  1. I'm not sure that the coaches indaba is planned or thought out. I suspect it's more of a "everyone says it's a good thing so let's have one". Blind leading the blind, monkey see, monkey do cargo cultists to mix a metaphor or two. But who knows? Hope springs eternal. What I have seen in my little world is how interest has been lost. After a Saturday ride, eventually someone asked a spectator what the score was and they had to google it. It wasn't a surprise and there was minimal discussion about it.
  2. Apologies if already posted but this sort of sums it up http://www.supersport.com/rugby/blogs/gavin-rich/What_gives_New_Zealand_an_advantage also as someone said watching last week; for a while anyway. "If you kick at least kick accurately - don't these guys ever practice?" Although maybe it is the coaching that is lacking.

Eddy; one of the things BiB commented on after the race was how his team got his gearing spot on for the circuit and this enabled him to be quicker than other riders in crucial places.
  4. Oupa seems energetic and keen but overseas comment is that he is heading for a red card or a ban for his tackling.
  5. You got Oirish blood? that ginger nut in the last pic
  6. @Moridin re damp proofing. I am with Grumpy as I have had quite a few requests to assess damp issues and being conservative, always recommended the "probeer weer" route. But one guy had a problem similar to yours and I did have reasonable dealings with Flick so put him onto them; no professional recommendation. He reported back that they had injected magic muthi in the walls and possibly floor, but that it had worked well; very well. He was a fussy old bugger but ended up happy. Some of the magic muthi's are magic. The stuff to seal reservoirs literally hardens in the water stream (well, trickle) and blocks the leak (not good if the structure is reinforced of course).
  7. Based on comment from pilots trying to get radio licence renewals, ICASA are properly useless in keeping with SA ANC government tradition.

Stoked for Binder in Moto3 as it was a very tough race. MotoGP; nice to see the Duck's cause a bit of word eating; interesting race in the early stages for sure. Either Ducati did a bit of work in the break or the circuit suited them + luck?
  9. I am more of a bush carpenter than woodworker but find the books by James Krenov really interesting. Worth a read IMHO.

At this stage the only KTM I am worried about (besides mine) are Brad Binder's in Moto 3. They better keep going. An SA World Champ would really be something!!
  11. Mntboy - "Somehow think that John Smit ain't (wasn't) the easiest guy to work for." or the brightest looking at the sharkies. Comes across as a bit of an arrogant pr1ck in mtb races where I've encountered him.
  12. I don't want to quibble but Into Thin Air isn't really a climbing book. The Everest books I enjoyed were the Hunt, Bonnington, Messner (imagine him on an MTB! ) books. Hardcore was Boukreev in the Krakauer book (the Eiger Dreams was also good), then Joe SImpson (Touching the Void) and Peter Hillary getting down after falls. The old books by Buhl, Rebuffat, Harrer, Patey, Whillans, Diemberger, Unsworth and more recently Viesturs are good value. Big death toll though. Even the mad Swede (Goran Kropp) who cycled to the Himalaya to climb Everest, solo, without bottled O. 4king sad. Lucky I never pushed on in climbing; one mountain rescue was enough.
  13. From my limited perspective it was interesting to see that England beat Australia using Jake White (maybe they too were Eddie's; but he was associated with cute back line play in the 2007 RWC) type tactics (from the possession and tackle stats anyway). Let them have the ball then tackle the crap out of them, force penalties and have a reliable kicker/great maul.
  14. "competed at a few world champs in my younger years and was drug tested multiple times and was clean every time" now this reminds me of someone; who was it now?
  15. Well, here is another excuse for you dope hounds: How do you rate it 5/10? http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/rugby-player-blames-biltong-for-positive-drugs-test-20160516
  16. For the real ballies that remember Dirt Bike when Rick Super Hunky Sieman (RIP) was editor I think they had an article on Maico who built a 700 or 750cc bike to dethrone BMW in that class in the then ISDT (now ISDE and no more 750 class). Well Rick got hold of the Maico to ride in the infamous Blackwater 100 and did a write up. That particular bike wasn't a great fire breathing machine being set up for enduro but it was all interesting; as I remember anyway.

Obviously you would need more talent or ballas to manage a MotoGP bike without all the electronic aids; like those 500 and 750 (short lived) 2 strokes back in the day. They killed a few and crippled plenty. But when you see these guys today sliding a MotoGP bike (any road race bike actually), pushing the front at 180kph; I respect that.

After Moto3 the GP was a snorefest but lucky for FFWD. I have no rider I really follow but Rossi was just masterful and grumpy Lorenzo also had a whine about his tyre, on the straights it seemed he said it felt like being in the wet. Marquez starting to look like he's learning something about controlling himself so will be hard to beat for the title I reckon. But Lorenzo and Rossi cannot be discounted just yet obviously.

Wow, I was terrified he'd lose it or get taken out and could hardly watch the second half of the race. . Funny the anthem though, bet no one was prepared for an SA win from last on the grid. Hope they didn't stuff a 350 motor in the KTM.
  20. Nice bike Marvin; very nice. One comment - if you are planning to put on crash protection (if not on already) do it straightaway. It is soooo painful to scratch a brand new bike unnecessarily.
  21. R3 000 per test sounds cheap. I'm paying around R5 000 a time for quite comprehensive (not fully comprehensive mind you) water tests and for a number of elements they do not register below say between 0.05 and 0.001mg/litre, depending on the element or compound etc.
  22. Re generics: "It has to have the same active ingredients as the original, is subject to the same regulation............". I was told slightly different. They don't have to be EXACTLY the same; particularly as regards ingredient quality, down to grinding fineness, maybe binders etc etc. Not all generics are exactly the same, or have the same effects as the "original". Told to me by someone who sold generics. But off topic be interesting to have an informed comment.
  23. Interesting and obviously a little sad and depressing. Interesting as it would be good to see the levels of prohibited substances and the amount that had to have been taken to give these levels (obviously there is a time factor). Then it would be interesting (that word again) to know what products GUARANTEE there will be no banned substances in them. Finally a list of the TUE's issued would be um, interesting. Finally, interesting would be to see if they tested the whole field in say the Epic, how many would glow. My guess would be more in the back markers than the front. I'm not on any serious medication but have been (matters were er, serious when it was applied so I didn't dicker about its components) so don't know if it was "banned" and how long it will be detectable, therefore I ain't throwing no stones. So someone could rise up from 567th to 566th! or something.
  24. Ah well, second in India and second in this series. Not too bad and still better than Bafana in world rankings; for now anyway. Lol.
  25. Hectic vid; that car driver must have needed new shorts. I can't see any catch fence stopping that thing. Even the roofed section could have a re-think.
