  1. i must say, a good local delivery experience is very, very, very rare for me. Whether its from Jhb or around the corner from CWC, i've had, compared to stuff shipped from CRC, an utterly pathetic experience in general. I dread going local tbh. Seems cape town branches of local courier companies just don't seem to give a toss about professionalism.
  2. season 3 of TF??? oh yes! man, that was such a good show! Yummy Scully..
  3. agreed on all accounts, and thanks for reminding about DS! I really enjoyed that show. wrt 24 Legacy: i really think they've managed to re-create the suspense and anxiety of previous shows. Despite the lack of Jack. It is without a doubt formulaic, but it works for me. So i'm hording those because lets face it: the best way to watch 24 is to binge it. I recall my first binge experience being 24 way back in the day. I couldn't believe that a friend of mine spent the best part of a weekend drilling through season 1 of 24. he said i should try it. He warned me of its addicting nature. I scoffed at the idea. oh, how naive i was back then
  4. i've been enjoying the series thoroughly. great way to entertain the historian in me and wow! does Abigail Spencer pull off period clothing. She's a very attractive woman that one.
  5. Fox Proframe: (official release 04 March, but someone spilled the beans )
  6. hit this link with the USPS tracking number. The local tracking number should be displayed as well, *IF* the USPS number was registered by EMS/SAPO. All my USPS shipped items were delivered via EMS or to my local PO, so it should show up on their tracking service once its registered. Some times, most times, you just have to wait till it registers :/
  7. excellent scope of researched info there. great article. thanks!
  8. The sobering reality of burns, is that there is no such thing as quick. It's a very long, very painful process. Being burnt is one ordeal, surviving it another, and living with it is the longest one of all. When a colleague of mine was burnt when lighter fluid container exploded in his hand, it got me to read up about what it takes to survive and live with burns injuries. It's genuinely depressing reading. Localized burning is bad enough, it's even worse when its widespread across multiple appendages as mobility is badly impacted. Without knowing the extent of his injuries, i can only hope as well, that its such he is on a path to a quicker recovery. I'm still very shocked that this has happened to our Barry.
  9. as I see it, a longer travel has an associated wider tolerance on any setting within each travel zone: beginning, mid and ending travel zones. for short travel suspension, those tolerances are tighter, and the sweet spot is thus smaller making ideal setup fidgety Air suspension by its nature can be tricky, so trying to find a rider preferred, track-matched balance between various settings on air-suspension in a short travel package could be pretty much blackmagic when going on a touchyfeely approach. If shockwiz has very tight measurement tolerances, and a solid basis for recommendation, then it could take a huge amount of guesswork out of short travel suspension travel. I don't think any XCO rider would want a sloppy suspension setup. there was benefit to be had moving from rigid to suspended setups. To have all that effort wasted in a highspeed lapped race would be a rather silly approach, and negative the very value of suspension that you initially sort. Ultimately, what I, and I think DlC is saying, is that there's likely benefit for all manner of suspension travel.
  10. was thinking the same thing, especially wrt XCO.
  11. There's an example calculation in the very first post.
  12. at the rate of breakdown currently being experienced, i think they going to look that way for quite some time :/ But thanks for the wellwish. i really could do with a break (most unfortunate turn of phrase in this context.. )
  13. get well prezzie to self
  14. No windshields/closed cockpits yet?
  15. woa, this is horrific! I wish the old guy great strength and fortitude during what could be a very tough recovery.
  16. penetrative tests or blunt force impact testing? Shattered knee was from riding knee pads that at best, offered protection from abrasive damage, not blunt force impact protection. That is, there was apparently no hard shell within the knee pad. Also, let's not brush everything under the 'numerous variables' rug, because that creates the false impression that protection against probable injury is unachievable because the type of probable impact is nebulous. That is just not true for many impact types. Why bother with helmets then? So (not directed at you Headshot. I'm very sure you are well aware of the following) what are plausible modes of damage that cyclists typically need protection against: abrasionblunt force impact sharp force/penetrative impacttorsional and/or bending momentspoints 2 and 3 IMO, can be split rather roughly into primary and secondary impacts. Primary being the initial contact with whatever, and secondary impacts could be all subsequent contact with the whatever. The abrasive protection depends on the toughness of the fabric used. Most manufacturers use a weave including kevlar. Abrasive protection also hinges upon the ability of the pads to remain in place during a crash, and that in turn depends upon method of attachment. Blunt force impact protection aims to spread the load or increase the time of deceleration. The latter is where G-form, and foam layers come in. Hard shells also help spread the load impact thus reducing the pressure of the impact force. hard shells act to mostly to mitigate sharp force impacts. I'm not sure how well g-form, D30 other such materials that harden upon impact, deal with penetrative loads. The last form of impact damage is best mitigated by heavily engineered products like MX-type knee braces. They incorporate levers and mechanisms that limit probably bending and torsion loads that lead to dislocations and/or ligament damage. Ironically, most wear these types of braces AFTER they've blown their ligaments (guilty as charged) While not exhaustive, if one keeps these 4 main impact loads in mind, and your desired set of pads largely covers at least the first three types of impact, or all of those bases to various degrees, you are well set in terms of reasonable levels of protection. No one, anyway, is ever going to claim complete protection.
  17. i think the true value of shockwiz resides within the software and the thousands of existing data points the device seems to rely on to make recommendations on changes to the shock&fork settings. the hardware in comparison, is childsplay.
  18. any suggestions for a cheap/not-too-pricey table saw with accuracy/consistency of cut good enough for cabinetry? need for accuracy https://youtu.be/u5F9TiHF2tc?t=6m30s
  19. i fell asleep watching that pilot last night. Will have to watch the rest of it when less tired. But i found it mildly interesting at best. Hopefully it lights up as it goes along. Your highly enthusiastic writeup makes me think Legion is the Sylar of the marvelverse. Hopefully legion doesn't become the heap of stink Heroes became.
  20. Agreed EG: we are utterly spoilt for choice when it comes to quality frames with proven suspension kinematics these days. Now if only Zumatjie can shut his trap for long enough so the rand can improve!
  21. i dig that handle in the toptube. I have to echo Bizkit's sentiment regarding those sharp creases: flippin sweet!
  22. bicycle components, so zero custom duties. Just AVT and VAT applies.
  23. :D if you need votes to get into a commentating job, you've got mine
  24. watchu mean it didn't cut it? what did you have for breakfast at prior to SCT? Dates and nuts, biltong, baked potatoes, date and nut bars (racefood makes some super yummy bars). all good on the bike chow.
