  1. I dont think these are bad at all I like the geometry it looks really laid back.
  2. Hi this sounds like a great idea id like to help out aswell especially since Ive been riding alot in Tokai lately. I think if mountainbikers do the repairs then we will get better trails in the end, and also some more respect for the trails. I also think that its about being an XC'er or DH'er I think it all comes down to being responsible when riding and staying off the brakes for a while! On the other hand I like to see people trying out new things so maybe some skills clinics are in order that actually teach people how to ride singletrack properly? You cant really blame a beginner for skidding to much when they're still in the learning phase trying to figure out on their own what to do since thats where everyone started right?
  3. I managed to fix a hole in my tyre’s bead last year with superglue and a tube patch 5 months later its still working 100%. Its a non-tubeless Kenda nevegal 2.1 that I run tubeless. The tyre was too new just to throw away. So superglue definitely works with MTB tyres many other glues gets dissolved by the Stans.
  4. Yep thats true dont go there especially on Saturdays or Sundays. I think the description used to fit a couple of years ago when there were still jumps and a nice, although very short DH section however there are alot more users of the area now and the place has been groomed more for XC. Nice place for beginners to learn how to ride though.
  5. Haha thats hillarious OK now i guess I need to say something usefull aswell. i'm much too lazy to remove the cogs everytime I want to clean them,so I bought a little brush set thats very easy to use. You should be able to get it from a car store like Midas or even from Shoprite's little car care section. Basically it looks like a toothbrush but the hairs are much longer and stronger. Its makes it possible to scrub between the cogs easily without removing anything. Interesting to read that Sram cassettes can be taken completely apart since im sure thats not the case with shimano cassettes, since the cogs are stamped onto the spindle with pins.
  6. How much exactly we talking of here
  7. Try using superglue when you need to patch something that your sealant wont seal. Doesnt seem to disolve like other glues. I managed to fix a hole in my tubeless tyre bead by sticking a longish patch on the inside with superglue and 5 months later its still holding up. I use stans sealant. Edit: Btw nice tip about putting sealant in the tube, Im going to give this another shot I think when I tried this previously with a non-removable valve core tube I didnt pull the valve core inside far enough.
  8. I think the only way to go forward from here is if somehow we can get more group rides going, with people that want to do the same kind of riding. This I say especially when I think about open areas like Eden, Coetzenburg, Table mountain, Majik forest etc. Unfortunately there are just days when you want to ride but your friends are not able to make it, etc etc and then there needs to be some other way to still continue riding. If there is some kind of system that helps us to ride more in groups of 4 riders plus then this will go a long way to ride more safely. It will also be easier to confront suspicious people that just seem to hang around aimlessly in the forest. Descent bike clubs would go a long way to get this kind of thing going. As cyclists we need to find some kind of solution for this thing ourselves because nothing will happen from the government's side.
  9. This is so screwed up man, I hope the guy recovers soon and starts riding again a bit later. The sad thing is unfortunately I don't really know how we can prevent this from happening again.
  10. Sheesh this is bad news for me aswell as I used to ride there alot often by myself. Also we do some nightriding there now and then in groups. So on which day exactly did this attack happen? Unfortunately its very hard not to ride on your own sometimes especially when doing freeriding etc. Maybe its better to move to Jonkershoek and practice there.
  11. OK that sounds like a really nice track Im probably going to be there. Heck if I only crash once then that would be ok, but I agree crashing multiple times is not so good Nice that some tech trails are developed in the Durbanville area the local riders should try and support these efforts.
  12. Hey man this sounds cool! Im interested sounds like you have seen the course can you perhaps give us some description/pics of the course while we wait for the video? Specifically Id like to know whether the track is focused on big drops / gaps (with chicken runs?) or whether it is more of a fast track with the focus on speed and berms etc. Also is this a completely new trail or has parts of the old course been incorporated into it?
  13. I also use flat shoes have been using clipless for about 2 years but came back to flats because I find then just so much superior to the clipless system. The benefit of being able to pull up when using clips is actually minimal. Almost all bike shops unfortunately is geared exclusively towards the XC race crowd and this is a frustration that you gonna encounter still LOTS of times Cityrock can do a special order for you and import just about any FiveTen shoe it seems, they told me they're ordering their next shipment in Mid-November so maybe if you quick you can still get on the bus? Anyway I was pretty happy with the Impact Lows I put on I think they are superior to the Freeriders or the other shoes so I went with that. They're just so much more durable and I think its going to last for a long time. You might want to go for the high version for ankle protection or get something like the Carver shoe thats kindof the same but has an additional flap that goes over the laces, I thought thats overkill though. Fitting the shoes beforehand is essential because you get half sizes and wanna makes sure that your feet dont move around too much. Yeah man rather wait a while and go with FiveTen theyre way better than anything else one thing thats not mentioned often is how super durable the soles are you wont get grooves in your shoes from the pedal pins like you get with skate shoes I still havent seen ANY damage on my shoes and have been using them for a while now. My previous "BMX" shoes only lasted about 6 months.
  14. Lol I also got that mail my battery is still working 100% though but I think I need to start charging it in a fireproof container or something from now on! Would be great if they send us new batteries though Ill be keen to send my extensively used 1-year old battery back for a brand new one.
  15. Hi Johan Thanks for the very informative article it really made a lot of sense. I think I am going to try an oil based again and see if it works out for me. After reading it I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding the practice of cycling chains after a certain number of rides. I've heard people talking about this and claiming a big increase in the lifetime of the sprockets. What I am referring to here exactly is the following: A person buys for example a set of 3 new chains or use a set of 3 chains that are equally worn. He then installs one of these chains on his bike and do say about 4 rides. After the fourth ride he then removes the chain and replaces it with the next one in queue. This process is repeated and when its time to change the last chain in the set, the one that was used first is installed again. The reason for doing this is to try and have 3 chains that wear at a more or less equal pace. Therefore the sprockets also wear less than would have been the case if only one chain was used and replaced with a new chain when it reaches the end of its life but before it has gone too far. Is this a good way to increase the lifetime of the sprockets further or would the effect be negligible? I dont think it would take much effort to follow such a system if the chain is removed in any case for cleaning.
  16. Hey man I'd like to check out the trail at some stage, the photo's looks really cool. Just didnt find the time to do so yet. Can you perhaps provide us with some directions of exactly where on signal hill the trail starts? Keep up the good work
  17. Yeah that Sir Lowry's track is super I wish I could do it but I realized today that I am going to be in Gansbaai over that weekend. At least I'm going to have enough time now to get some proper gear. BTW the Jonkershoek race was awesome. My first dh race, I only did the practice session but what a blast, more people should start doing these events.
  18. Hi I was one of the guys riding the first 2/3 if the track yesterday and I thought it was awesome and very doable even on a hardtail if you ride around all the serious stuff. Wasnt going very fast since I dont know the trail very well but I would really like to give it another shot soon. Especially the little jumps/drops after the road gap looks like alot of fun. So I'm thinking of doing the practice session on Saturday! But I need some new flat pedals since mine is worn down. So if anyone have suggestions of shops that sells some cool flat pedals with nice replaceable pins please let me know thanks!
  19. Hi guys I've been thinking of using a parallel setup for my light as well (1xMCE 2xXPE, 2 of the MCE dies in serie with 1 XPE @ 700ma through each branch) and came to the conclusion that it might be a good idea to rather use 1 seperate driver for each branch. The reason for this is that if one of the branches goes dead due to bad connection / busted component, then you suddenly now have 1400ma (in my case) through the other branch and then the other LEDS also goes BOOM!!!
