  1. ok. I am going to experiment with latex this weekend. Lets see if I can come up with something.
  2. Pretty much the procedure I follow. But I still find that it is a hit and miss if it works or not. Patched one really well the other day and put it in and rode bike and it was all cool. Next day I left my bike in the car and the heat in the car made the patch fail so that when I dragged my bike out the wheel was flat. Dont seem to be winning here.
  3. Over the past while I have tried to patch quite a few road tubes but most of the time the patch fails. Its as if the glue just doesnt stick properly to the butel anymore or something. I have also tried those little peel and stick things but they seem to work even worse. Chucking a tube after a puncture is flipping expensive so I really want to try and get some more life out of my old tubes. Any ideas? I had a idea of maybe inflating the tube slightly to reveal where the hole is and then injecting 1ml liquid latex into that hole with an injection needle and then turning the hole to face down so that the latex would then form a "internal" patch where it would dry on the inside of the tube. Anyone ever try something like this? I am not going to use slime in my tubes, so dont even suggest it. After a little while it blocks up the valves and I can bearly pump the tyres up then. So I am not going back there again.
  4. The spokes/nipples dont look corroded but maybe I should give it a go anyway. Where should I put the oil? Should I pull the rim strip off or should I just put some on the outside? Does the hub ever need oiling? It is a sealed bearing so I dont suppose so but I just want to check.
  5. I am starting to get the feeling that the complaints that I have heard about am classic sprint 350's hubs could be correct. I changed my front bearing two months ago and yesterday I started to hear the noise again that sounds like your magnet is hitting your speed sensor. When I got the bearings changed last time the sound went away so I know that it is that yet again. People say because the bearings are so small they dont last long, but two months only........ thats going to be a pain in the ass. If I had to ride with the sound for a few days, could anything bad happen? Can you get stronger bearings that will last longer? or should I just get the front hub changed to something stronger and keep the rim and get it respoked? (could be a little costly though) Ideas?

    Brake Pads

Wow. Dont know if I really like the idea of my brake pads "burning" up on a long decent. Carbon looks nice but there is just too many niglies in my mind. I think I will stick to normal rims.
  7. Me. Cytopower and Vooma Why? Because I can and it works for me.
  8. I eat those jungle oats type bars on races, the kind with oats etc. I used to prefer the "Lite" ones as they didnt have chocolate on them. The chocolate can become terrible on a hot day and most times you want something that is not that sweet. Also use gels and energy drink. Longer rides - DC - I will eat sandwiches as well. Even hotdogs. Well anything actually, as long as it doesnt taste sweet
  9. Ok, I have been following these comments and each one I read makes me feel nervous about touching my bikes now. I hope that you are ok and recovering well. I read somewhere that it was ritchey bars? Was it standard or oversize bars - it is hard to see in the pic. What would be stronger - oversize or standard? I am running very light oversize ritchey wcs 4axis stem and wcs logic II bars. Do I have reason to start worrying?
  10. Dirtgirl' date=' how is this that different from somebody advertising something else on the hub? Lots of people use the hub as a avenue to make revenue. Ben is not even making money from this. He is still busy studying and I believe that this research is going towards his masters. VO2 test are pretty expensive so to get 4 free ones with doing not that much for them is a big bonus. It is difficult to get people to sign up for testing programs, so lets not shoot him in the foot. Also, just by the way guys - The submaximal tests are really nothing at all. It really wont affect anyones performance. Maybe it will even do you some good to spin out the legs. [/quote'] Woofie... There are lots of things you need to understand when it comes to research. I am not referring to him being allowed to advertise on the hub...but if he has the approval from an Ethics Committee to advertise on say the internet, flyers, posters.... (specifically asking for the hub here) There are lots of procedures required before a study can be conducted say for medicine?sports?science.. Getting the necessary approvals from the necessary regulatory bodies are essential to keep volunteers participating in these trials, safe...and to ensure the procedures during these studies are ethical?.and to ensure that the right qualified people are running a study. Specifying your advertising methods is one of those requirements. At the end of the day?..I'm just looking out for you. Ahhh Sorry I had the wrong end of the stick there.

  12. just ask Woofie how not to do it! Silicone in the cuts only' date=' not the whole tyre, he will tell you after his slip & slide experience! [/quote'] Yep, trust me. Dont go heavy on the silicon. If you on that section while turning hard, you will eat lots of tar! If the cut is really big, patch it from the inside and then fill the cut with super glue. I am too scared to put the silicon anywhere near my bike again. I too have been going through loads of glass for the last month though. It is crazy I am often having to ride in the car section of the road to avoid the big chunks of it. Really bad. I really dont want to become other RIP on the hub....... I think they should start putting a R5 deposit on every glass bottle sold, in that way people will take the bottle back so they can get the R5. Even if they cant reuse the bottle, it can at least be trashed somewhere else and not in the roads.
  13. yep I think the 38 dropped off all interested people! I think this approach would have been better. 2 hour relaxed rides doing the holidays..... Nice and flat ride with coffee and scone breaks along the way....
  14. brrrr.....
  15. Very sad. Its time they do something drastic like change the national speed limit - and enforce it. The road deaths this year is disgusting. When are they going to start putting measures in place to start reducing this carnage.
  16. But you can put salt on its tongue
  17. I agree with you being so upset. These people are also meant to be our role models and if they are not using protection then what kind of example are they setting. I cycled past a guy the other day that never had a helmet on. He was just trying to look like the man with his peak cap on. I gave him a mouthfull and he then said that he would go and buy a helmet that day. What the freak is up with that anyway? I even see some idiots at races with there peak caps on until the last minute before they start racing. And then as soon as the race is finished the helmet is off and the peakie is back on. It really makes me angry. I saw a pedastrian that had just got knocked down the other day. His body was still in the road not covered up nothing. He died because his head took the impact on the windscreen. And you know what. The point of impact is the same as cycling. You are at the same height and 7 times out of 10 you are going to hit your head if you go down like that.
  18. Some Roadies. There are some of us who know what to do with our money.... I agree, I am happy with my mostly aluminium RC9000. The plastic bits are the pieces that cause me to worry the most.
  19. Well done!
  20. Flip, that cant be good. The only reason that they climb so well is because they probably weigh less than their bikes!
  21. Something is very wrong there Look at my recent seeding results.
