  1. Mike Patey and what he does is just ridiculous
  2. Ja/nee, Another constant about the blind eye is that it is often still turned after all the signs are ignored and when the end comes; quickly. Storey is that women could not get a hair appointment in Singapore one day before the Japanese captured the city. 2021 worries me so much I will have to buy a new (motorised) bike just in case.
  3. Lekker Gnarly, Bolt seems like quite a character.

and I think AM will be pleased to see the season end so he can rest his, dare I say it, monkey stump. Seemed to take a beating in his highside.

Ha ha Dovi had all the kit to beat Marc but couldn't; Miller, Zarco, Petrucci etc couldn't either and still can't make much of an impression. Mostly they cannot do better overall than Dovi. Dovi finished second to the amazing MM twice but he can move along but Rossi needn't. Ducati are just piss poor managers of riders and it is a lot about the showmanship.
  6. Can also be done with compressed air for motorcycle grips; on & off (googly is your friend). I also see lock on grips (first I saw were Spez 12 years ago or so) have made it to dirt bikes; finally!
  7. I have an Optimate 3+ but have changed to a "Lithium Iron" battery (I am too lazy to check the detail) on one bike so considering a charger that can top up those. Battery much smaller and lighter and, so far works like er, a bomb (sic). Should need less topping up as well.
  8. These hand injuries always remind me - wear those mechanics gloves, even washing the bike as water seems to soften the skin and easy to graze. Tubeless tales. Well, going against plenty of advice and YouTube, Gorilla tape is not the cure all for me. I applied it but maybe took the tensioning a bit too seriously resulting in a few scuffed areas. The tyre would hold air but even with sealant, gradually go flat. Peeled off the Gorilla tape; man that stuff leaves a nasty glue!. .Eventually cleaned the rim and bought the semi transparent genuwine rim tape so you can see the air gaps; squeezed them out and now the tyre is holding (just checked). Patched the tube for a spare (ja Mr Borman) and, hopefully, we are in business. Conclusion. Still cannot get a tubeless tyre to seat with only a floor pump (it is a beast of a tyre at 1kg) and without sealant a tubeless tyre will not stay up (mine anyway). Will hold but slow leaks around the bead.
  9. Good to hear - I have tinnitus and riding does not help it but my ear holes seem too small for the foam plugs, even well rolled, squeezed and licked that thing will just not go in far enough (the ear plugs that is ) so a moulded set may be the answer.
  10. Very interesting fred; the lives of modern day Great Trekkers. But may I ask two questions about emigration? What is the feeling about when NZ will "open" up to international travel or migration from SA? Any thoughts on the teaching profession in NZ? Neither for me but interested tribesman.
  11. Then you've seen the bicycle connection - downhill bike that he built and currently a rear shock. His son is in the bicycle business I gather. Amazing guy; I would like to know his background.
  12. Don't forget the body boarders - SA has churned out 3 or 4 recent World Champs; latest (and another now resident elsewhere) from WC methinks. Bummer covid stopped the competitions as WC has come on strong as well as talk of a World event.

Thanks for the great anecdote; Darryn is right up there but seems to lack finesse . They fly the flag for SA and Brad has been clear on his love for SA in his interviews which is good to hear. A comment on the reaction times is that I understand (and open to correction) that the aliens reactions are not much better than the normal person but they know what to do. Refer Vanessa Guerre's simple test and the Clarkson interview with Michael Shumacher (ha ha).
  14. Cave Rock can be a real challenge on big days; getting into the water safely, catching a wave safely then getting out. But I overheard a Bluff local complaining that with Crazy Covid rules where the beach was prohibited, Cave Rock was one place fishermen could almost cast into the sea from the road so it was packed, "shoulder to shoulder" with Durban's version of pap gooiers. Viva NDZ!
  15. I have stocks to replenish with some orders (Tanagra & Springfield) in. Any recommendations of good wines at good prices and a "deserving" (smallish, owner run) estate would be gratefully received.
  16. I liked the clean lines of the Ron Wood flat track bikes http://thekneeslider.com/images/ronwoodflattracker.jpg

Sjoe, that gave me a tension headache and Tafel is not the best cure; thank goodness lockdown has limited my supply. I am sooo pleased for Brad; what a ride!!
  18. Sani Pass. Current "tarring" is only to SA border but that is enough of a mess (and a cost north of R600m I think). There is a plan to surface the real pass (why I do not know - NDZ type logic) and current cost estimates are around R1bn; ja/nee. I have walked, 4x4 and dirt biked it but never bicycled Sani so it is on the list. As an added test maybe take a jaunt to the Southern African high point (Thabana Ntlenyana); 12km or so away (as Mr Crow flies - it is tar road and a slog otherwise. Much pushing methinks; only done it on a dirt bike. Lots of info etc from AfriSki.

Just about - had the abbreviation OTP; overturned while pissed.
  20. Those were great bikes; good engines but heavy and with so so suspension. Okes like Gray Dick could ride anything with two wheels faster than most; I won't comment about number of legs. As for Mr Joffe and Bidvest I heard he was unceremoniously kicked out and very grumpy about it after getting into a costly pissing match. Can't remember the details.

Hmmm, crazy men; they better not do any dope testing methinks. Although to be fair about 50% of the stupid stuff I have done was unassisted by chemicals.
  22. Obviously depending on where you ride, coverage is a key issue. It is very easy and frustrating to be out of cell phone (GSM?) coverage (I know this from being on site at a serious Sani2c accident where you were in sight of a main road but no cell phone reception unless you hauled up a local hill). Not lekker if not moving easily (ill or crashed). Cost goes up as coverage and options improve.
  23. Must be nippy up there at the minute; fantastic trails (tricky when wet), thank you Hylton. Many good times had there.
  24. I crushed a few vertebrae in an accident around 40 years ago and the doc told me I'd never ride a dirt bike again. Well I rode in my body cast; stupid I know. Bottom line though he also gave me a set of exercises I still - mainly stretching. Since then I rode enduros and dirt bikes, hiked with a backpack and MTB aplenty. Some pain and panic at first but very little trouble since then; still exercise and Pilates, watch my weight. You'll be good!!
  25. RIP to the 17 year old girl, on a solo training flight; crashed and killed sadly in Pretoria. Dreams gone.
