.5 hours or so. If YOU can finish it UNDER 4 hours and debunk the cycling is hard myth then I will pay for your race entry and timing chip, hey, I will even throw in a 6 pack as well for your good effort. here is the info mr. awesome. 10. What about putting some tri bars onto your mtb. After all, you are not mtbing anymore on it, so its not like you are scared of falling and trashing them. I have been thinking of doing this. I commute to work on my roadie, but because of the road condition at places I want to get off the road. So I have put slicks on my mtb and it is ready to be used for that. I think I will look into the tri bars thing as there is some pretty long stretches where getting lower down will definitely help big time.
  11. Marius There is a group of guys in durbanville area or round abouts that rides together. You can catch them on this thread. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=57077&PID=1135755#1135755
  12. Does that include me. Hijack off. Well if you want to go on another hunt to find your stolen bike, then by all means. I can help you by drawing a pirates treasure map for you of where you may find your bike in DuNoon. But maybe stay away from the big X though. I think even cycling through a dodge area in a group could be dicey. What if your attackers have knives? or worse a gun? They will hold the whole group hostage and take everything then.
  13. & then lick your hands clean?
  14. WC, Ill PM you my address. Reply with your banking details and I will deposit the postage and a box of smarties. Shot man.
  15. Thanks guys, You are probably right. Foam would compress, leather would start to go miff. Not quite sure if I want to sell it as this saddle really is great for the shorter ride. But weight weenie, if you want me to take that old one off your hands I am more than happy to. Where are you in the country? I will obviously pay for postage and I will give you a box of smarties for your kind offer. I'll keep you guys updated if I do anything By the way, Where is JB? Is he working at the epic?
  16. Bump. Or in fact 2 (one on each sit bone) Need some advice guys.....
  17. I have been thinking about it. They say it is super comfy. But I am that DIY (destroy it yourself) kind of guy. So I wouldnt mind giving the recover a bash. But there is a chance though that I might stuff it up as well I suppose. So does anyone have some leather for me? I will make a post on the hub how to do it then. haha
  18. Yep. Yep. You see when I bought it I thought that enough time on the saddle would make it all ok. But it just seems like it is not working that way at all. It is so so super nice to use every day (for shorter rides) But even thinking about doing the DC this year is giving me a sick numbing feeling in my lower regions. So ya, I dont care about the weight anymore, but I cant really afford to buy another saddle, ive just bought a house. So I recon that a piece of leather could work. Anyone have a offcut lying at home for me?
  19. Thought about both of those options. SLR is still pricey, even second hand. My saddle is still a bit lighter than it as well. With the padding it will probably be around the same weight and comfort level. But also, who is going to want to buy a saddle anyway that is going to bruise you on long rides?
  20. Thanks man. But I am being serious though..... It is very hard. I think some nice white leather over there would look pretty hot. Will match my bar tape then. I was even thinking of doing it myself, but I dont really want to screw it up though. If I had to do it myself, I would maybe use that thin stuff they put under laminated flooring. Just stick one layer of that on and then stretch a piece of leather over that, glue it on and cut to size and fold and glue to the inside. Any ideas? Do you think that foam stuff will work or will it compress? Come on DIY guys.
  21. I have a carbon fiber saddle. The kind where you can see the carbon and it has no padding at all. It works great in that I have never had any chaff what so ever. But the bad side is that my bum takes some serious abuse for long rides (3 hours up) You have to take painkillers for the DC. I use it every day, so 8 hours plus a week, but it still makes no difference for the long events. Does anyone know if someone could cover it for me. Maybe just a very thin layer padding and a layer a leather. Even if it is just a little I am sure it will make a difference.
  22. Wow, at least you are safe. I never go past du noon.
  23. Yep. Already decided that if it is boys and bad wind next year, then I am going to do a booze cruise from the beginning. Pity that I only decided in simonstown to drop off. It would have been so lekker to do it from before wineberg hill because there is such a lekker spirit from there already. Looking forward to sunday, are you? Bit nervous, never done a tight crit. But if anything it will be good for me. Do you think we will even get a chance to drink on the ride? it is going to be a super hard 45 min.
  24. ? Breakfast - here. Brunch - there. Lunch - overthere and pudding in Campsbay.... With cokes and messages inbetween. Now you started something! If the SE is going crazy in 2011 - we must do this next year! Im getting hungry already. Im hoping that the wind is going to pump now. haha
  25. Yeah! Booze cruise here we come Maybe we should congregate at a restaurant then and make the best of it!
