  1. wtf .................... I see I'm listed as DNF. I did finish .......... both laps??
  2. effectively, when you drive drunk you are not insured.......... !! This leads to all sorts of problems so if a drunk hits you it means your insurance takesthe knock ............. weird, no?
  3. my medical costs were nearly R1/2 million after a car accident in Portugal and now med aid and Int SOS say case closed even though there are still little things like joints that don't work so good and funny lumps and bumps I want fixed under warranty. Med Aid always pays less than doctors, specialist and surgeons etc charge so factor in things like that before you agree to anything
  4. I can't find anything whatsoever on myrace
  5. A dent in any tube will weaken it. Dents are sometimes used on purpose but a dent will alter both the torsional rigidity and bending properties. The need for lighter, stronger, more rigid frames has led to complex hydroformed structural tubes to increase strength and decrease weight. Because of this today's aluminium frames are regarded as unrepairable once they've been dented or even severely scraped down a road enough to leave deep gouges in the metal.
  6. I guess there were no medals because there are no results ............... or have I missed something. A lot of people have asked, but no one has said where we can find results and I just phoned MSC but they aren't answering their phone!!
  7. ............. and still no indication as to where we might find results!!
  8. ............... I didn't even get a keyring!!
  9. Value ............ well I wouldn't buy a Tshirt for R50 never mind R125. Sure there was a tent, the race was well marked and well organised (I got to the start early). On the last lap the water point halfway round the lap had run out of whatever it had by the time I passed on my second lap. First lap was quite chaotic due to the sheer number of riders - and some arrogant tosshead rode over the back of my foot in the little technical bit when everyone decided to walk it on lap one ...... but he tried to barge past everyone. YOU, MR IDIOT!! ...... were wearing a red shirt and need to have your eyes tested. Or as one chap said, you've got taxi driver mentality. ......... there, I got that off my chest, but my heel is still sore!steve2007-09-02 09:03:50
  10. Fun riders who are not yet licensed with Cycling South Africa, will not be charged a R30 temporary license fee to take part in the PowerAde Dome2Dome Cycling Spectacular, which takes place on 16 September ........... now why did I get charged R30.00 to do some stupid mtb race that was unrideable in sections a couple of months ago? I was told at Cycle Lab number collection that I had to buy a temporary licence otherwise no ride. But now it seems as though one doesn't have to have a licence - what exactly is a fun rider? Believe it or not but I ride for fun. I know I'm not going to win so I do it for the enjoyment. Another point, if I buy a license why don't I get a number board with it and then keep this number for the rest of the year instead of having to try remember what number I was last week or the week before??? steve2007-08-29 00:50:27
  11. I entered the Spring Classic, but it is unlikely that I'll wear the T shirt. I'd much rather have an affordable entry fee and the option to buy the shirt. Why should I be forced to buy a shirt I don't want?
  12. My wife hates it when I come home with empty and sticky gel sachets in my shirt pocket and then dump everything in the washing mashine ..... but I do that rather than leave it for some poor animal to choke on!! Funny thing is that riders only seem to leave rubbish behind in races. Where I ride I seldom see any mtb trash lying around although there's lots of tyre tracks.
  13. I rode the 28km Urban Assault on Sunday. I did not pre-enter so the entry fee was R100. As I live in the East Rand I only decided to do the event because it was advertised as being 35km and I know there are a few hills in the area. Only after I did my entry (PAID) did I hear it was now a 27km race so off I went to where I entered and I asked for R20.00. As my race was now 20% less I thought I should get a 20% refund on my entry fee . They all looked at me like I was silly so I asked why it had been shortened and was told it was because they didn't get permission to use 'the quarry'. "When did they find out?" I asked, and much to my surprise some guy standing behind me said they knew over a week ago. My points is: I would not have bothered with the race if it was only 28 km and if I had've known the 75km race was only 54km I might have considered that option although I'm not particularly keen on doing the same lap twice. Now I see the results have me as nearly half an hour slower than my Polar!!
  14. I checked on the net and it is the VDO Cytec MC1.0 Altimeter I'm looking for, but anyone know who stocks VDO or who are the importers/agents
  15. Is there anything reasonably priced that has the facility to record altitude climb/decent etc. I know Cateye or something similar had a model with all the basics i.e speed, distance and altitude. I don't want to spend lots of money as I already have a Polar hrm (CS200).
  16. .......... you see - and I've never been to Logwood, don't know Geoff the Aussie either. From the East Rand where we get the sun first and leave you lot with the left overs!! I'm a human and I've met a few others so I think I know there's allways 2 sides to every story!!
  17. Whoa ............ was the venue booked for a birthday party of 25? Could we hear Logwood's side ........
  18. if you look at a map' date=' we're kinda on top of one. ok, it's a really big one, and it isn't called a mountain. but come on, there's such beaut riding to be had here, who needs a race?[/quote'] ............. my driveway's 400m higher than that silly unfinished mountain down there, but do I market my diveway as a tourist attraction??? But I was wondering why there's so few mtb races up heresteve2007-08-15 13:24:02
  19. So Gauteng is supposedly the economic hub of SA. It also has the largest population and the bright lights of Johannesburg and Pretoria not forgeting the gateway to SA, Ortia international construction site (used to be known as JHB Int) and the Gravy Express (aka Gautrain). We get it all up here including snow!! So, can anyone explain why there's no MTB racing here? Both the Dome and now Bekker Schools races have been cancelled. I only heard today that my Saturday had suddenly now become raceless!!
  20. Any one who is paid for doing something is regarded as a Professional. If you are a Pro rider and your contract is worth R534 889 over a full year then the answer is R44 574.92
  21. because some people chose not to wear them ................... do you go to church wearing a helmet??
