  1. Agree with Patch. Rate the seller. Done.
  2. Yoh Bloukrans. Same experience on that section of trail. Really enjoyed and everyone seemed pretty friendly. Made sure I slow down and even stopped to the doggy gangs amazement. AND that portage is total madness to attempt.
  3. Interesting. Not selling anything to any "foreigner" (from) France. Eish. Have developed a dislike to "Gmail" and treat such account immediately with a . They can create countless email addresses and still remain untraceable in cyberspace.
  4. If you into running as well, then you must give consideration to getting the HR Run unit (little white running man on it) to get stride, cadence and other running dynamics. If only cycling, then any normal Garmin ant+ HR unit will work. Agree with seven, plenty appear here so be patient. Can be a bit costly though.
  5. Glad you guys are splitting some information regarding the wrist HR unit. Have the normal Fenix 3 with HR strap and happy with it but ... always thinking of the next gadget. I only use the watch for running and love the run dynamics. Will stop thinking about it. Use a normal Edge 500 for cycling.
  6. Kudos man. After all the years of watching you at all the worlds marathons, ... GREAT NEWS. So chuffed.
  7. Only in the High End Pro world would such gains make any "meaningful" difference. But ... just watch this space. Every Tom, Dick and Harriett will soon sport the same. If it's out there, we buy.
  8. Hoorah. Here we go. Going for time this year, so looking forward to taking a deserved force break on that 400-500m gravel section. LOL
  9. Been using the Polar RS800 and for years knew nothing else neither needed anything else. Then along came Windows 10 and the world cave caving in. No iR port support and thus useless as I cannot download any data. Also always been a bit aggro with Polar for only having a service center in Gauteng. Turnaround time is not bad but the drag of every time having to post up North was irritating. Got me the Edge 500 and the world came together again. Need to upgrade to cater for my running, but won't go back to Polar. The Garmin failed me once, and seemed terminal but seems to have 9 lives and is going strong again. Old technology or not, by stopping to support their loyal following without even an alternative offer is just poor service.
  10. Stoking gents. Hoza Africa. Agree, the excellent foundation put in under the MTN flag has brought results. Carry forth DD. Kudos to the DR management team.
  11. Thanx cat-i for posting this link. This is not the first such expose I've read regarding athlete's experience on LCHF (read accounts from iron man athletes) but is the first in-depth encounter from someone who has also achieved sporting success at a competitive level. After reading this guys experience with LCHF, it just makes my commitment to remain on this eating plan AND increasing my exercise regimen all the more. No intention to win anything, but always trying to beat myself. It also allows me the comfort to know that guys like Marius are just ... sigh.
  12. Thanx for the slides jcza. Very insightful read.
  13. Marketing hype is generally done by those trying to make millions out of the masses. Interestingly enough, the only millions here is that made by those propagating your view. Just saying. You sound like one frustrated puppy.
  14. Done all my training for DC on just water and no other liquid supplement. No issues. Ate no carbs throughout training and again, no lack of energy. Hmmmn ... Wonder how much money I saved? Eish - pockets still empty though.
  15. Was worried about doing DC on LCHF, but pushed through and ate only my LCHF breakfast and again for lunch at the first feeding stop. In between had droe wors as suggested by someone way earlier and felt great all the way. Slow time for other reasons, but had no energy deficiency throughout. Very glad I stuck to my eating plan and it all worked a charm.
  16. If not too long you should have energy to spare. Enjoy the run.
  17. Interesting. Have not experienced cramping on my Banting lifestyle. Cramped once at the beginning when mileage was still low. Attended a Prof Nokes talk on the fallacy of the billion $$ energy drink industry and at Q&A time got in a question related to what causes cramps and does energy drinks not assist to prevent this. His short answer was "get the muscles conditioned to the longer sessions". One of the reasons I have been drinking plenty water only on rides and so far so good. Have found no ill effects of not having coloured water in my bottle.
  18. Oh yes, I carry some dates with me. Drink nothing other than water more as I have not found anything suitable yet.
  19. Thanx for the feedback. Will try the droe wors. Might be easier that the biltong I'm eating at the moment. Find biltong ok but a bit mission to swallow. BUT ... must admit I have not run out of energy on the 140>150k drags we've done. I do ride with some nut snacks. Thanx Was planning, if no other info come to hand, having my nuts/DF Yogurd/D Cream and berries I normally have for breakfast at the half stop too. Find that breakfast don't sit too difficult and normally ride immediately after without any bloated feeling. So thanx again. Feeling better every week and looking forward to the DC.
  20. Oh oh. Don't start the USN thread again. There has been some lank comments on that subject and most not too complimentary.
  21. Been hiking since way back in 1985. At first was paranoid about walking into one of these things. Contemplated buying and carrying anti-venom kits and the like and then decided to read some good books on the subject to make a decision. All the literature indicated snakes will more than likely avoid you and when you do happen to see one, you have already passed by a few hundred without knowing. Anyway, all anti-venom only last a short while and if applied in ignorance, you more likely to kill the patient than the actual venom. Needless to say have kept on hiking with no anti-venom. Seen a handful of snakes (most in the Puff Adder family as they so slow and love laying in the sun) in all that time and never once had any serious encounters. Lucky? Don't think so. Dangerous encounters are extremely rare. On my bike road past a thick black snake on Ocean View Drive and recognised it as a harmless Mole Snake. Then went past another I did not recognise in Richwood. Look, admire and be on your way.
  22. Nice pics too.
  23. Wow. Sounds like an absolutely exhilarating experience. Been to Lesotho 3 times but was before I bought my MTB. Was more of a road runner in those days and the locals looked at me real funny running through villages in the early morning on those cold frisky mornings. Beautiful country with beautiful people.
  24. Been reading this thread and found the content most interesting. Been doing LCHF for a year now and feel great about my weight loss and general health improvement. 19.5k's off and dropping. Looking for some info on endurance nutrition. I have committed to doing the 2015 DC and been training for longer rides a while now. I've found my energy levels on most rides up to 100k great with little to no eating on route except for a good breakfast before taking off. Have a concern about bonking when going further and longer. What advice have you guys got for stuff you can either carry with (light) and/or purchase en route. Appreciate getting same advice from the wealth of experience around here.
