500 does not have mapping function (base or card) and an some workout/training features of the 800. The only thing better than the 800 is the battery life and weight.

A lot of sportmen from other diciplines such as cricket and rugby do it, usually to highlight some or other cause they are doing but sometimes for themselves. Why should we deny a cyclist to ride a dicipline he has excelled in not to do it for his cause/personal use.
