    Track racing

  3. Why isn't track racing more popular? It was an interesting and enjoyable day out - JHB Grand Prix is next month. I even tried to post a pic but was denied permission...............bliksem, didn't realise track racing was that unpopular!!!!
  4. "Slowpoke is pretty high on drugs right now" ................ah, so she's just a normal pro-cyclist then!!

    Mud tyres

Hey Dirt Rider, I also have this theory of thin tyres being better in mud as they also dig through the mud to the firm stuff and the benefit is the extra clearance, max I use on the back is 2.00x26 and the old 2.1 do duty on the front only because I haven't worn them out yet.
  7. Sa, for example, I owned Fountains Resort, and each day a bunch of mountainbikers arrived and broke basic rules of respect by destroying the vegetation and causing general erosion by not sticking to demarcated routes, I would then be very annoyed and not allow any mtbing to take place. If then some individuals approached me and said they were prepared to take responsibility, but only if access was restricted to members, I would be happy, but is it my responsibility to ensure the PTA Mbike Club is legit or accessible to the general MTB community?
  8. I am sick and tired of donating my spare tube to people who go on a ride without slime or a spare tube. At the Crater Cruise one clown borrowed my pump because he didn't have one, so now I do not stop in a race unless it is to help someone I know or a fellow club member. Twice in about the last six months I have lent someone my spare tube and on each occaision it was not replaced!!!

    Mud tyres

Us of the hairy legged fat tyre faith are faced with a dilema of note......... What tyres to use for muddy conditions? I've got Maxxis Larsen, which roll quite well and my spare is a Maxxis Ranchero which rolls even better, but neither of them are really good when it comes to the sticky, gloopy snot we have around JHB (shhhhh!! the name police haven't found us yet). What's good and what's bad for thw wet months?
  10. Its windy....................100%
  11. The age of innocence disappeared for good when some scantily clad female convinced some innocent dude to eat an apple.............. No one is innocent in any sport anymore. Chess players.......forget it, they take stuff to keep their minds sharp. Extreme Poker players are so doped they can lie with a straight face, cricketers get sent home and bowlers tamper with their balls. Race drivers get banned for taking steroids The Canadian Womens D/Hill champ was a man.........where will it end??
  12. Its quite amazing to read these posts and see how inconsistent the service is from Cajees - I've only ever bought small things from them and the service was never anything to write home about, but I didn't need it for what I wanted so I reckon its okay.............. much better than Sportsmans Warehouse!!
  13. This is the biggest lot of cr@p I have seen on this board!!!! Its amazing how stupid things like this amuse so many for so long.......I see we are on page five. Instead of wasting money on wristbands (I dont even wear a watch) why not put the effort and money into trying to promote the sport. Someone did have this train of thought in a previous post. Buying editorial space in a major daily like 'The Star' would be good start.
  14. The ultimate frustration is trying to buy anything from Sportsmans Warehouse...grrrrrrr!!!!
  15. Hi-Fi Corruption.........Here's another, try buying from Incredible Deception!!!! I bought my first bike from Makro and you should have heard the crap I was spun about bikes. Fortunately, a month later, I saw the light and now I've got two Silverbacks and a GT......the Makro Raleigh, well that was eventually dusted down and donated to the local church.
  16. I don't like going into any shop where I have to enter into a 10-minute conversation just to find out how much a bike costs and then when I say 'phew' I get asked how much I want to spend and the discussion has to start all over again. Not long ago Cajees near Eastgate had a Raleigh dual susp at over R1000 more than Raleigh's own recomended website listed price. I don't think Cajees is any cheaper in the long run
  17. Phew, wow, bliksem etc..................can you even buy the Manitou shock on the RDS5 frame for that price. Dunno what connection there is between Cajees and Raleigh, but it can't be easy for the real lbs owners out there who have been supporting Raleigh throughout the growth phase...........do they feel let down, I wonder?
  18. ................and while we wait the once mighty ZAR continues to lose chunks of value against the major currencies and all these bikes now cost 20% more than they would have a month ago...........
  19. Over R1500-00............................. new Raleigh RDS frame with shock about R4000 = no contest!!!
  20. The Free State flat!!!!! Bollocks to that idea, I climbed 997 metres (105km) and unless each corrugation in the road resgisters, then I think it was the never ending uphill grinds that are reflected on my hrm. I don't like corrugations, but if I wasn't being rattled to death I was fighting my way through soft sand - I'm not sure which is worse! I did sort of enjoy it though, each race has its own challenges.
  21. Excuse me for being ignorant, but what does Cyclg SA have to say about all this? Surely they (CSA) sanction events and issue permits etc to run them and if there are clashing dates then Cycling SA hasn't done its job properly. Is it not CSA's job to make sure everything about a race (sponsors/route/organisers etc) is in place before a permit is issued or the event is put onto the CSA calendar? How much control does Cycling SA have, or what does CSA do?

  24. So what...... Clint at Finish Line Cycles is a fellow cyclist and sells cycling stuff - so why not support him rather.
  25. I don't know how others feel, but I thought the MTB race at Northern Farms on Sunday was very good. I did the 30km and was impressed. The route was interesting with everything from fast downhills (with jumps!!) to sweeping singletrack and water-splashes. It was well marked and marshalling was good as well. Big thanks to everyone involved
