  1. after i'm done riding a trail built by that guy from Dirtopia, i often wish i had those hand guards too. I think he likes taking the piss on those with wider bars.
  2. i'm a bit meh about TG for the moment because it reminds me too much of The Tomorrow People. edit: ok. still interesting enough now that i finished watching that first ep. Those robot weapons are creepy as f!
  3. I have to agree. Ep 3 was genuinely interesting. I'm very game for the rest of it. Firing up the The Gifted later.
  4. no screen cap of that interesting looking hand guard presented in that same vid? Mr Wolf product or other. Like the coverage as it aims to protect brakes and gear levers as well. But not a fan of pointy edges.
  5. woa. that much twist, or did you enter a trance while planing and forgot about the time?
  6. Opening location is conveniently topical given the push for going interplanetary. was wondering if medusa can control the rest of her bodily hairs. Coitus could be as dangerous as it is for the wolf when "knotting". Poor thing.
  7. binge it. it's an interesting enough story. that mother and sister...
  8. Try hardware center. The cape town branch had two sizes in stock. unfortunately, i cannot recall those sizes.
  9. make no mistake,i splurged LV LA #62 jack plane. Amazing using it. Yet, I keep turning to the rehabilitated stanley #3 for anything and everything. I think i'm telling myself to first develop some skill using the old workhorse, actively avoiding spending money. There have been many occasions where i curse myself for not buying a jointer plane at least. But i'll stick it out as honestly, the lessons learnt are worth it Its like when my dad taught me to hold my cricket bat properly by taking away the bat and ball and giving me a sawn off broomstick and a golf ball instead, and telling me I could only use one hand, the top hand. Frustrating as fk, but boy oh boy, the returns were worth the aggravation.
  10. Well, as the saying goes: it's often the user, and not the tool. The majority of ppl don't need extravagantly priced tools to accomplish what they need doing. Cheap and cheerful also works. Paul Sellers has a few vids comparing cheap with expensive tools, and he proved the adage that prefaced this post. So let's not kid ourselves: R4 - R6k for one single item is extravagant, especially given the inflation due to forex alone. Unless you have a deeply vested interest in the hobby or the profession, or simply have a lot of spare cash, it's just not a good buy for the majority of ppl.
  11. If you want it at this price, then order one while there's stock available. There were three in stock at the Cape Town branch when I bought mine this past Sat. Toolcraft has some veritas stuff coming in within 3 weeks. But not sure if dual marking gauges form part of that consignment. With forex going for woopsie, R800 might be a the best you can do for a while, and it compares very, very well to overseas pricing
  12. FYI, recently purchase a veritas dual marking gauge from hardware center. Half the price quoted by Tools4wood, and Toolcraft doesn't have stock yet. R800 is a bargain. Pity it they didn't have stock of the shaft clamp. Even bigger pity that Veritas doesn't add to the package.
  13. french oak bathroom vanity
  14. was hoping the collective wisdom would help with identifying suitable soap. But i was going to trawl through wellness warehouse's collection of organic, au naturale soaps as a starter
  15. oh yes, the other thing i wanted to ask the forum: soap finishing of timber. What soaps do you use?
  16. any particular profile? Agreed on the contrast. I found that out by accident using the dowel rods. One was meranti the other was pine. I found that placing the darker one at the back, worked best for me.
  17. Rocketman, (sorry for teh trumpism!) Rocket-boy: thanks for inadvertently reminding me what i wanted to ask the forum: What type of winding sticks to y'all use? I don't have a dedicated set, but i'm beginning to think i should. atm, i use whatever 'works', pencils if the stock is narrow enough. Long wooden rods for the wider stuff.
  18. The first ep grabbed me enough to looking forward to where they are going with it.
  19. great job! wrt the portion above, Was it just a lot of material that needed removing, or did the timber seen to twist after a day or few. wrt the latter situation, I've had a similar issue with a rather thick plank that I was trying to square up. I left it square, but a few days later, and it was out, badly. What you said reminded me of something I read yesterday: perhaps the wood was still acclimatising to its new environment?
  20. Manhunt Unabomber is pretty damn good! Even better is how good that UNABOMber manifesto really is. Some would like to say the guy is a nut and everything of him is equally crazy. The thing is, that latter perspective is a strawman's argument, as the manifesto's perspectives (largely, but not all of it) of the effect of technology on the world, I find very cogent and persistently contemporary. This series feels like a better True Detective because it has a basis in reality, without coming across as a documentary. oh and Star Trek Discovery beamed into existence. Yummy #1.
  21. grand designs new zealand also opened up season 3. That view from the kitchen. omw But that she wants to do it all again??! there's something nutty going on there. wrt GD UK latest ep: the irish barn was really good, a lot of building for their money. that guy did well! Big little lies: i rather enjoyed that. Absolutely loved Witherspoons character, and felt Kidman's performance, while central, a bit wooden. surprised she won ahead of Witherspoon. but i'm splitting hairs: the show was definitely entertaining with many interesting characters. Skarsgard was did the creep-role some serious justice.
  22. you see the social media outrage around that statement of hers? lolmuch@ the world these days
  23. that table assumes the timber has been graded accordingly. I'll be honest, my gut feel is not giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling. That's not to say what Deanbean did is wrong. Just a niggling feeling. Deanbean: if you've done your due diligence, then please ignore me
  24. what's the span and spacing on those patio beams, and H x W dimensions?
