  1. Looks like a vuvuzela smoking a hubly.
  2. Is your light working again?
  3. Been riding the whole week as well. It has been really nice. How freaking cold was it on tuesday though.
  4. I remember reading some stuff a year or two back how you could decrypt the mnet signal with a tv card and software. Never got around to trying it, but what I could sniff out at the time is that people were getting it to work quite well. The dstv thing would probably be the same kind of vibe. Find the encryption and with the software and you are good to go. Well of course provided that you have that satellite card thingy. Getting back to more important things. Who is going to give me the highlights that they are recording?
  5. mmmm.... For some reason I totally misread the price earlier. I really need some more sleep. R180 is really not that bad at all. For that price it is not really worth wasting your time building something.
  6. Flip, those are seriously expensive. Why dont we just build one ourselves. Still use the compressed bottle thing, but then run the air hose up to a cheap whistle or something. With a bit of air pressure even a normal whistle would hit some serious db's. How would we control the air flow though? Does anyone know of a nice air valve type thing that we can use to invoke the noise?
  7. I have never bitched once about dstv. I think that the content on there is sometimes a little limited but the reality is that I am never going to have time in a normal day to watch it. For something special like this though, I am dying to see a bit of magic happening. For next year I am even contemplating getting dstv just for the month. So if anyone is recording it to their pc, please let me know!
  8. mmmm.... I wonder if we all see our names at the beginning now? Never used to be like that.
  9. Yep, I often used to see guys going across there.
  10. Been commuting for about a year now as well. Do it as often as I can. Road bike mostly, but I do venture out on the MTB sometimes. 20 km each way. If you have two motor cars, leave the one at work if it is safe there. Then leave whatever you may need in the boot. Week supply of clothes, towel etc etc. You also have a car on standby then if you need to go somewhere. Also cutting a few kg off your pack really saves your lower back. Cut open a old water bottle and put all your heavy tools in there. You may need chain breakers, multitools etc etc if you are riding everyday. So rule of thumb for me is get everything that I can that is heavy and bike related onto the bike and it saves your back big time. Also lights, lights, lights. The more the better.
  11. Old people just dont seem to feel the cold anymore. Maybe their nerves have died as well. When I go diving with my dad he just doesnt get cold. I have booties on, proper gloves, freezing my ass off. The one day I even saw that his top was coming open and cold water was flowing in and he didnt even know.
  12. I dont have dstv, so I am so bummed that I cant get the highlights of whats happening. Is anybody recording it to their PC that I can grab it from? I have uncapped 384 at home, so I could use that to download updates, but the best stuff I have found on the web so far has been little 2 min things on the crashes etc. Want I really want is the full hour highlights that I can watch nicely in one go.
  13. Looks like I am first in the list right now. So I am coming first then? Most probably because I leave my work pc on almost the whole time. Pity those extra hours in the site arent doing anything for my post count.
  14. I think that cigarette is about as safe as his helmet.
  15. This is a tough question. How much do you want to see? I have a little thing on my head which maybe delivers 100 lumens (a guess) It is good enough at low speeds (yes maybe 15km/h) to see bricks in the road etc. Going up to 30km/h you start missing potholes etc so it is almost useless. My bud has recently put together a light which has 7 xpg leds in it and it delivers about 2000 odd lumens. Very nice and bright!! Riding next to him (or anywhere around him actually) at 30km/h or even more you can see every stone in the road etc. Wonderful! But sticking the light down to 500MA (1200MA on full power) it leaves you feeling a bit in the dark. Still delivering close to 1000lumens probably, but the contrast between the two is pretty drastic. Still heaven compared to headlight and you can see everything, but I like blinding cars. He has also built another light so we have had enough rides to come up with some conclusions. For us, we want to have close to 1000 lumens to ride on the road at speed. You can see enough (stones etc) and you are super visible. Remember the road is black so it doesnt reflect light. So you really need the extra punch. I borrowed a friends majicshine the other day as well. On high power it is fine (maybe 750 lumens). Mid power (guessing 300 odd) leaves you wondering when you are going to hit a brick at speed. Low speed is all the same. Even a small cheap LED headlight is good enough but as your speed increases so the lumens requirements seems to almost go up exponentially.
  16. Nice to have you back. Didnt Onetime get reincarnated as "Painking" or something? That is just so funny!!
  17. Cant wait to get myself a decent light either. I have had a few rides with my friends that are packing some serious lumens and now I just dont want to go back to my normal "candle light" in comparison. It has even put me off riding by myself early on the weekends. Once you have had that "car headlight" on your bars it is just so sad to go back to a a little flashy thing.
  18. Maybe, ..... or maybe he wants to focus on trying to win the argus.....
  19. Haha. Same here. Although I am all for the idea. I had a large SA flag attached to my helmet for a few days in my daily commutes, but it was catching on trees and stuff so I took it off.
  20. Dont worry. I am also looking for a reason to renew. I suppose I will be bullied into it when it comes to racing season again because we dont have much choice. But for now I am just going to watch if anything plays out of all of this.
  21. Nice new look! But where can I find my PM's though? Looks like they are gone?
  22. There is actually a set of 420's going for such a steal. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=71732&PN=1 I would take them but I am happy with my 350's
  23. Typical hubber... Always wants to know what it weighs.
  24. Ive only had good dealings through the hub. Probably about 10K if I had to guess (selling and buying) Chances are if something looks suspect then it probably is. Dont try to buy 3 R5 coins for 4K..... (That was a actual post last week!) That is not going to end well
  25. I also wondered that. I wonder if I student is putting the idea through as a project. They will gather the stats etc for a project and ppa will get the results. Bit of a win win situation for them two but not for us cyclists though. I found the questions were more like - tell us how great we are.
